I'm still waiting on the GT-AXE16000 to be released out here

Any ASUS WiFi 6E routers. Not a single one has been released yet in Australia. At least on Amazon, I have been checking for a while. Other companies have released WiFi 6E routers, but not ASUS for Australia.

      • 6E is a bit of a dud, most jumping to wifi7

        • I wouldn't say dud depends on your use case

The 6Hz band is worth it if you're in contended 5Ghz space like an apartment block or city

If you're in the suburbs you're unlikely to ever need it plus are more likely to have ethernet cabled the main devices in a house anyway

          • @s3n: How many of your devices support 6e??
Is it something enabled via software updates??

            • @sn809: That's right it's only worth it if you can't cable and you have the use case to pay for new 6E devices

That doesn't make it a dud it makes it a trade off

They should have called it the spider and flipped it around

  • Similar specs to GT-AX6000 with the extra 5Ghz Band (NOT 6Ghz) but worse CPU 1.8Ghz vs 2.0Ghz

This not the Wifi 6E version which intros 6Ghz is GT-AXE11000

Latest firmware seems to be 386 officially and 388.1 via merlin so you don't get the 388.2 features yet

I initially upvoted but the firmware pretty makes this a poor deal so I revoked be careful :)

    I would say don't buy!

    • what are the new features in 388.2?

      • Mainly VPN fusion the main sell being native wireguard client and server connections being able to be applied to various devices and device groups

Paying $580 for a router without this kind of flexibility when you can get similar or better consistent performance with $150 (or blanket multiple devices $150 x 3) is not too sensible

Cannot see anything with 388.2 just yet

          https://rog.asus.com/networking/rog-rapture-gt-ax6000-model/…

          3.0.0.4.388.2

          1. Supported WireGuard VPN server and client.
          2. Supported VPN fusion. It can easily achieve VPN connection to network devices like Smart TV, Game consoles and without installing the VPN client software.

          Merlin will follow

Perhaps AX56U will get 388.2 which will be insane for $150!

AX11000 will get it just a matter of time but I wouldn't take a bet for $580 I'd rather wait until it does

          • @s3n: Oh right thanks for that!

        • I have a few Asuses, however, I'm not so sure about merlin, what is so special that it is better to wait than safe money?

          • @Deal Or-No Deal: The different models each have their own quirks and differences with chipsets etc.

AX11000 is technically an older model than AX6000

There's no guarantee it'll get an official firmware update but the new features could be supported in Merlin in the future, again no guarantee

Only AX6000 was marketed with such extra features

It's also $551 on their eBay store with PLUSDEC1 code. eBay plus required ($4.99 for 1 month if you don't have it).

Yeah had this and returned it. Had some issues with IoT devices but largely it just isn’t worth it without the inclusion of wifi 6 (imo). The wifi is good but for the same price I could put up 3x AX3000 wifi 6 access points or 6(!!!) AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 access points.

Which I did and now have flawless coverage through the house and max out almost every device. Limited by my 1Gbps switch right now anyways.

    • It has wifi 6, did u want 6e??

  • I'm waiting on the GT-AX11000 Pro
