  • Are these the “new” series that you can only use in store for most of the participating stores?

    • Unsure, but you can swap the "old" ones for the new ones as described here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/744157#comment-13105485

      • Can you use on the good guys online?
What is the limit on number of cards

        • +1

You can use the Visa version of Ultimate Home and Ultimate Baby & Mum gift cards1 online at The Good Guys (and probably TGG Commercial), but you can only use 1x Ultimate gift card on the TGG website, because the TGG website only allows 1x Visa card to be used in one online transaction.

If you are wanting to use more than one Ultimate gift card at TGG, you have options, but it involves going into a physical TGG store:

          • Purchase the item you want instore, where you can use as many Ultimate gift cards as you want in one transaction. Someone recently used 54 TCN and Ultimate gift cards in one transaction…

          • Use Ultimate gift cards to purchase TGG gift cards, then redeem 1x Ultimate gift card in conjunction with up to 2x TGG gift cards in one TGG online transaction. (Note you cannot redeem TGG gift cards on TGG Commercial’s website.)

          • For TGG Commercial, follow these instructions to pay for a TGG Commercial order in a physical TGG store (and therefore use as many Ultimate gift cards as you want… or as many as staff will let you use).

          1. The same is true for Ultimate Everyone gift cards, but that is not part of this deal.

          • @WookieMonster: So just to clarify, you can't use a Visa Card + Ultimate Visa in the same transaction on TGG online? It has to be one or the other?

            • +1

              @Moo Deng: Correct.

If you want to use a Visa Card + Ultimate Visa in the same transaction on TGG online, you will need to go to a physical TGG store to purchase one (or two) TGG gift cards using the Ultimate Visa. That will then mean you can use the TGG gift cards + Visa Card in the same online transaction.

          • @WookieMonster: Can you use them for the phone price match? I have a link from TGG to make the payment and i have three TGG giftcards to use. I am wondering if i should get a variable amount ultimate card for the remainder if it will allow me to pay.

      • wow that looks like an insane hassle + weeks of stress.

        • sorry i am bit late in replying but the loadable amounts up to $500 per 1 card are also included in this deal. so you need to get the loadable ones and just add something like $500.

  • is this can be use on amazon online?

    • +2

No, Amazon has never been part of the participating retailers for Ultimate gift cards

On a side note, looks like only Ultimate Everyone is excluded

      • Yeah that's the only one I'm interested in. I saw that card in Woollies the other day - I just wanted it for Stan. With all the GC deals lately I am already in front until 2024 with Binge and Netflix - just want to do the same with Stan.

        • +3

One idea is to use a TCN or Ultimate gift card to purchase a Stan gift card at JB Hi-Fi.

I think The Good Guys may stock it too, although it has been quite a few months since I have been to a TGG store.

          • +1

            @WookieMonster: Thanks @WookieMonster

          • @WookieMonster: Tried this and JB staff at mascot said I can't use GC to purchase GC

            • +4

@h4zey: You don't tell them it's a gift card; rookie mistake. Just say you want to pay on card

              • +3

@kerfuffle: Can confirm this works. Been doing it for Stan for a few years now. Even easier with the Ultimate as you can load them into your mobile wallet and just tap and pay.

                • @daanish: @daanish What mobile wallet are you using? I've tried google and it doesn't work for me. On their website at the top it even mentions they're having trouble, but doesn't specify which mobile wallet isn't working right now.

                  • +1

@Ricky Jones: I'm using Google Wallet - Assuming you've got one of the new Visa based ultimate cards you can manually add it to Google Wallet by typing in the card no and cvc from the back of the card and then pull the card expiry by logging into the card at the check balance website - https://myprepaidcentre.com.au/home

I've added and used Him, Thanks and Home cards personally.

              • @kerfuffle: The guy at checkout noticed my card in my hand :s
Will try to hide it next time..

      • that's sad

      • That is the best one!

  • +1
  • +7

No one is concerned how frequent these sales are? How are they actually making money?

    • +1

What if they are still making money with sales on? :P

    • +14

I guess from the people that buy it and don't use it for a while… then you have people that use it but don't use the full value… or I wonder what the stats are on unused gift cards all together… I rkn probably a few % of all gift cards sold are never used.

      • +2

I used to work at David Jones and over 3% of gift cards were never redeemed. And it was banked as profit.

      • Yep. I had a $200 hoyts gift card purchased in 2018 with 3 yr expire in 2021.

i bought it for 20% off because and it had a 3 yr expire. I didn't use it in 2019 and set up a reminder to use it on 2020 with my friends.

well guess what happened? covid happened. i lost $160. lol i am still salty.

I reckon the gift card companies made a killing during 2020 and 2021 because of Covid. Many gift cards went unused and sat there going expired. lol

    • +2

One thing for sure is: TCN is making money when Ultimate is on sale, vice versa.

      • how?

        • +12

Many People bought the wrong cards.

          • -2

@Neoika: You can always buy something, go back and return it and get a refund on your credit card. Make a profit. I recently did that with TGG and as it showed eftpos, they allowed refund on the credit card. I will try that as i have leftover teen GC left.

            • @Royale with cheese: I didn't neg. You are talking about redeeming giftcard.

              • @Neoika: Yes rather than letting them expire. Not sure why it is negged. The retailer will not lose money and you get your share back.

  • +10

Starting to get sus with the endless sales, need new money in to pay for the existing cards being used

  • anyone know if u can use your woolies 10% monthly discount (from woolies mobile) in conjunction?

    • +2

never works with gift cards… it'll just discount ya groceries if you tried

    • +4

It will ask at the final stage of the checkout if you want to use your 10% off. If you select yes it will give a big fat 0% off and you'll use up your discount for the month.

    • Used to work. I bought my Series X with Eb Games giftcards, but it was disabled a while ago

  • These are still 15% off at coles atm

    • +5

      And impossible to find

      • Heaps left in Coles Erina today.

        • Now you said that here, they're gone
I tried 3 stores around me

          • +1

@Techie4066: my friend said there were heaps at castle hill a couple days ago cause they didnt have the banner up and it probably spooked people into thinking it was not 15 percent off, not sure if that is still the case

            • @Jollystacker: That'd be around the 10th closest coles, maybe it's a case of 10th time lucky lol

              • @Techie4066: hahah it would only be worth it if you actually got some, and like triple or quadrupled dipped with the limit (if there were even that many)

      • Sometimes they have some hidden in the storage behind where they are displayed. Went to one last year that was empty and some people opened the secret storage and it was full of them.

        • +1

My local coles had only variable load on display. I opened the storage compartment which was chockers. They all came crashing down in a heap and spilled into the aisle. Many loose cards (but no ultimate) and heaps of boxes with cards wrapped in plastic. I picked them back up as people stepped around me. Didn't have time to go through all the boxes but sure I would have eventually found some ultimate ones.

      • Heaps left in SA

      • Heaps in coles around melton. 100 ones are gone but plenty of 50s

      • Thousands worth left at Forster including Ultimate Home 30 mins ago. Still lots of $50 left in East Maitland of all types 3 hrs ago

      • Should double check. Some stores restock

    • +3

Pretty sure there are none left by now?

    • +4

      You're mostly right, but…

      • The Coles deal excludes the variable load denomination.

      • This upcoming deal at Woolworths includes the variable load denomination, but excludes the Ultimate Everyone gift card. (I presume it is due to the Ultimate Everyone gift card being 10% off at Woolworths during Black Friday.)

      • +1

10% off at Woolworths during Black Friday = that was epic

    • +3

ya little pissy denominations are annoying for large purchases and some staff just make up their own rules at checkout e.g. no split payments

    • Multiple local Coles stores still have stock of the "Ultimate Thanks" cards.
They are not listed on the Coles display as being discounted (but scan with the discount), in addition they are accepted at JB HiFi even though it's not shown on the front of the card (just make sure you get the new versions of the card not the old ones).

    • There's heaps in Coles Warnbro, WA. Was there about 2 hours a go, and at least about 100+ Cards left in various Gift Cards (Him, Her, Teen, Everyone, Kids & Students)

  • Can reward points on everyday rewards card be used toward the purchase of these giftcards?

    Thanks.

    • woolies is stingy ass, usually you don't get rewards points on the other with coles you get flybuys points and better discount at 15% off..

      • +1

I don't think Coles gives points on GC purchases…

        • +1

          They do

        • +5

          You're half right.

Here is a table of retailers accepting Flybuys and whether they award Flybuys on purchases of gift cards.

Retailer Gift cards issued by Coles Group Third-party gift cards
          Coles No Yes
          Kmart No Yes
          Target No No
          Officeworks No No
          First Choice Liquor No N/A
          Liquorland No N/A
          Coles Express ? ?

Meanwhile, you will not earn any Everyday Rewards points on any purchases of gift cards at businesses issuing Everyday Rewards points and selling gift cards unless there is a promotion specifically advertising that you will earn Everyday Rewards points on the purchase of specific gift cards.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Coles Express no longer gives any points for Coles group cards now, the final loophole is dead.

      • -1

I didn't ask if I would earn reward points. I already have some that I was checking if I could use towards the purchase of these giftcards.

  • +5

Just When I Thought I Was Out, They Pull Me Back In

  • 10%? Lol, need to beat 15% WW

  • +5

    15% or no deal.

    • +3

      15% better than 10%. But 10% better than 0%.

      • why not get what you want in cloes today? Easy to get 15%, staff are happy to sell me more than 5 cards. Plenty of $100 Home but not easy to get everyone.

        • +1

Most Coles are sold out of those if you read through the other deal.

    • Why not aim for 20% if ya aiming that high

  • These are 15% off at Coles.

    • hmm..If you are referring to Ultimate gift cards, then I don't think so. Tried today, no dice. I was told that they are not discounted, only the Celebrations cards are discounted.

  • Are variable denominations included? It doesn’t seem to be excluded

    • +1

      Yes, because:

      • The fine print does not exclude variable load denominations. If it did (like in a previous 10% off deal at Woolworths), the fine print would mention excluding Variable cards.

      • There are variable load denomination gift cards pictured in the catalogue.

  • +2

15% at coles, heaps of $100 home in coles broadway.

    • Oh really? Lady at the counter (Coles) checked and confirmed that they are NOT discounted.

  • +1

    Meh… Only 10%

  • -7

Can anyone tell me what the flaw of my plan is?

I currently have about 15 Home gift cards I recently bought from coles.

What if I purchase this gift card from office works by asking them to split payment into 5x $100 transactions and 1x $8 transaction on any card? Will it mean I effectively have turned them into a Visa card I can use anywhere?

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/only-1-vis…

    • Theoretically should be able to, but quite possibly you may find some Officeworks staff unwilling.

I have had mixed success doing split transactions at Officeworks

      • -2

Someone reported below not working. Worse still, a headache that it took payment but they are yet to see the balance back on their gift cards despite being refunded. Sounds like a nightmare of a hassle.

    • +1

      You are assuming the following:

      1. Officeworks staff are willing to do split payments. Although the checkout system will let staff do this, a staff member last month refused to let me split payments.

      2. Officeworks staff will let you use Ultimate gift cards to pay for gift cards. A staff member aborted a transaction last week when they asked to see the type of card I was wanting to use, and although I told them I had a Visa card, they insisted to see the actual card I was trying to use. It did not help that the Ultimate Home gift card I had cannot be added to a mobile wallet, because of a stupid bug that Blackhawk Network has not fixed yet…

Btw, you cannot use OnlyONE Visa gift cards anywhere. For example:

      • You cannot use it on some online portals where a Visa credit or debit card would probably be accepted (e.g. Gift Card Exchange, Special.com.au, Prezzee, Everyday Pay, Woolworths Group gift card portal).

      • You cannot use it to send payments to the ATO, as Indue (the gift card issuer) has blocked this.

      • You cannot use it at an instore merchant that does not accept magstripe cards. For example, I remember recently walking past one Subway location that only accepted contactless payments.

      • You cannot use it at Automated Fuel Dispensers (which completely rules out Costco's fuel stations).

      • You cannot use it at Woolworths to purchase some gift cards sold instore, as you will trigger an error on the EFTPOS terminal.

      • Does Officeworks sale coles group gift card?

        • Nope i don't think so

      • +3

Careful everyone, today I tried to use ultimate everyone gift card( $500+8 cash) to buy the only one visa card at my local officeworks and card activation failed. Manager said he can't do anything he just refunded into same gift card but I can't see any refund on ultimate gift card. I guess I have to deal with the ultimate gift card and office works customer care tomorrow. (It worked 4 days ago but it failed today)

        • -6

Who said you can buy visa gift card with ultimate gift card?
It was your fault from the beginning

        • Savethebuck, what was the outcome of the failed officeworks transaction?

          • @Brick50: Got refunded to gift card. Let me know if you have tried and succeeded in buying a visa one gift card in officeworks

            • @Savethebuck: Hi @Savethebuck, ive had a similar issue where activation had failed on my apple gift card purchase, and I got refunded to the Kids GC I've used. How did you go about getting your refund back? Would I just have to contact ultimate's customer service or would I have to go in-store to dispute?

              Thanks!

              • @rgsc: For me when the card activation failed manager refunded to the gift card immediatly. Then i spoke to ultimate gift cards support team, as per them, it will take 3 business days to refund to show up. So wait for 3 days if not refunded then reach out to ultimatum gift cards team. qq is card activation failed for just this giftcard or it happens to all of your gift cards purchases?
