  • can anyone comment on their experiences with this? I have the grass trimmer with the plastic blades but it's not very convenient for lawn edging, particularly when they go fly off if you hit the pavers to hard.

    • also wanting to know if worth the purchase.

      • -2

        depends how well it sucks

    • +1

Don’t have a trimmer yet but I’ve read line trimmers are better than the blade versions. I’ve had this on my watch list for a while so will finally buy one now that it’s on sale (was about to buy the skin version this week but thanks to the OP for bringing this kit to my attention!) I’ve got the 2 x 18v mower plus the 18v edger - they work well to maintain a small/medium area so hoping this trimmer will tidy up what the mower can’t get to

      • Not on sale. Standard price.
If you already have the green Bosch batteries, may be better off getting the Bosch skin (about $100).

      • Can't comment on the bladed version beyond all the terrible reviews in various threads here.
Which were enough to force me to stick with the corded trimmer version even my old unit broke a couple of years ago. Still works a treat and easily cut through thick Buffalo including edging.
Would have liked to go cordless of course, but at the time would have had to switch to another brand and battery set. Certainly would have considered this if available, although expect lower power, single line instead of two and thinner line. So trimming performance likely lower than the corded version.

    • Yep, or the end that attaches to the rotating head starts melting off and the whole thing flies off.

You can cut off about 10cm of trimmer lines then melt one end to form a bulb, cool it off and stick it in the hole on the rotating head. It's a pain in the butt, so you might be better off buying something else.

      • there is a tutorial online on how to do it i an easier way, or even provides an attachment that can be 3D printed to turn the blade version into a line one

      • Given that you normally feed out more line every few minutes I can't see this being practical.

    • -4

I bought this for the battery last year, it is terrible at cutting anything thick, like buffalo or Kik. The blades dig into the ground very easily.

      • +1

This doesn't use blades. It's a line trimmer.

    • -1

Same here, plus the plastic blades are ridiculously expensive $13 for 20. I purchased a pack of 50 for $5 elsewhere but the quality were worse.

    • -1

This is pretty crap. The plastic blades tear off every single time of use.

  • +6

Plastic blades one was pretty bad the last time I tried.

    • +5

I have one and quite like it. Bought 50 blades for $9 off eBay as well.

      • +2

Have you used the eBay ones yet? They made my life hell. Broke into pieces and snapped off at the slightest touch of something thinner than a blade of grass. Went through like 10+ blades each time on my medium sized lawn. Not worth the savings (with the ones I received)

        • yes, ebay ones in my experience are terrible. would be happy to hear if anyone has experience with similar ones that are actually good (beside ozito original)

          • @Agent Q: I've used the Bosch replacements, found online, fit perfectly and seem to be slightly better than the original - certainly cheaper.

    • so much better than messing around with line.. that stuff is a pain to install and adjust and probably more expensive than the blades

people have problems with blades flying off but that only happens if persist while the machine is bogging down… if you avoid that you'll only need to replace them when they're grinded down.. more convenient to replace the blades too - line often gets tangled or caught in the spool, real pain in the ass

      • reel pain in the ass :P

  • +5
    • yeah just noticed this, stock of the 18v kit is very limited as well.

    • +2

I have this. It's powerful but a few cons. The bump feed sometimes gets stuck. The wrist of the trigger hand has to be bent at an uncomfortable angle. It's heavy and not well balanced, so aches and pain if I use it for anything other than a quick trim. Forget about doing edging with it

    • +4

I also can't recommend this. The ergonomics are horrid. I get pain in my wrists just thinking of it.

      • So if you had your time again, I assume you would go for the 18v version based on weight and ergonomics alone?

        • +1

Dunno. I haven't seen this is stores.

It was either the 18v with blades (which I returned) or the 2x 18v which I have but hate.

I'll probably return and go Ryobi + battery adaptor as the one+ felt really nice in-store.

          • @scphotos: Me neither, never seen the single 18V line version. When I was looking, it's the plastic blades nonsense, or this monster 2 x18V.
I'm very tempted to get the EGO telescopic line trimmer now even with the crazy cost.
$400, but no more pains and auto line loading sounds cool

            • +1

@Navanod66: I have the 2x18v as mentioned above its a bit of an annoying monster. Got it cheap, so its been OK, but its not fun to use. However this 18v one has an adjustable head which is my biggest problem with the 2x18v lacking it. If i see this in store i might buy it.

              • @sidoz: Yes! It's impossible to edge with the 2x18V. I eventually got the dedicated Ozito edger and it's a life saver.

                • +1

@Navanod66: Depends what kind of edging. It's fine for all my backyard edging (well, besides the bad ergonomics) but yes for edging a channel along a footpath etc very impractical. I still use it to tidy up with and only bring out the Ozito edger when really needed. I probably should use it more often.

        • I bought this one in a kit last time that also had the hedger head and the mini chainsaw. Must say, the 36v makes a difference in those heads. I recently used the chainsaw head to cut up half a tree that snapped off in the recent gales of wind and works well.

But agree that the ergonomics suck on this as it's heavy (two batteries instead of one) and very long (though that helps with the other accessories including the extender to put the heads on.

  • Whats the difference between ozito and ozito pxc ? Any idea ?

    • +2

pxc stands for Power Ex Change. Essentially Einhell Power Exchange products that have multiple tools that take the same battery. Much like ryobi one+

    • PXC denominated the series of 18v battery powered tools that interchange with each other.

Ozito also has some 12v battery powered tools but they can't be used with these

    • +1

      PXC is their 18v platform.
The grey Ozito is their "home" series, which is even more light duty than the PXC stuff

  • I have also same problem with plastic blade - bosch art line 26 it does not trim very well.
I am still deciding whether to buy another battery power or straight to petrol power which definitely will do better.

  • Noticed this line trimmer only has 1 line instead of the usual 2. Not sure if it makes much difference?
    c

    • +1

Technically it will cut twice as slow because you will hit the grass 8,000 times a minute (8000 rpm) instead of 16,000. In practice the difference may not be as drastic because the motor will slow down every time the line hits something, but two lines will still cut faster.

    • +1

      Very light duty.
Its also only 1.6mm line. I run 2.4 or 2.7mm in my Makita

  • -1

Bought the skin only for $39 a few years ago. Still not worth it….

    • +8

Totally different. This uses line, not plastic blades

  • Is this one listed same model as more expensive one only difference is more expensive one has two batteries.
I have the deck plate mower from years back works great but not used in a year as moved into property with fake grass.
I sold my fuel trimmer and if moving back into house with lawn again this will be handy.
I was always eyeing up the battery trimmer which im sure was this but was bit pricey.
But seems a good price unless I’m mixing this model up with more expensive listed

It was this one I was always going to buy lol one listed here is not so I just wait maybe it get cheaper one another day as got no lawn to cut I thought it was this with price drop.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-36v-2-x-18v-300mm-cord…

    • It's not the same. That one is more powerful but does not have an adjustable head which is a big limitation (i own it).

    • Wow, you don't have a lawn but are considering this on the offchance you get one. You should check in to Ozbargain rehab

      • I have a battery mower used it for 3 yrs in last place; place I’m in now has fake grass but I kept my mower and several batteries and ozito gadgets, used to use the fuel trimmer and got rid in this place and it for more than 3yrs.
I never got around to getting the ozito trimmer and I thought it was the one I had been interested in.
I remember the one I was interested in was as always a kit so was pricey but now I just remembered they do skin only now or I think for a while now I just forgot.
This one listed on here is the blade ones which I was never interested in but the other I had been.
Yes I don’t need one now maybe not next year or year after that but would not stop me buying if price dropped heaps.
As who knows where I end up next and next place I will probably need a trimmer.

  • Certainly not a good buy at $259, even at this price it would be quite gutless. Better than the bladed version but still no good for getting through anything thick.
The 2 x 18v one would be much better for $259

    • -1

I would not be so sure. All it has to do is spin a bit of line, it's does not have to deal with much resistance. Run time would a lot less i imagine.

      • +1

No resistance? What about when the line hits a thick weed or grass runner? It just slaps it and doesn't actually do anything to it.
There is a heap of resistance when you run thicker line and why commercial machines can run 2.4-3mm line where this is 1.6mm.

        • I don't see any issue with any weeds at least none i've encountered, but sure a thick buffalo runner is a good point i overlooked. I guess if you're attacking an overgrown block that is a whole other kettle of fish im not considering. I have the 2x18v myself and with stock line a buffalo runner can be a challenge and end up in snapped line. Aftermarket line improves this of course. I previously had a different 18v trimmer and had no issue with it using thicker line and resistance for my basic use. That is of course very subjective to technique and your yard. A commercial use obviously needs to a tackle a wide range of scenarios much more than i or surely anyone buying this would.

      • I have the Aldi version of this, and while it's way better than the bladed version, when trimming buffalo grass you will be taking absolute ages to get through everything. I am going to try to put thicker line in mine (I think mine takes up to 2mm), but I tried my mates Ego one and that rips through everything in no time. I actually did all my edges in about 1/5 of the time and also didn't have to use as much line as I would with my small one.

  • +2

I've got the cheapo 18v Ozito line trimmer.
    Pretty happy with it.

I use mine for edging…but I had to use a square mouth shovel first (or Electric Edger if it's not too untidy) to "cut" the boundary.
And then it's just regularly (weekly or fortnightly or monthly) running the line trimmer along the boundary.
If you leave it too long without edging (I dunno…like, months?), then you'll need to get the shovel out again.

I also use it where the mower can't reach (against plants, fences). You do have to be careful not to hit them because the nylon/plastic will just break, but I believe it comes with 10 pieces.

  • Anyone know if it comes with any line? I am so jack of burning through two of the plastic blade things on my current PXC edger every time i need to do the lawn…

    • Says 1.6mm x 5m.

    • Yes, see my post above.

  • Ozito 18V was $259? Even the Makita one is not that expensive: https://www.bunnings.com.au/makita-18v-line-trimmer-kit_p040… ($215)

    • According to Price Hipster, this was $240 till May 2022, before increasing to $259. https://pricehipster.com/product/hxXKAMmxPVyBbwUuMau3JA~HJ1K…

      • -1

See my comment below. It's the wrong product.

        • +1

Price Hipster says it's the 18V version, not the 2x18v. Ozito website says it's a Promo item so no idea what the regular price is. It may well be $125.

  • +1

A while back someone posted a link to an ebay store where you could buy the two line head for this. Anyone happen to know where to get it?

    • Can it use two batteries of different capacities, say 3.0Ah + 2.0Ah?
I guess it would be only as good as two 2.0Ah? Would that be powerful enough?

      • +1

If you buy it in a kit it comes with 2ah batteries. So i assume they'd be upto the task.

        • Thank you!

      • I use two 4Ah batteries (until they go flat and then back to the two 2Ah).
Maybe it's psychosomatic, but it feels like the 2Ah batteries don't cut as well and go flat a lot quicker than 50% of the 4Ah.
I have Four 2aH batteries and using 2 lots of 2Ah doesn't seem to last as long as the 4Ah set.

        • Psychosomatic means the troubles of the mind are physically manifested in the body. Do you think you're simply willing the batteries to go flat? If so, don't do that, they should last longer!

  • +3

Woah -> Everyone this is a mistake it's not half price :|

This one is the 36V but they use to brand this as 18V x 2 which is why it looks like it's half priced but it's not.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-pxc-36v-2-x-18v-300mm-cord…

    • +3

You're right. The one in the OP is a single 18V.
and with 0 ratings and reviews, seem to suggest its a new item in the range, not a discount on existing stock.

If you already have the batteries better off with the 2x18V skin for $159

      • Not sure if neg required though, seems a good price for a small trimmer regardless of discounted price comparisons.

  • +1

    Hopefully Ryobi’s on sale soon

  • +2

Jesus… For $300 more you could get a line trimmer which takes 2.7mm cord and will last you 10 years!!! You can do edging even though like trimmers aren't for edging.. atom edgers are for edging. For $250 you could even get a good second hand Shindaiwa or Stihl.

  • +1

Was about to order but then realised this is a new model and not the same as the original model cited. It's more inferior.

    • "more inferior"

      lol.

Because the 36V one is already inferior…

      • +1

        It's less superior…

  • +1

This is the normal price for this trimmer.

I bought the Ozito a couple of months ago. I've used the Ozito and the Ryobi (similiar price range) and I find Ryobi better.

Always buy these sort of products with a focus on the battery and what other tools are offered as you might be upgrading power tools in future.

  • +1

I must be the only one that does not mind the plastic blades… it works totally fine for me and the wife.. maybe our lawn is not as complicated as others here..

    • I have 100m+ of fence to trim against. Blades were horrible.

  • -1

got an 18v version. works great though not if you want to dig in the dirt with it. and yes the clippies fly off zip tie is better

  • +1

Been waiting for a while, Thx op

    • +2

      This is new.

It is NOT the 2*18V line trimmer that you have been waiting for

  • What's the difference between this and the grass trimmer plastic blade

  • +1

Bought one click and collect, thanks. Do you guys know if Bunnings are normally open on Christmas Eve?

  • Just got one. I hope it is good, shame that it doesn’t have a guide wheel for edging

    • +1

Used it today and very happy, just lawn and edging no tough weeds or anything difficult to cut. Being able to change the angle is great. did tree house with only 2 recharges, last over half hour with 2.5 and fast charged worked like it should. Would be happy to recommend

  • i have one , its useless with anything that is semi tough.

  • SA, Edwardstown…reduced from $125 to $67, I grabbed one and there is one left 5:59pm CST albeit with a damaged box

  • Is there a battery trimmer with power head instead of bump feed?

    • Automatically feeding line?
      Yeah Ego makes one

      • No power head is where you place two pre cut peices into the head. This way the line lasts longer as you only change it when needed. Way more economical.

        • Just get a speed feed head

  • -3

Friend has one of these … help her occasionally round her place …never have I used such a POS! I bring my Kawasaki now to avoid the frustration, you buy Ozito stuff you have no self respect!

  • Got this fake alert from pricehipster this morning and got really excited, until I realised they buggered up the product. I've been stalking the 36V version @259, waiting for a deal. First ever alert from hipster and they borked it. Camel^3 are so much better.

This can't be normally 259 as it's so much less product than the 36V one for the same std price. $125 is probably OK for a lower power single string battery trimmer, but I need more grunt.

  • +1

i can confirm a champ junior 2 from alex brushcutter heads fits onto the ozito brushless 36v 4 in 1 multi tool from this deal. says expired but found one at my local

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/733501

    https://www.alexbrushcutterheads.com/champjunior2.html

  • Anyone recommend the Homelite 25cc compare to this? I don't mind fuel or battery but see the Homelite is $149.
