“ Certain HP printers are intended to work only with cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip or electronic circuitry. These printers use dynamic security measures to block cartridges using a non-HP chip or electronic circuitry. Periodic firmware updates will maintain the effectiveness of these measures and block cartridges that previously worked. Reused HP chips and electronic circuitry enable the use of reused, remanufactured, and refilled cartridges.”

What an interesting way to try and call this a ‘feature’.

Yep and the automatic firmware upgrades always block generic toners… you have to buy the printer and remember to turn off all firmware updates ASAP since the genuine toners cost an arm and a leg

    • Could be worse - Epson inkjet printers don't let even let you use the scanner function when you've run out of one of the coloured inks (e.g. Cyan). And printing in B&W is time-limited when you've run out of coloured ink - even if you have heaps of B&W ink left…
