Almost buy it until seeing VA panel

    • +5

Don't be too hasty here: https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/philips-328p6vubreb

Keep in mind the review is for the HDR version, though I'd imagine performance would be otherwise similar given Philips' history of product implementation.

      • +2

Though nothing to do with Philips beyond the licensed brand name. The monitors are made by the same company that makes AOC monitors, TPV Technology.

    • VA isn't that bad. I got the Dell and only way you can tell with IPS is that IPS is softer and blacker blacks.

At 32" the problem is that it is flat and you need to sit back.

      • +2

Nah not gonna try again, had an LG32UL500, I couldn’t watch 1 more minute after using it an hour side by side with another IPS panel monitor (yes, all calibrated), the color is so brushed and washed out just like my hazy everyday life.
YMMV tho, but to me VA to IPS is SMR to CMR in monitor realm.

        • +3

VA should display richer colours when all things are equal due to having a lower black level.

          • @tp0: It’s panel dependant, I’ve seen ips panels manage to have the issues of tn panels

          • -3

@tp0: VA smearing is one reason to avoid VA all together, especially if you're a dark mode user (aka a normal functioning person).

            • +1

@JerraJones: There are VA panels with better response times. In fact the only LCDs that come close to OLED are VA type.

It’s not inherent to the technology like say poor black levels is to IPS.

              • +1

@tp0: This is a 60hz panel so response time isn't really a consideration for people buying this.

VA smearing is inherent to VA panels, it's why it's been known as VA smearing for a decade lol. The severity does vary between different VA monitors but it'll always be there.

In fact the only LCDs that come close to OLED are VA type.

Just like the rest of your comment your info's wrong. Even the biggest 'esports monitor', the Zowie XL2566K (TN 360hz), matches 360hz IPS, but motion clarity is better there due to dyac. Though the downside to dyac is ~100 nits peak brightness.

        • +1

          Mmm, hazy pale ale

    • +11

      mate it's <$200..

      • +6

Yeah I know, that's why I am saying it's personal taste, my eyes just can't withstand VA, plus monitor is something I don't want to comprimise, unless you are just using it on "monitoring" systems.

        • +2

Out of interest if you can't stand VA what model is your TV?

          • +3

@tp0: Not using TV much other than gaming on PS5, but I’m using LG C2

      • +3

I know it’s cheap but if it was an ips panel it’s not gonna be sub $200

    • +3

VA has much higher contrast. IPS sucks when watching dark content like movies and dark games. As this is "only" a 32" panels the colours won't shift that much in the corners when sitting at reasonable distance.

      • I actually prefer IPS to VA when it comes to dark content. Yes, it has more of a grey haze over dark areas, but it doesn't crush it like VA does. It's much more flat colirs

    • and 60hz…

      • +1

Only gamers care about that though (not like CRT!)

  • +3

Very interested but curious what "tested" means? Will being tested guarantee no dead pixels or other issues?

    • +16

      Correct

  • +1

Does this model have a USB-C port?

    • Doesn't seem like it.

    • Cheap hub and away you go. Ran a USB-C work laptop to one of these right through Covid lockdown.

They do a few different models in this shape. Some have a USB3 hub in them but are not USB-C.

There is a USB-C model but I don't think this one is it.

      • New monitors with decent USB-C will run and charge your laptop while plugged in - so it's just a single cable connection to your laptop. You can achieve the same thing with a cheap hub, but you'll need to add a decent power supply as well.

    • No but it has VGA 🤣

  • Thanks OP.

Have this monitor and love it. Just grabbed two for the holiday place so I can check in and be away longer hopefully. Great price for a ton of screen real estate.

  • Thanks OP just bought one for work. I got the Samsung M7 for $433 as a bedroom home office for work and streaming movies and its size and picture is great for both. So when I saw this deal for less than half the price I had to get a 32" 4K monitor for the office to replace my 2x 22" monitor setup.

  • Thanks OP 😁

  • If only it was IPS :(

    • +2

Depends on what you will use it for… office work etx I don’t think it’s a problem.

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Philips-Brilliance-328P6VJEB-3…

    Verdict
The Philips Brilliance 328P6VJEB is a large and relatively cheap 4K display (Amazon: about $794). We liked the colour representation, contrast, ergonomics, colour coverage, energy efficiency, and flicker-free backlight. The somewhat limited horizontal viewing angles and not perfectly calibrated colours make it slightly less suitable for professional photographers. The input lag reported by Prad.de might restrict gaming use slightly. However, the Brilliance 328P is perfectly suitable for office applications and multimedia playback.

    • +1

Has speakers too. This would make a great second monitor and for the price which includes delivery for such a fragile/large item looks to be very good value.

  • +1

Grabbed a few for the kids, thanks, been waiting for a deal like this.

  • Thanks OP, been waiting ages for a deal like this. I got 2x DELL 2721QS while ago for $280 each. Now I have have them vertical on the side with this as my main.

    • +1

I already have one Dell vertically next to this as my main for WFH. It's great. One either side would be awesome.

  • Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP! Bought 2, Triple monitors on the cheap! (Got a 34" ultrawide in the middle)

    • Alienware ultrawide? ;)

      • It's a Samsung actually, I'm not a gamer really so it's met all my needs thus far. I was going to buy a 2nd one for vertical stack but these 2 x 32" monitors are basically less than half price after considering the cost of stand / mount required. Not quite as clean on the desk but still should be pretty sweet for productivity. Plus I could still go down that path later for 4 monitors maybe and flip these 2 screens vertically at that point 🤤

        • plz post pics of your monitors setup when you get it

btw how do you fit 3 x 30+ inch monitors on your desk?

          • @pinkybrain: Will do!
As for how to fit them, I'm about to find out 😬 definitely 3 ultrawides wouldn't fit but hopefully this setup will. The 2 x 32's on the outside will just be aggressively angled.

            • @Click_It: Hi mate, I am interested in this as well - how did you go? Can you post pics of your set up? You are doing exactly what I am thinking about. I have a 34 Samsung curved ultrawide in the middle. I am thinking about two of these, one either side.

              • +1

@b2dz: I ended up changing plans and dropping back to the single 34 Samsung in the middle. Reason being was specific to my setup here - the two 32s were too much in landscape (neck pain), in portrait they were great but whenever I changed to another computer (via KVM) the picture on both would rotate into landscape mode whilst physically positioned in portrait still, so it was unreadable whilst on other computers. Without that KVM issue I'd still be running them like that, I didn't get a photo though as the setup was very short lived sorry and both of those monitors are now gone.

New plan, I'm waiting for the LG 45GR95QE (45" OLED 800 Curve) which won't be for everyone as it's got the same resolution as our 34" monitors now but with my eyesight not being great I have to increase the DPI pretty aggressively now, so on a 45" I'd be able to run it normally and essentially get more realestate on it.

If I had to keep my 34 Samsung in play, I'd honestly get one more and mount it above my current one. I found the neck turning left and right was very unnatural feeling which was a surprise to me. But looking up and down, no problem. So I'd prefer 34+34 over 32+34+32 but ymmv. Also, the 32s gave off a fair bit of heat, less of an issue in portrait mode but you really feel it in landscape. Something I've never experienced from the Samsung.

                Hope that helps.

  • +1

Does it come with a hdmi or displayport cable?

    • Yes good question! Would be nice to know what to order (if necc) to be able to use it when it arrives.

      • +1

I don’t think it comes with a display cable. Only a power cable.

Reason… on their non eBay website those cables are a $10 option when I checked.

The OP should be able to confirm.

        • I guess I'll wait and see. It would be a rum do to sell a monitor with no cable at all, they always come with one new

          • +1

@Horacio: They might always come with one new, but this isn't new.

If it doesn't say on the listing anywhere that it comes with a cable, then I wouldn't count on it coming with a cable. Especially when on their website direct it costs extra to add whatever cable you want.

            • -2

@deva5610: Well, with respect, a monitor is useless without a cable, they are always sold with one, so why would this be any different? You don't buy a laptop without the charger, etc. I have never seen their direct website, I bought from ebay, with no indication it wouldn't include the customary cable. In my opinion it would be pretty unreasonable if they're collecting the cables from the ex-govt gear they buy, and flogging them separately.

              • +1

@Horacio: It would be different because it's used.

You bought it from eBay with no indication that it didn't have a cable, sure, but also no indication it did. You really can't assume with an eBay listing that you'll get anything over and above what is mentioned in the listing, especially for used items.

Plenty of things come without cables now as well to be fair. Printers for one. Phones without charging bricks. Etc.

                • @deva5610: Turns out your suspicion was correct, no cable provided.

  • Can these go portrait with the original stand?

    • +1

Mine can. Also can go quite high for laptop below.

  • How much does this weigh? Can’t find this info anywhere in the specs.

    • Ignore, found it. 9.36 Kg without stand.

    • +1

I reckon he thinks it has a washed out look, but I’m not sure. :)

  • Thanks. Got one

  • +1

Great monitor for this price. Clear, Bright, 4K and rotates to Portrait.

Two negatives. Damn slow to show a picture…. 10 secs. Finicky setting/control buttons. Once setup hardly ever use
    .

    • Is that 10 seconds from initial power on, or from standby, or both? Thanks.

  • +1

Went in to buy 3 and ended up buying 4! Couldn't resist!
    Kids will love these!
    Thanks OP :)

  • Can these be mounted?

    • The stand is a standard 100mm square mount config. So I'd says yes.

      • Yes but heavy. Check rating of arms

        • For it's size it's okay. My old 17" monitor arm would easily handle this baby. It's quality.

  • How old are these monitor?

  • +1

    and goooone

  • +1

This was a $700+ monitor a few years ago. Hard to say no at this price for the size and 4K..

  • +1

    0 available / 255 sold

    • Yep. Sold like hotcakes. Glad I bought 2 and didn't wait like I was going to.

    • +1

Where the heck did they get 255 used units? Is there some company that uses these as standard office equipment?

      • +1

Probably some govt department that used them for email.

        • +2

Big high res screens are great for working with spreadsheets or any other job where you need multiple windows open at once. I could never go back.

          • @mitt: I initially got mine for WFH when lockdown first happened. Ordinary monitors were selling out everywhere so I had to go upmarket. Best thing I did. Still use it daily. Spreadsheets and Word while telconferencing easily. Still added a 4k Dell 28 vertical next to it but this outshines it for readability of data.

          • @mitt: I use a 50" TV at home. I picked up one of these for the office. Work provides a 34" widescreen, but I want the extra height.

      • Office closure (because everyone WFH) or "end of lease" return maybe?

    • +1

A pity it was only 8-bit.

    • and that ladies and gentleman is how you make $50,000 in 3 hours.

      • Minus the cost of sales, and time to check/clean/pack and send 250 screens.

  • +1

Downvote coz not OLED 144Hz with HDMI 2.1 and G-Sync

    • Muzeeb?

  • -5

    60hz? eww

    • maybe in your world gaming is everything.

  • anyone still needs cheap 4k u can get brand new Dahua 28" 4k for $240, its also VA & only 60hz max, good productivity panels

  • Damn I should have checked ozbargan sooner. Could have really used two of these.

  • missed

  • Not even sure where i'll use this, M1 Air doesn't support dual monitor and I already have a 27" 4K IPS monitor with USB-C which is probably better overall. Sure it will find a place somewhere though..

  • +2

Bugger missed … I should not have thought, but just bought.

    • That is the OzB way… it should be the site's tag line and the number 1 rule for new members.

    • I bought on impulse and just realised my GPU won't support 4k because I was waiting for a decent deal on a new one.. looks like the ozb downward buying spiral begins (again)…

  • Darn for my daughters christmas carols yesterday evening! If anyone doesnt want or need their monitor they are ordered and in the Sydney area please pm me!

  • +6

We have more stock and I'll see if I can get some more released on Monday.
