How is the Exynos in the Watch 5 compared to the SD 4100? Upgrade or downgrade?

  • Thanks mate! perfect timing

  • Can you stack any newsletter coupons etc with this? Thanks

    • I think for newsletter min spent is $350, if i am not wrong.

      • do you have any code available?

    • Yes, if you buy the 40mm cellular version which is above $350

      • Can also add more watch bands to make it to $350

    • By any chance do you have unclaimed code. Thx

  • Anyone got a spare $50 newsletter code?

    • Needs to be > $350 for the code to work. In which case you can get the 44mm for $300.

Oh, thanks for the info been looking to replace the aging original Galaxy Watch

Didn't realize while checking out, had nearly $250 worth of reward to use… ended up getting it for less than $250

hopefully, the battery lasts as per the review and lasts 2~3 days at least.

    • Battery lasts a day and a half for me. But i use it regularly for workouts etc and track my sleep.

    • +1

how do you get the rewards mate ?

      • through purchases, usually its $1 = 1 point, sometimes its 5x (atm for the watch series i believe) and other special times its 10x

  • Why does the pro say coming soon??? Tf

Bought cellular 40mm for $303.50 using newsletter coupon from EPP portal

    • i was looking for that but learned we can't use any MVNO or prepaid connection

      • What's a prepaid connection…oh no are you saying the sim has to be post-paid, got to be kidding me?

        • +1

I have a S10 (no eSim but has physical dual sims) and I am on Coles Mobile (Prepaid MVNO), so it seems that I can't use LTE part of Watch 5 even I get one. So ended up getting the Bluetooth only version

          Reference :

          https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/esim_wearables

Some wearable or companion devices like the Apple Watch and Samsung watches support eSIM, allowing the watch to work independently of a paired phone and make/receive calls, messages and use mobile data for things like maps, emails and more.

However, in most cases you can't install 'any' eSIM on a watch (via a QR code or app) ā€“ you must set up your watch eSIM on their paired phone, which installs a special eSIM that shares the mobile number of the paired phone.

You must also be on an eligible plan ā€“ which excludes prepaid, and some business/corporate plans. No Australian MVNOs support this feature.

As a result, you can't install an eSIM from a different carrier (eg, Telstra SIM on your iPhone, and use an Optus eSIM on a paired Apple Watch) on your watch, or have a separate number on your watch if your plan doesn't support number sharing.

It is marketed by Telstra as 'One Number', Optus as 'Number Share' and Vodafone as 'NumberSync'.

    • Yeah, I did too, is this a good price? How do you make use of the one with the SIM?

  • Anyone got a spare $50 newsletter code. Need to buy a product over $500. Thanks

    • It is against the rules to ask in the comments of threads. You can ask here

      • Sorry, dint know that.

  • Wishing I could cancel and return my 40mm Watch4 that I ordered two weeks ago and is currently on the other side of the country because Auspost is a shit show at the moment (item came from QLD, to SYD, to VIC, then within 45mins of the town I live in, before being redirected to WA!).

Serious issue with product & seller, battery issues

Was lasting under 15 hours with almost all tracking disabled, warranty said that's "normal"….

Isn't really a smart watch or fitness tracker when the battery only allows multidays use in clock-only dumb watch mode.

Negging because a lot think this issue was fixed with the 5 after the storm of the 4… It wasn't.

    • +2

Not sure why you are downvoted for sharing your experience. It may be a case of "mileage may vary", but it's helpful feedback.

      • Because it's either user error or a hardware fault and should be fixed via warranty. These watches last days not hours, especially with settings dialed down.

        • +1

I assume warranty issue (I hope, considering I disabled almost everything, followed the usual battery saving tips, etc), seller allowed me to return it in the end under consumer law but Samsung wasn't at all helpful and wasn't going to even consider warranty.

      • +2

Mileage on batteries shouldn't vary and if it does then warranty should cover this is my point.

I disabled all tracking except heart rate, didn't have extra apps and didn't use the device and still only got 15 hours. That's about as low as you can get usage without turning it into a normal watch where literal months of battery should be expected.

        • For the 40mm or 44mm?

          • @Shon: 40mm

Had a 44mm 4 prior to that and refunded it too, same issue. The 4 is known for the issue though

            • @Dyl: Are these LTE watches?

    • Yeah, I had heard about these issues when deciding on a smartwatch.

The Pixel Watch wasn't good enough for me and ultimately saw me switch to iOS and an Apple Watch Ultra.

      Oh how I miss Android.

      • Similar thoughts to this… Tempting to switch just for the higher accuracy.

Apparently you can set them up with a borrowed iPhone and use them in watch only mode, but you lose a lot of features

        • More accurate HR means nothing day to day for 99% of people. This is why most serious fitness tracking people use Garmins or other fitness brand and not apple watches.

          • @noise36: Huawei GT3 is more accurate if you're after HR accuracy. It's apparently one of the most accurate outside of the apple ones

The apples are actually quite accurate for heart rate on the higher end series, search (watch name) scientific review on YouTube, there's a series one guy does where he tests them against an accurate chest strap HR monitor

They essentially all suck for sleep accuracy, but some are pretty good for heart rate.

            • @Dyl: Quantified scientist, he does good work but take some of it , especially the sleep tracking, with a grain of salt. The sleep tracking is testing the correlation of the device to another device which itself isn't accurate compared to a lab test.

Was your galaxy watch 4 or 5 you were having battery issues with an LTE watch?

              • @noise36: It's not bullet proof, but gives an idea of things

From memory he doesn't use a Dreem headband (they're basically clinical level accuracy and now used clinically), but headbands in general are a lot more accurate than watches, as are chest straps for heart rate, etc.

It's consumer tech against consumer tech, but the comparison is how well it does against the most accurate consumer method of testing (ie chest strap vs watch) rather than the most accurate device

                • @Dyl: The Dreem headband isnt clinical level accuracy at all. According to the companies own tests its 80% accurate compared to a lab test, those results used for marketing the device, not verified independently as far as I am aware. Quantified scientist is just trusting their marketing basically, not very scientific. A company could get good "accuracy" results according to Quantified scientist by training their algorithm against the Dreem headband and not necessarily being that accurate compared to a lab test.

Using the HR chest strap is completely different as that is 99-100% accurate compared to lab equipment and tested independently. i.e. it can be used as a proxy for accuracy.

Can you answer my LTE question please?

    • I just did a second recharge on my 40 mm watch. My first one lasted 51 hours with 14% left. Admittedly I didn't wear it for the full 8-10 hours each day but I do have the location on and as it is I'm happy with its performance.

  • Where do you get .edu.au email from usually? School emails are education.vic.gov.au, for example. so they won't work.. right?

    • School emails are edu, My high school daugher had one.

Is this the best watch for monitoring heart rate, heart rhythm, blood pressure, oxygen levels and all the other health related stuff?

    • -3

No that's the Galaxy GP edition

  • did anyone get a newsletter code? I tried 4 emails already. LOL

    • Nope, I tried two emails and even ended up calling them. They give me a ticket reference for my "case" that I have also heard nothing on.

  • How long does Samsung usually take to deliver after placing an order?

    • Ordered on the 6th, and got it on the 9th.

  • Hey folks. Need some insight here.

I ordered a Watch 5 44mm LTE with a Navy Two Tone band (needed a S/M strap and Graphite wasn't available). Just received it today. There's a marginally crumpled Watch 5 box, but no strap. The seals on the box were (poorly) removed and reaffixed. They seem to have opened the box to swap the straps. Is this to be expected? The call centre didn't think so and want to order a replacement. That takes up to 10 days and they'll need the current to be returned before that happens. WTF! It's a Christmas gift, so delays are unacceptable. I have requested that they have a courier do the pickup (rather than an auspost return) and drop-off at the same time. They said they will pass that on to the "back office". Who the hell knows.

Anyway is this standard practice? Seems inane because it's badly done and renders the objective of the seals moot - i.e.: ensure integrity right thru to the consumer. Anyway wasted 1.5hrs across 2 chat and 1 call centre staffer. Pathetic.

    • Strange that it happened even if you bought directly from Samsung itself and not any re-seller.

      • Yep. Not sure what's going on and was wondering whether anyone else had a similar experience.

        • +1

I can confirm that I received a watch and no such issue so your experience seems to be an exception and must be reported. Hard to say if it was at Samsung's end or during courier's transition.

          • @virhlpool: Thanks for confirming. Will go ahead with the replacement. They promised a return label within 24hrs. It's 48hrs and ticking.

  • Need an EPP store code, tried to subscribe newsletter using multiple emails but received code on none :(
    please help

  • Was able to get jb hifi in store to pricematch this today for the 44mm LTE version

  • Is this still valid ? I am seeing a 20% only discount and not the one mentioned here. Am I doing something wrong?
