They're only available in March during Mardi Gras.

      • +2

and there's no packaging identifying whether they're B22 or E27.

        • +6

Bugger, brings back bad memories in Thailand.

    • lgbt?

  • +1

Can I simply get a B22 to E27 adaptor and put this bad boi on?

    • Don’t see why not

    • i asked in Bunnings & they said there's no such thing..

      • You can get it from ebay

        • +2

You can but they are usually cheap Chinese sh*t and I wouldn't trust them.

          • +5

            @R4: I agree, I have these adapters and they're sh**t. It's hit and miss.

          • @R4: R4 someone downvoted you, but you're absolutely right.
It's really difficult to find good quality adaptors - they're almost always the cheapest possible build.

            • +5

@Nom: Yep. I'm a (non-practicing) qualified electrician, so I know a bit about this stuff. A lot of the electrical gear that you can buy on eBay is dodgy AF. Most is just cheap Chinese junk. Sure, it will probably work, but is it safe? Maybe, but I wouldn't take that chance. Others are welcome to differ.

I was probably downvoted by some me Chinese BE CCP lovers - they're out there and they do love the downvote button!

But simpler to buy a packet of matches or an anet a8 if you want to burn your house down.

Cheap chinese fittings without any compliance on something like this is not a risk I would want to take.

For reference, I bought 'fireproof' accoustic foam panels from China…..and they were probably more flammable than the hindenburg. You just cant trust sellers for stuff like that.

      • +1

Ebay or Aliexpress. But probably wouldnt trust it…

      • I have that in my house.. u can get all converter from eBay. Works fine for me. Cost very less

    • +1

I tried that. But the adapter gets so dangerously hot and it also affects the lifespan of the bulb.

    • +1

Using this exact light with an adapter now. No issues.

    • +7

There's a potential safety issue if someone has switched active and neutral either at the batten holder or upstream . The adapter will be live and you may not.

      • +2

Not to state the obvious, but don't change the globe with the light turned on.

Nothing should be live whilst you're making the switch !

      • +3

This needs to be upvoted more. It's not just if its an issue in the wiring, but there's a 50% chance that YOU as the installer will connect the live/neutral pin on the B22 socket the wrong way around. The screw part of the B27 adapter will then be live (instead of neutral as usual). The lights don't care, but it becomes a safety hazard if you don't turn the light switch off whilst changing lights, as Nom mentioned.

  • Seems to be Tuya based too, so should integrate okay with home assistant. Worth a shot for $5.

  • No pickup available :(

  • Ah, what an idea

  • +10

yeah whoever invented 2 different light bulb sockets is a moron.

    • +2

Must be the same person who invented 20 different socket configurations and 120 vs 240 volts

I think Australia, like the UK, was almost entirely bayonet fitting until Ikea moved here. Their fittings are always Edison Screw and I believe that's how they started creeping in.

      • New Zealand also had edison screw start creeping in decades ago and still hasn't got an Ikea. The change is happening because it's the superior fitting and far more widely used worldwide, not just in Ikeas.

        • +3

          What about them is superior?

I had always heard the opposite.

        • +1

The change is happening because it's the superior fitting

          Hahaha what !
The Edison screw is much more flimsy - I'm sure we've all seen fittings where the threaded metal is so thin and soft it just deforms with the slightest touch.
And what's more, it takes 20x as long to change the globe.
The Bayonet fitting is absolutely superior.

          • +1

@Nom: The Bayonet socket has numerous technical problems, which is why there is a continual movement away from that system. One particular issue is vibration, as the lamp is never properly held tight. If you have bayonet sockets on the ceiling of a 2 story house with a wooden floor above, you often get really poor lamp life as the bulbs get shaken with each footstep.

A Bayonet lamp in a lamp under a ceiling fan is even worse. Low wattage is OK, as the filaments are shorter and run cooler – but as the wattage increases the unreliability increases as well.

The removal problem is because the lamp must be able to push "in" then twist to remove. As the lampholder ages, the springs fail (causing poor electrical contact) or the pins get sticky making it impossible to push in enough to be able to twist and release the "pin slots" in the sides.

Further, the solder on the ends of the lamp DOES "cold flow" and after a long period at elevated temperatures, the connection pins end up inside a "dent" in the solder. This also makes it heaps harder to turn and remove the lamp when it fails.

With an Edison Screw socket, providing the threads are clean and the metal is not dissimilar (eg: brass on Aluminium, causing corrosion), the thread will always release very easily. As soon as it turns, the spring pressure on the centre pin releases. As a rule, the ES is far easier to remove.

            • +3

@ankti231: I don't see that any of those downsides apply to Bayonet with modern LED globes, except maybe the springs weakening - LEDs don't care about vibration, nor do they get anywhere near as hot as filament globes.

              We aren't running white-hot vibration-sensitive lights any more 👍

I'll take Bayonet with weak springs after 20 years, against Edison every time 😎

        • There's a considerable overlap in suppliers to Australia and New Zealand, particularly with electrical goods due to the similar standards. If something creeps into one market it's very likely to creep into the other.

  • They have a Zigbee bulb for only $12 too. Anyone know if it works with Hue bridge?

Got 2 of these for free with my perks voucher a few weeks ago

  • I have no idea about these, whats better for a small bedroom the st64 or the g95 and whats the retail price on these?

  • Got a e27 half year ago and it disconnect from Lenovo app pretty much weekly although the time schedule for on/off still work on the bulb itself

  • I got a couple of these. It didn't seem to work - when I turned off then on at the power point they lost their connection and started flashing wildly. Not a good time.

  • Who would've thought Lenovo also makes lightbulbs.

  • got these with my jb perks a few weeks ago

  • Smart bulbs, smart phones, smart TVs and everything else. Where can I buy something stupid?

    • +11

Well I'm technically on the market if the price is right.

    • You need a smart fridge. Because obviously you need intelligence to keep fruit cold.

      • My fridge is not smart but works perfectly. I get to adjust the temperature myself. Not sure you can do that with a smart one. My washing machine is semi-smart I suppose. My old washing machine was not smart at all and did the washing better, in half the time of my new one.

        • I should have added an /s to my above comment

Sounds like a dumb bulb out of China.

You sure these are reliable and not….. you know……

  • Is anyone else the checkout screen just keeps reloading after clicking "next step"?
Oh well, I'm sure a similar deal will happen soon.
