    • It doesn’t exchange air with the outside though. So it filters air in a room (i.e. for every m3 of unfiltered air it sucks in, it pumps out an m3 of filtered air, rather than creating a vacuum that sucks in unfiltered air from outside). After a few cycles it gradually replaces the air in a room with filtered air.

This was the Choice recommended air filter a few years ago.

Of course it does. No house is air tight, especially so when the doors are open. The negative pressure from the purifier will draw air in.

        • There's no negative pressure though. The filtered air is just being circulated inside the room. If the user is not an ignoramus, they will close the doors and windows while using the filter. There will be insignificant amounts of air circulating through the door cracks etc, but that's why the filter is designed to be constantly running.

            @Reggyscum:

            There's no negative pressure though.

The air that is drawn into the purifier is under negative pressure. This is basic science 101.

            • @MuddyClear: So to your logic my laptops fans suck in air from outside my house? Gee that's a concern…

              • @camshandez: That will depend on the fan power, but unlikely for a laptop fan.

            • +2

@MuddyClear: You….you do know the purifier is exhausting air out of it at equal and opposite pressure…don't….don't you? It's a closed system.

Unless you think it's a magic air-sink and conservation of mass doesn't apply. And/or these units run the risk of eventually collapsing into an air-powered singularity, at which point, they'll be almost as dense as your opinion.

You are stating the obvious, which has no argument at all. Are you trying to say this somehow neutralises the negative pressure? No, otherwise there would be no air movement!

Now you’re sounding like a fool

Probably better to ask someone with allergies and/or asthama if its a product they'd pay for, turns out a lot of them do. :)

Wrong. I’ve had an air purifier for years and they’ve been a life saver whenever there’s bushfires or burn offs over summer. Keeps the air in the room clean.

I got the medium 60m2 one for 50% off with pollen voucher back in november thanks to ozbargain. Happy with it so far.

$424 at Samsung after loyalty voucher

    • How so ?

Loyalty voucher is $50 off. Doesnt that make it $449?

      • The loyalty voucher is 15% for air purifier, the newsletter code is $50

    • +1

Thank you for highlighting loyalty voucher. Bought one after obtaining the loyalty voucher through chat support. Hope this unit is good enough 😀

      • Do I just need to ask for voucher? As simple as that? Chat is closed atm so wanted to confirm.

    • I would not wish anyone the experience of buying directly from Samsung. My tv last year took nearly 9 weeks to arrive, I had 5 different delivery slots booked. Had to complain multiple times to them (when I could finally get hold of someone). Check out their ratings on productreview!

  • Thanks for the link OP!

Been waiting to buy an air purifier. Missed out on the Phillips 3000i offer back in September/October due to being scammed by some fake Amazon seller (yeah, my fault for not checking 3rd party seller status on Amazon).

This one being discounted heavily and super sized for my room needs, I am curious to see if these devices are as good as reported. House is dusty as hell due to being lazy assed.

BTW, I bought direct from Samsung due to free delivery and bonus points. Same price as Bing Lee but free delivery. I am a true OZ bargainer…

    • “House is dusty as hell due to being lazy assed.”

Pretty sure the manual should something along thr lines of:

. This appliance is not a substitute for proper ventilation, regular vacuum cleaning, or use of an extractor hood or fan while cooking.

      • Haha, you are right.

But that is the beauty of technology. I may suffocate only half as much with my new toy!

  • How much ozone does this produce? We’re having a baby, and apparently ozone is bad for them

    • No ozone this one as it has no ioniser.

    • Nu mă, nu mă iei

Samsung has it for the same price

    Two filters, costly upkeep

  • +2

I bought this during the black friday sales and have it sitting in my ~5mx4m study running 24/7 on the auto mode in the hope of reducing the hektik daily allergies. I have not sneezed a single time yet or had any allergies since this has been running.

  • This is a big baby… you know it’s there!

  • Thoughts on Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 4 Pro?

Any of these any good against diesel particulates?

  • The wireless on these can not be truly turned off, it defaults to on with power loss.
If you won't want the wireless though you can physically just disconnect the WiFi card internally via two screws.

Additionally, the filters are not 'smart' in any way, it just has a timer which starts when you turn the unit on, and will tell you to replace the filters when that timer hits x time.
You need to manually tell it you have changed the filters / reset the timer.

There's going to be gazillions of these around soon considering the gov bought one for every class+staff room in every school.

why an air purifier has to be this expensive. It's just a fan inside a body with a filter layer/column.

    • Rampant capitalism & consumerism.

  • Back to $499 @ TGG
