Good price if you're in the market for a decent dashcam that doesn't break the bank. Best of all this uses a capacitor instead of a lithium battery so you don't have to worry about the battery being damaged in the summer heat.

The dashcam uses a Sony Sensor with 1440p resolution, 170° wide angle lens, Novatek 96675 chipset with improved night vision, inbuilt WiFi, app for settings and viewing/downloading footage, loop recording, G Sensor for collisions and WDR. There are other bundles available with an inbuilt GPS, hardwire kit and rear 1080p dashcam.

  • Grabbed, will see what it's like when it comes

I don't know how reputable is Sameuo, but i won't simply install their app on my main phone.
Suggest using a spare phone to install the app / set it up.

The other alternative capacitor dashcam to consider is from ddpai.

I don't know how reputable is Sameuo

it's Samsung's lesser known black sheep brother

      • +2

If you're so paranoid don't use the app at all.

        • bigger concern is
          -quality of the video, hardware
          -how long it lasts
          -warranty

          what does the app do?
and can you use the screen on this device (if it has any)?
or videos can only be viewed on the app (which makes the app a requirement)?

  • +1

how this compared to xiaomi and other brands?

  • +1

Note that at this price, despite the splashy layout, you don't get a GPS.

Also, everything I can find points to the Sony IMX307 sensor being only 1080p.

    • thanks
cost cutting is only way to get it to this price

how does it compare to xiaomi dashcams?
      and does xiaomi have GPS?

also how is GPS used in the recording?

      • Not sure. I've never had a really cheap dashcam.

GPS can show your speed on the video, and can set the clock if it loses the time.

        • oic, that could be useful for insurance purposes or for whatever reason (e.g. court case)
and auto set clock is pretty useful feature

    • Hence why I said GPS was in another bundle and when you select the cheapest one it says pretty clearly that there's no GPS ;)

      • You seem offended …

        • Nah certainly not. You can put something in the title or even in a heading right at the top and they'll still say "does it have X".

  • I have a front dash already

Would it be a dumb idea to get this and use it for the rear? Do people even use rear cameras?

    • Does your car have a second 12V socket? What dashcam do you currently use? Some of them will already support an addon camera, like most 70mai and VIOFO models.

      • is 70mai better than this camera?
        and 70mai includes GPS?

at least 70mai is more well known brand that has been posted regularly on this site and is also from popular Xiaomi brand,
never even heard of Sameuo till you posted now.

        • +1

\o/ I just Google between specs and compare videos if I wanted to do a comparison.

70mai are separate to Xiaomi. I'd recommend them if you want to spend more. I personally use their 4K A800S and it's excellent.

          • @Clear: not just video comparison

other things like quality of build, how long it last, warranty

            70mai is Xiaomi's subsidiaries..
does that mean Xiaomi create or bought those brands/companies but those companies run on their own without Xiaomi controlling them
and can take advantage of interconnected devices etc.

Not sure how that works other than they are known as being part of Xiaomi parent company.

            • @pinkybrain: Xiaomi buy or invest in companies (usually the latter) with some being contracted to make Xiaomi Mijia branded products, while others can join the Mi Home app ecosystem and some who sell in Xiaomi stores without having any relation to Xiaomi.

After 70mai was founded, Xiaomi invested a heap of money to get them going and incorporated them into the ecosystem. 70mai run independently hence why they don't have actual Xiaomi branding,

                interesting info..

wonder how the money flow works..

contracted to make Xiaomi Mijia branded products
does it mean Xiaomi splits the profit or cost with them?
or pays them to make it, then keeps the sales profit

while others can join the Mi Home app ecosystem

so they need to pay ongoing licensing fees to join and then get benefit of the app ecosystem connectiveness?

some who sell in Xiaomi stores without having any relation to Xiaomi.

those companies pays to be in the store or splits the sales profit?

Xiaomi invested a heap of money to get them going and incorporated them into the ecosystem.

so does Xiaomi own that company now and gets all/most/some of the money made from that company?
or what it means to be incorporated?

70mai run independently hence why they don't have actual Xiaomi branding,

yes, but people still associate them with Xiaomi
and some sellers advertise it as a Xiaomi product.

many people view those many products as being a xiaomi product even without the Xiaomi branding.

                • @pinkybrain: I don't know the specific details of how Xiaomi invests and what they take back.

those companies pays to be in the store or splits the sales profit?

No different to a store like JB selling various brands.

yes, but people still associate them with Xiaomi
and some sellers advertise it as a Xiaomi product.

Sellers do this because the word Xiaomi sells. If you see ones that mention "Youpin" then you know it was a successful crowdfunded product on Xiaomi's version of Kickstarter. This can be a shortcut for startups to come onboard with Xiaomi.

    • No not a dumb idea at all, many people have rear cameras and they are useful for when you get hit from the rear for example. Only issue I had was the window tinting on one of my cars started to come off because of the camera.

      • might be issue with cable length, since it only design for the front
nothing stopping you putting in the rear window if you can get the cable long enough to reach it.

there might also be issue if you want to connect both front and back camera
since the ones with front and back are design to be able to plug into both and share the power.

  • It looks good. I will buy it after I have a car…

    • put it on your bicycle or whatever

The only dislike is that it only allow 64GB memory.

  • Any good 4k dash cams deals or brands worth checking?

  • Purchased for my Electric Unicycle.
1: if anyone jumps in front of me I want evidence.
2: if hit by a car, I want evidence.

  • Received this. The hardware is OK, but software is awful.
The apps have lots of complaint, low rating.
I try to change settings, but it kept reverting to defaults.
