        You were supposed to cancel it with Paypal so that it fails when GoPro tries to charge you. If you tell them that you are cancelling then it makes sense that they would complete the charge before deleting the payment information.

      They will try multiple times to complete the charge, so you would need to use a credit card that will refuse the transaction for the next ~2 months, or you use paypal and cancel the approval.

    Don't recommend the Hero 9 at all. Extremely sluggish/non-responsive touch screen that was almost impossible to use day to day. Was glad when the Hero 10 came out as it improved on this massively.

      I was going to have a bit of a bitch but I haven't actually handled a 9 so I was reluctant to dump on it…

      The 8 & 9 are basically the same, I had nothing but issues with the 8 and that seems quite common, regular lockups and you'd have to pull the battery to reset it, and it would often just turn off and stop recording for no reason… It was unreliable as a helmet cam, sometimes it would record for 5 mins then stop, sometimes 10 mins then stop, you certainly couldn't rely on it to record until the battery goes flat like you can with all the other gopro models.. It annoyed the hell out of me…

      The 8 & 9 had the old generation processor chip, I suspect they were just pushing it too hard which caused the issues, the 10/11 had a new chip, GP2?, which seemed to fix all the old issues but introduced some heat issues… . I'm happy with the 10, it's pretty reliable…

      I also didn't like the fixed lens on the 8 & 9, at least with 7, 10, 11 if damage the lens you can just click it off and click a new one on… .

        I bought an 8 about 3 years ago just before going to the Great Barrier Reef. Had many issues with it and found that it failed to record most of my snorkelling with the family in the reef amongst the fish, turtles etc. It failed to do what I had basically bought it for.

        Returned it to JB for a full refund.

          I had no issues with the original Hero HD, then I stuck with the old Hero 2 for a lot of years, lol, she was a beast, well over 2 hour record time on a battery, recorded thousands of hours, she's been to hell and back… Tried a 3, 5,& 8, had one issue or another with all of them, from memory the 3 was ok it just had really crap battery life, and the 5 wasn't much better…

          Currently on a 10 and it's pretty good, once in a blue moon it will throw up an error "trying to repair file" or some such crap, but that's rare and it may be SD card related, and the battery life isn't great if you want to record all day long on a helmet or such… In general the 10 is pretty good, great footage with little effort…

          I haven't really heard of any real issues with the 11 either..

          I specifically bought a used a Gopro5 because it's simple, hardworking and does what I need it to do. I have hundreds of gigs of video footage from good times on my pro and would still recommend the 5!

          Yes the newer ones have better stabilisation, but they seem to have lost battery life and reliability in exchange. If my Gopro5 broke, I'd immediately hunt down a second one!

    Beware : Looks like subscription fees have been charged straight away as it is reflecting on both my PayPal account and the credit card attached to PayPal my account.

    I called up GoPro customer service to cancel my complete order ( GoPro + subscription) and they say the order has been processed and that they would TRY to cancel however no guarantees.

      Mine only charged $320.14 straight away, so didn't include the subscription. Have now cancelled the Go Pro future transaction on PayPal.

    I ordered one without paying the subscription fee by remove all the money from my account and replacing it with only the amount for GoPro. After purchasing I logged in and cancelled the subscription via GoPro's website. So far so good :)

      Wouldn't that cause your account to become overdrawn if GoPro then try to deduct more money from it or nah? I'm contemplating doing this with my ING Debit account and just making the purchase with only the amount of money required for the GoPro only but paranoid this would happen or impact my account in other ways.

      You may have to leave your account empty for a while, lol …. When I used the hack via Paypal last year they attempted to bill me 3 times over a one week period but since the Paypal payment permission was cancelled they couldn't change me…

    I see on the cart $379.95 including the subscription 1 year, how do I get the GoPro 9 without the subscription for $309, what is the trick? I've never done this before, I have PayPal as well as another spare debit card. Can someone guide me?

      I'd just buy a digital MasterCard gift card with $310 value. Order the hero 9 plus sub deal and pay with gift card. They process order and ship cam, but when they try and deduct subscription fee they won't get it.

    keep the exact amount ($309.96 - any voucher or code value)in you bank account. use the debit card to pay the amount. cancel the subscription once order confirmed.

      Which is only really useful if you're not hoping to apply it to this deal (it negates the deal and makes it more expensive) or a subscriber (which removes the subscriber discount you're already getting - making it more expensive again), and then the shipping kills any sort of benefit unless you're spending over $200.

      Personally I think it's fairly useless…

      -You get unlimited cloud storage, but that only lasts as long as you're a subscriber.

      -Damaged camera replacement, I think the current replacement fee is $150.

      -Discounted accessories but batteries can only be shipped with a camera purchase, and you have to pay shipping on orders under $200? so it's generally cheaper to buy accessories locally.

      -Unlimited use of the Quik App, I've never used it so I'm not sure how worthwhile it is… .

    Got an email from GoPro accounts team saying they're unable to charge me for the subscription and to update my payment details/get in touch with them to resolve, which I'm ignoring… then a couple hours later I finally got an email confirmation with a tracking ID. It hasn't been sent out yet but it's seemingly going to be on its way soon! Phew.

    Edit: and now an invoice has been sent to me with the money received for the GoPro unit itself @ $309.96!
