Anyone know if this headset is even good in terms of sound quality and comfort? I know it's $19, but to be honest I'd rather pay for instance $60 for an Arctis 3 which is very tried and tested than spend $19 on a roll of the dice. Anyone got any review from their own personal use?

      I have the same thoughts

Simply search online and you will find some reviews.

        • thanks for the link. it helped

Plantronics (the manufacturers of this headset) are decent. They certainly aren't no-name chinese drop shippers. I have a cheap set of Plantronics and have been very happy with them. They are a set I can let the kids use and I don't care how rough they are with them, but still good enough sound for me to enjoy.

I think for $19 (the price you'd expect to pay for crappy no-name Ebay imports), you'll be fine.

However I think comparing them against a well reviewed $60 pair of headphones is folly, and doomed for disappointment. If that's the standard you want, buy them for more than 3 times the price. It's unfair to compare them because they are vastly different in cost. Just note that these are open back (like a lot of the Plantronics sets are). Cheaper to manufacturer, less sweaty to wear and much less weight, but a lot of sound transfer to anyone nearby.

Here's a decent write up on them. https://www.windowscentral.com/plantronics-rig-300-headset-r…

        Cheaper to manufacturer

Not necessarily, just has different engineering requirements to consider.

        less sweaty to wear

That may come down to the earpads and clamp as much as anything.

        and much less weight

Only if the exact same materials were being used versus a closed back equivalent.

They certainly aren't no-name chinese drop shippers.

Given the sheer growth of quality audio brands and parts out what is the world's most significant manufacturing hub, I'm going to have to ask you to be more specific as this comment doesn't really come across as knowledgeable or respectful.

For the record, these were likely made in China, and Plantronics exited the consumer headset market in 2019.

    • We have a handful of these to use for comms at church, I think they're pretty comfortable and good for that at least. have a strange ring+speaker design with lots of open space between the ring and the speaker, but they fit nicely on larger ears like mine. In-line volume controls is useful for devices that don't have built-in volume control.

Yes been using them for 2 years. Sound is great but my wife told me that she can hear everything through them even when I'm wwearing them so they leak a lot of sound.

I somehow used my Perks voucher that expired yesterday with this, $9 with a gift card on top was worth a punt for my nephew

    • Based on the review, you have to ask your nephew to be careful of their fingers when using it.

Me too, thanks for the idea. This headset is definitely worth $9. Will keep in the drawer for when my current one breaks.

  • they are better than $19 - they aren't amazing, but definitely better than $19

  • And it's gone.

Edit: Switch version still up: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/rig-300-hc-stereo-gaming-…

    • Ordered 2 of this version!

    • and they be used with pc or PS4? or switch only?

      • It's got a 3.5mm jack. If you have a port to plug that in, it'll work.

      • Uses a single 4 pole connector so if your PC has separate mic and headphone jacks you'll need a splitter. Laptops typically have a combined port. Not sure what makes this Switch specific as I have seen it advertised elsewhere as being PC, Xbox, PS & Switch compatible.

        • There's always been headsets "for Xbox" and "for PS" with the only difference being green/blue. It's probably the same here. Companies can capitalise on the knowledge gaps of those buying them (eg parents for their kids).

  • One of my friends has had experience with this headset, it only lasted for just over a year, for $19 i’d say its good but its not the greatest headset.

    • If my kid got a year for $19 on a headset I'd be over the moon.

  • Bummer, wanted to get one for work to use with Teams

Anyone got a recommendation for a decent quality, cheap USB headset to be used for teams meetings?

If you're looking in the $50-$60 range, these are good (according to my 12yo)

He has a pair of the RIG 300 HC already.

I bought him these as an early Xmas present (and cause they were on Sale) and he loves them.

Had this a while. Great for that price.
Volume slider has got 'staticy' but otherwise works perfectly.
Edges are a bit sharp but I wouldn't be able to cut myself with it unless possibly if I wielded like an actual knife.

  • Link broken for me.

  • I think they are removed from the site, maybe sold out. Switch are still there

  • Can I use the switch version with PC?

  • Is the mike on this fixed or can it swivel out the way,?

    • Swivels

  • Just got a pair, there ok sound wise at low and med volumes but the bass and sound is muddy and terrible at high volumes. There ok i guess for a spare at $19

  • If you want a really good headset for a good price i’d recommend the sennheiser GSP300 and 600 series, they are amazing.
