best purchase of 2022. dries out the room when it floods/rains, and cools the room down during summer

Historically, does Amazon price match Costco deals?

I would pay the $26 extra and still get the 4K as these get passed around as soon as someone gets a new smart TV with downloadable apps.

    • Good enough when travelling to plug into hotel TV. Sometimes this works well when internet at hotel is slow…

      .

    • PB at OW?

      • They won’t PB Costco due to the membership requirement - it’s $48 from Amazon, save the hassle and pay the extra $5 I reckon

    • Firestick is $49 at Amazon at the moment. 4k too

    • Any benefits this has over fire tv? I already have some google nest devices (hub, minis) at home, but using fire tv 4k presently. Think whether I should make the switch.

  • When is Air Circulator more useful than a fan? Large rooms?

    • Ceiling fan or floor fan you mean?

    • +2

It's designed to be pointed at an upper corner in the room and the air gets bounced around the room to literally circulate air around and reduce need for A/C, esp at night when sleeping in summer.

You can also just point it at yourself if you wish and get a large airflow of breeze too.

      • Hi @Hybroid how loud is the fan when you point into an upper corner? Would you be able to hear the TV or have a conversation without turning up the volume or raising your voice? Thanks in advance

        • +1

Hello, at full chat speed 4 it's quite loud indeed but not to the point that it's uncomfortable during the day (wouldn't sleep on that setting though).

At normal speed 1 or 2, it's perfectly fine for me for sleeping and certainly don't need to raise volume.

I open a window and face the back of the 660 away from window, helps bring in outside air better into the house.

Also I face it upwards to a corner of room, makes the room and house feel like there is a breeze throughout. Also helps distribute air con air.

      • Yeah I've done that too. My room insulates heat extremely well so even if it is cool outside at night it can be hot inside. Honestly I'd rather just use the AC though.

        • +1

Agreed - a small split system for the bedroom is wonderful.

What we also use though is an extractor fan such as you would get in a bathroom - that combined with an open window really pulls a lot of cooler air in from outside and it minimises the need for A/C for several months. It makes a massive difference after dark as our bedrooms face W and get really hot during the day.

        • An air circulator works great with AC, if you place it on the ground opposite the AC vent/unit, and aim it directly at said vent/unut, it helps evenly distribute the cold air around the room much more efficiently than the AC unit is capable of alone.

Terrible if dont have aircon, fan better

Weve got old place with tall ceiling with tile direct to ceiling so is an oven

      Vornado just circulates hot air.

      Whereas fan at least cools.

      Also vornado loud af

        How does a fan cool?

  • +2

I'd get the direct current version so you can fine tune the speed setting and also have it work on a smart plug.

  • I have 2 of the Vornado 633DC DC fans. I think they're truly the best fans on the market. Sometimes on sale at Amazon for around this price.

    • +1

Sadly this is not the DC version.

Hopefully there will be a sale on 633DC soon.

  • electricity consumption, I measured them myself (I have one 660 old version and this version purchased from Costco a few weeks ago)
    old version -
    V-42w / IV-42w / III-35w / II-35w / I-35w
    this Costco version -
    V-49w / IV-49w / III-39w / II-39w / I-39w

old version wins (both old version and this version delivers same air as I can feel)

    • imo these days, many new versions are not as good as old versions.

  • IIRC DC version works with smart plug

  • Costco casuarina had this in stick for $70.

I bought the vornado in store for $149, but am thinking about the woozoo as well

    • woozoo

      L 22 cm x W 20.29 cm x H 28.93 cm

      vornado

      L 29.8 cm x W 34.3 cm x H 38 cm

The Vornado is bigger. Unless it will just be used for a small bedroom, I would definitely get the Vornado. The Vornado also has a good resell value.

Wish JB Hi-Fi and Amazon can do price match tomorrow

  • +1

JB agreed to lower to $160 for the vornado 660 for me. Minus perks and discounted gift cards ends up being lower
