Love it but since the release of the TMNT pack on consoles, kinda makes this a little bit of a yer nah thing

    Would have loved it tho

Can you mod this thing to play other games?

    • -8

      yes. google is your friend.

      • What hardware and software platform do these run?

          • +20

@gizmomelb: Pretty sure most people know of the existence of Google. Often people ask specific questions because there are people willing to share their expertise on topics to save people falling into the potential rabbit warren of interpreting search results which can be subjective.

You're not being helpful or even funny so as a community we're all better off you not answering at all. Thanks.

            • +2

@Punkboy: Yer I like to ask to get first hand experience rather than google. I do both but as I said, asking and maybe starting up a conversation with someone that had done it is always the best in my books.

Looks to be a 4:3 ratio screen. Can you confirm? I looked at the Kogan specs and couldn't find the details.

For those willing to diy, instructables.com has a heap of plans. Old laptop and batocera works a treat.

    • Yep. 17' LCD 1024 x 768

  • Must resist!

Man I wasted all my lunch money on this thing back in the 90s

    • +2

Pretty sure this was the one that tipped me over the edge.
Kept feeding coins after school, and had my bus money set aside. In the heat of the moment… stuff it! Decided on walking. Yeah, I lasted another 2min, didn’t beat the boss.
9km, 1hr50min walk of shame home, to contemplate my addiction.

These things are too small for 4 adults and kids these days are not wanting to play retro graphics

    • +3

Maybe your kids. My 5yo daughter loves TMNT.

    • Sorry, gotta disagree about what kids play. Got 2 primary school kids here that play switch, and equally OLD crap on the picade. Like Atari, C64 kinda stuff with horrible sound & “graphics”.
As much as I’m PC for life…. Simple button mashing is all I want a lot of the time. Thems we’re the days!

Rock n Roll racing, Sunset Riders, anything Mario… 1000’s of hours spent on simple stuff.

    A review from Reddit

“Be warned, Turtles in Time has several issues. The sound channels are messed up and require aftermarket speakers and some modifications to fix. The issue isn't the speakers themselves, but how the sound channel was split between the headphone jack and the main line. They effectively switched the two, making the sound very tinny and generally terrible coming form the main speakers.

Online has been dead since launch, likely due to the fact that you can only play with one player locally if you decide to go online.

Level skip/reverse features from the original were removed, possibly due to the inability of the developers to nix it from online games vs local.

This is the only cab I regret buying, and for what I paid, given the issues out of the box, it soured me for a good 7 months on buying anything A1UP.

The only positives I can give are the art (which many people hate but i love it), the cab design (moved away from their generic panels from gen 1), and it's the one cab the kids love playing when friends/family are over (the lack of limited lives means they can button mash and just enjoy the game without worry).”

They also have the X-Men cab bundle for $699 - might make a better base for modding other games in, cos it's got more buttons for each player…

I remember when Aldi were doing these a few a years ago got a street fighter 2 for $250 . Think you will hard pushed to find 3 friends that would want to squeeze around 17 inch screen instead of sitting on a sofa playing xbox on a 70 inch tv..

    • +1

very lucky, my local must of sent them back to warehouse, we had them for like 2months at RRP then vanished.

    • +1

I saw these got all the way down for 150 and hesitated, mainly cos it was near work and I was catching public transport at the time, and the other half would have been spewing. I often wish I had bought one or two but honestly a whole cab for one or two games is pretty hard for most people to justify the space. Other than that it was well worth the price and modding would have been an option.

      • +2

I think justifying it to your girlfriend or wife would be the hardest thing lol

  • +1

Wow you'd think they'd use something more advanced than ms paint for that artwork.

If this was the Buck Hunter for that price, I'd buy 8

    • $1400

    • +3

      It replicates the original artwork.

  • +1

Bought my arcade one up for 150 from aldi. Gutted it and put in new sticks buttons and a retropie. Why just play one game? Also 2p is squishy enough on mine!

    • I got 3 from Aldi many moons ago. One for $99 and the other 2 for $150. 2 x Street Fighter and 1 x Rampage. Keeping to original but yet still have to mod the third

    • Got mine and chucked in a PC. Play the usual arcade stuff plus Dragon's Lair, Daphne emulation & Sony PS1 titles such as FF7

  • +1

Could you potentially make these coin operated/tap card?

    • I have no idea mate I just flashed retropie onto my rasberrypie

  • Haha wow at the Simpsons Arcade price. Damn. Probably worth it though.

  • I thought I would see how much shipping was and it won’t even ship to my postcode of 4221

  • +1

Yeah, I would wait until I can get one for $150-$199

    • +1

      That'll be never.
This is already half the usual price - if you want one, you aren't going to find cheaper.
