Food Envy Tiramisu or Chocolate Truffle Dessert 500g $4.49 Each (Save 50c) @ ALDI

420

Not much of a discount, but any price off these is a bargain for the tiramisu. The ingredients, taste and quality are amazing for the price.

I've probably tried 5-10 varieties over the years including authentic fresh (2day settling) calabrian, plus made 3 or 4 recipe versions myself in the past, but this is definitely up there on the list.

"Woolies $9, Yalla $17". Isn't it ridiculous how much money these company try to make? Thanks OP!

    • Yeah agreed. When you try to make it yourself, its tempting to settle for the price as it is quite a process, but can't justify spending that big!

      • And it is even more delicious! :)

    • +1

Yalla was disgusting. I can't remember if it was a tiramisu or something else but they use cream cheese or some other odd cheeses in there.

      • i agree with you both, i think aldi is the nicest and yalla was filthy (despite me eating just about anything)

    Godly tiramisu

    • +1

I found it to be terrible. Unless they've changed in the last 8 years?

      • +3

No, still terrible. We tried recently based on positive reviews.

        • a bit harsh, the biscuit is just a bit too wet but in something store bought that is pretty unavoidable

      • +1

        Different tastes

        • I must be too used to home made. I felt the aldi one wasn't creamy enough.

  • I’ve found the $9 coles one to have a thicker cream and better brandy substitute, all in all lending itself to a much richer and deeper taste.
Of course the Aldi ones better value but the Coles one does taste better for sure

    • Thanks, need to try!

try the costco one and you will love it

    • i thought the costco one was terrible. the "lady finger" part was barely soaked in any cofffee.

Not such a thing as Calabrian tiramisu.
    Please explain.
Having said that this thing isn’t bad for the price, at all. Unhealthy AF but

    • Generations passed down italian recipe, from calabria, Italy.

      • It was only first invented in the 60s!

        • That's 60 years ago. Their recipe is from their local area. Its certainly a lot thicker than this version, but similar sweetness.

      • Still no substantiation
        Tiramisu is from Veneto
Never ever heard of a tiramisu calabrese
Traditions on recipes in Italy are pretty rigorous
You do not change recipes full stop even more so in pastry bakery

        • So i'd have to make some veneto-ian friends for the real thing??

  • used to be my favourite dessert, looking forward to trying some

    • What is your favorite dessert now?

  • Where is this usually stocked (fridge or freezer section)?

    • Fridge

      • Thanks team. Xmas desert sorted

        • Living in Central Australia?

          • @kiitos: Nice pickup… dessert

I’ve heard that the checkout lines at Aldi can be quite long, but couldn’t you wait until you got home?!

        • Good Different :)

  • I'm quite a fan of this tiramisu but maybe it's my peasant tastebuds hehe

    • +1

      Let them eat cake!

    • +1

I have Italian relatives who thought this was home made. So no, your tastebuds are correct.

  • Coles frozen $5 (haven't tried, has anyone else?)

Not bad. I'd prefer the Coles frozen to the ALDI "thawed for your convenience".
The ALDI tiramisu I've had is the same, made in Italy.
But I don't recognise the "Food Envy" brand. Is this a fresh Australian version, or the thawed italian product that I've seen in ALDI before?

    • It's imported from Italy. Food envy must be the importer.

      • Still the same product as Coles then. I'd rather buy frozen, and have it handy when needed than make a trip to ALDI for the thawed version.
Its like the thawed seafood in Colesworth. But sometimes you can persuade the deli staff there to sell you the frozen product (when on special of course), so it does not need to be used within 3 days.
All that said, Coles or ALDI, I do very much enjoy the imported Italian tiramisu.

        • Coles tastes different, might even be real mascarpone
Thicker cream and more prominent coffee and wine/brandy taste

  • Any of them gluten-free? Hate to be asking but my mum just got ‘diagnosed’ and it’s her favourite dessert

    • +1

Can I assume from your use of quotes that this was not a proper medical diagnosis?
Tiramisu has wheat flour as a vital ingredient.

    • +1

      Neither of them are.

    • Can not imagine how awful a gluten free version would be.

  • How does this compare to legendary Coles $5 Tiramisu

    • According to legend, the Coles marketing team are good at propagating fake legends. Depending on which legends you subscribe to, your preferences will be manipulated in various ways. Be your authentic self, and let OzBargain make your mind up for you

Fairbarn films influenced me- I must repent

  • -1

I've tried this, it's pretty terrible. Sure, great value, but not a good tiramisu

    • Your value proposition appears to be a sellout

  • So, umm.. Choc truffle..any good?

    • Personal preference, but I prefer this. The choc truffle is still very good. You can't go wrong for the price. Just be prepared to eat the entire thing in one sitting.

    • I'm not a fan of the choc truffle but the tiramisu is excellent

    • I like both but prefer tiramisu. You can taste the alcohol in the choc truffle one
