Curiosity Stream HD + Nebula Streaming Subscription for 12 Months - US$16.26 (~A$23)

1000
JOESCOTT

Updated to include the slight price increase on the offer from $12.75usd to $16.26usd inc tax

Hi All, came across this from a YouTuber I follow.

You get access to Curiosity Stream which has a great collection of documentaries as well as access to Nebula (basically an alternative to YouTube which also has some great content and bunch of originally produced content)

You can get both for 12 months for USD$16.26 incTax, around AUD$23

Nebula is normally USD$5 per month, and curiosity stream is USD$19.99 + Tax per year (basically, you get Nebula at $0 for 12 months)

To see the content you can expect from Curiosity Stream https://curiositystream.com/categories

IMO a good deal if you are into documentaries.

Bargain, especially considering it’s cheaper than nebula alone last time I checked

  • Was it Todd in the Shadows?

  • The only bugga is the 4k subs are $us42/yr.

Get yourself an nvidia shield and use the AI upscaling, does a wonderful job 👍

      • +1

you gave me a reason to buy nvidia shield. Thank you.

Or just get old to the point where you can't see the difference :P

Back on topic, I've been paying for Curiosity stream for a couple of years. it's one of those things I don't use a lot at all, but definitely $19 / year worth

Joe Scott's videos are great. Interesting stuff.

Reminder that you can cancel immediately to avoid paying full price next year 🙂

    • Wish I did this. Got charged full price the other day

  • Definitely wasnt Lankybox

Curiosity and Nebula can be had for $11.59 USD for the first year with the code JETLAG

    • +2

Plus taxes is $12.75 USD like the OP says

Have a look at your local libraries' streaming services. Some of them have a subscription you can 'borrow' to things like CuriosityStream/Nebula/etc.

    • Any Australian library which has this please?

      • +1

Check with your state library for starters, or your local library if they have access to Hoopla. Wollongong Libraries have it through Hoopla.

CuriosityStream, started by Discovery channel founder, with $300M in VC funding.

This is a good price but best deal was when they offered lifetime subscriptions awhile back ;)

  • Cheaper than pw/login resellers…good deal!

Thanks for the reminder to cancel my plan. Now to find a YT/Nebula creator code who I want to support.
Can't stand Joe Scott's vocal tone!

    • The code johnnyharris should also work :). Great channel

      • +6

        I've gone with STRANGEPARTS

        • Are you locked into the channel or do you have access to all of them?

          • @bargainshooter: You get the full subscription, the channel just gets a cut (I think)

        • I've gone with STRANGERSPANTS.

          There's no such channel, yet.

I used Steven bridges link for 11.59USD. I love his series on nebula called beating the odds. He travels through the US playing blackjack using card counting to gain an edge on the casinos.

      • That's why I signed up too. Great series.

    • Try MUSTARD

How can Nebula be an alternative to YT when you have to pay for it?

    • +4

      I pay for Youtube too!

Nebula has no ads at all, not even mid roll "A part of this video is sponsored by" ads, unlike Youtube Premium.

      • +1

Ok thanks. I guess the ads pay for the “free subscription” to YT.

      • +3

not even mid roll "A part of this video is sponsored by" ads, unlike Youtube Premium.

        SponsorBlock says hello :)

  • Price is showing $11.59 for me.

    • Showed that for me until I did Apple Pay. Must have added on taxes

I signed up (thanks OP), but how do I get Nebula now? Their FAQ states that an email will be send shortly after signup that contains the Nebula sign up details, it i haven’t received that yet. Anyone else got theirs?

    • Just send an email to nebula support with screenshots of payment.

  • Just signed up.. where do I get the details to Nebula. Says it should come through an email but yet to receive anything?

    • I got the email almost instantly. Check your junk?

  • Found a dud link on their site;

    Well, this is awkward.
This page has fallen into a black hole and is no longer available.

  • Does it work with renewals?

    • it appears not.

    • I was in the same boat, but emailed [email protected] and asked to get the nebula bundle added to my CS subscription (this was a few years ago though)

  • You save a lot more money if you just select the STANDARD HD ANNUAL instead of the 4K one with all the added things you may not even have any interest in.

  • Some info for those interested:

How do the creators get paid?

Nebula profit (the money remaining after service costs not inclusive of engineering) is divided 50/50 between the creators and Standard. The creator pool is paid out based on watch time.

    Who owns Nebula?

Nebula is owned and operated by Standard and the creators, with Curiosity Inc (CuriosityStream) holding a minority stake and a board seat. There are no plans to bring in additional investment.

How do you find new creators?

Nebula is not intended as a YouTube competitor, so we’re not actively working toward an open platform. Our content and our roster are carefully curated by the creators to make sure that anything shown here is something we can all stand behind.

I've been a subscriber for a couple of years now, I thought it was good value for money to see some documentaries without ads. My favourite show so far was Hot Roads, The Worlds Most Dangerous Roads https://curiositystream.com/video/4097 about precarious journeys people have to make to move goods through remote areas, it was very fascinating and memorable for me.

  • +3

4 years and still waiting for console apps for Nebula :(

  • Great Deal and happy with interesting contents.
For $19.00 a year it's good value and can't go wrong…especially cancelling beforehand.
Also got Nebula included without any hic-ups.
Can even stream to IPhone/Ipad with no issues.
    Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP! Used LegalEagle's code (code I think is legal. But just find a Youtube vid of his with a link).

    • +2

Code is "legaleagle" but there's no point, it is the same level of discount. Dollar a dozen offering the same discount.

Maybe support an Australian content creator with the "featurehistory" code.

  • How does this service compare with Magellan?

    • Wow, atm it's less than $100 aud for 2 years of access. I was never even aware such a streaming service existed. Thanks for mentioning it.

  • +2

Bought a sub last year. Will get another. 4K sub wasn't necessary/worth it in my opinion.

Its easy to forget you have this subscription too

    • So you would say just get the CS sub in HD and forget about the other extras with the 4k offer?

      • +1

Yes. There isn't a huge UHD offering and the HD content is by far the standard in the documentary genre. I enjoy Curiosity Stream to supplement YouTube. Unless youre an absolute doco addict then I think the HD tier is the best value for most people.

        • What is your opinion of the extra add-ons when going with the 4K subscription?

I was hoping you'd say the added extras weren't worth it.

  • How can I watch this on my Samsung TV? I have an iPad and iPhone but the iOS apps have pretty bad reviews in the app store. Those of you already subscribed, how do you watch? Thanks in advance.

    • I have a Samsung TV, it's a few years old …
It doesn't pickup Curiosity or Nebula app as you need to download it "as an app" or stream it via Internet.
I used a Google Chromecast and/or also an Amazon Fire stick (both pretty cheap) and downloaded the app to these devices.
Works very well and just open Curiosity App via using Chromecast or Amazon Fire device.
P.S…I have Apple TV but it didn't work properly ??!

      • Thanks for the reply. That's annoying about the Apple TV because I was going to upgrade my Apple TV3 to the latest 4K version and use it to stream live TV and replace my ageing Topfield PVR. I just subscribed to Curiosity Stream and watched the first episode of Planet Insect (which as brilliant), Airplaying from my iPad to the TV, and it was enough for me to know that I don't want to use the iPad to play TV programmes. Plus, the Curiosity Stream iOS app is buggy (kept stopping every few minutes and would only restart from the beginning). So if the Apple TV app is also buggy it looks like I need a different device.

It’s annoying that the CC with GTV doesn't support Apple TV (the streaming service). I can watch it with the Samsung app but it's a problem for me because I stream audio to my Cochlear implant from the TV’s digital audio out and the volume control and mute work on the TV’s amplifier, and have no affect on the digital audio out, so I can't adjust the volume or mute when I’m watching the TV directly, rather than from a connected device.

Does the Fire Stick support all the local TV channels? Does it aggregate like the CC with GTV does?

        Thanks again.

      • P.S…I have Apple TV but it didn't work properly ??!

Just out of curiosity, what issues did you face on the Apple TV, Both curiosity app and nebula app have been working perfectly for me on the current gen Apple TV 4K.

  • Where do you put in the coupon code JOESCOTT ?

    • +1

Just click the picture to the right of this deal, you don't need to put the code anywhere. Then look at the URL itself when you land at CS… there are all variations of codes for people who have referral deals with CS. See other posts people have made here, including one of mine.

        Thank you

Sooooo um. The base plan for $11.59USD doesn't actually include Nebula. It's just Curiosity Stream. As it says on the sign up page. Need to get the Premium Plan for $40.59USD in order to get Nebula as well. Might want to update the post.

    • It still works, I just did a dummy checkout, the screenshot below ;)

      https://imgur.com/709WGnF

    • +1

It does if you subscribe via a Nebula Creator Discount Code.
If you just subscribe to Curiosity Stream using their seasonal Discount Code , then yeah, it doesn't include Nebula. (stupid, but that's the way they run the offer).

But you need to create a Nebula account as well. (Check your inbox)

  • This this still work?

Im getting USD 29.59/year with discount?
