Android TV - Soniq 32" LED LCD HD Smart TV #348 @ JB Hi-Fi

20

I was looking at TV's from JB during EOFY sale - didn't have much. I suspected that things might get better after the EOFY sales, and….

Today is the first time I have seen this model advertised. Looks like a good price for a Smart TV - but we'll see how smart it is! Even without the smart function this is not too bad price for a 32inch LED LCD model - which is particularly what I want for the lower carbon footprint.

I rang my local Mt Ommaney store and Yewi assured me that despite what the website says this is actually full HD - 1080. The difference is not that relevant on a 32inch screen anyway. (Note the URL includes "fhd").

Not a lot of details on their website(s):
Model: E32S12A
81cm / 32 Inch
1366 x 768 Resolution
Built in HD Tuner
Built-In Smart TV Processor & Software
Web Browser

More detailed specs over the phone from Yewi include:
7 star energy rating — 160 kw per year

Ports:-
4 x USB
1 x SD card
3 x HDMI
1 x VGA
1 x Component in
1 x video in
1 x fibre optic digital audio out
1 x 3.5mm audio line out
1 x antenna

PVR to USB
Internet access is via an RJ45 port (unsure if USB options for this).
He was unsure of internet capacity but probably good for Facebook / YouTube and probably not good for iView.
To access web it has a qwerty keyboard on the reverse side of the remote.

1yr standard warranty with option for extra 2yrs for $69 (negotiable) - declined!

I will seek to confirm all these details in a few hours time when my other half arrives home with the new purchase!

    Cue the 100Hz & Full HD commentaries… :p

  • wonder if it could be used as a media centre, the LG LM series allows you to connect to network shares over the lan port as well… that would be pretty cool.

      From Naed's link:

      CPU: 700 MHz w/ FPU
32bit CPU and 64bit FPU. 3D GPU Hardware Engine support for 3D graphics
      Android Version: 2.2.1
Wireless LAN Adapter Support : Yes
      Digital TV support MPEG2/4/H.264 coding

I'd probably change the headline from "Smart TV" to "Android" and put it ahead of the LED LCD bit, as that seems like the second-most important fact (after the size)

  • Looks pretty good, Android 2.2.1 with flash…

  • damn, can't they make it FULL HD 1920 x 1080 and then sell a little bit more like $399 or $450??

hate it when I see a screen still uses 768!

    it's a good deal nonetheless!
    thanks for sharing!

    • Read his post man….says its FHD

The resolution is 1366 x 768, even though it is displayed as 1080p in store (I was in JB Chadston last night). My understanding of this is that while it may happily take the 1080p signal it just downscales to 720p to display it.

Has anyone used the Smart TV/Android features before and can give an insight into their usefulness? I'm inclined to get the aldi model and attach a HP Microserver for kitchen media/internet duties.
