  • Total Price is US$128.55 which is still cheap!

Didn't buy as I already have one, however I would go for the coiled one rather than the straight one(as the cord is 3m)

  • Funny, mine just arrived today from the last sale and I absolutely love them. They're built like a tank, completely solid and all the praise regarding sound quality are warranted. Definitely the most bang-for-your-buck <$200 headphones I've ever used and miles ahead of the likes of Beats HD.

Strange that you'd even mention Beats HD in the same sentence. It's like hamburgers to fine steak (not saying that these ones are great, but… Beats HD?).

      • Well, for better or worse (worse), the Beats headphones are by far the most popular non-stock bundled headphones around. The Solo HD model is about comparable to the M50s, if a bit more expensive and far inferior in actual quality.

        • Well if they're popular then they must sound amazing right? I mean, punk ass kids/hipsters/douchecanoes never buy things based purely on fashion or looks, do they?

That it, I'm selling my Grado's and switching to SkullCandy!

      • yeah but doesn't Beats HD have a Dr Dre affiliation. I can just see myself now holding a hand gun sideways with my pants half way down being all cool and stuff… of course I can't hear it cus I'm using Beats HD… lol

    • When did you place your order? Mine haven't arrived yet. Hope someone hasn't stolen them.

      • About the time when it was posted (it was on for a couple day), so probably same time as you. I do however, live in inner-Sydney so it might have arrived a bit sooner than some. I wouldn't fret just yet.

  • Just received mine in the mail today (from the previous deal), and its absolutely brilliant!

I'm not an expert, but everything seems balanced just right, with clear vocals & instrumentals and responsive bass (not overbearing or muddy (coughBeatsByDrecough)). Excellent all-rounder for listeners of different genres.

Only complaint is the long, non-detachable cable, which could make listening on-the-go a bit cumbersome.

Highly recommended, especially for the price!

If yours isn't coiled, you can try this :D

      http://www.head-fi.org/t/593066/diy-video-how-to-braid-long-…

      • Thanks for the link.

I'm fine with bunching it up in a tied-up loop, but will consider braiding it if it gets annoying.

        • That could make the cable quite heavy. Best option would probably be to trim the cable and solder on a new 3.5mm plug if you're handy with a soldering iron.

    • It has an option for removable cable and threaded connector?

      • He's already got his, so can't exactly sent them back and swap for a modded pair.

        • Very true, I'm wondering whether I should get the modified pair or not haha

      • +1

The removable cable option cost $30 extra; didn't think it was worth it at the time, but after actually seeing how long the cable is…

        • Lol, I thought of the same thing when I got mine. That's why I now keep the M50 for inhouse use. And got a pair of Sennheiser HD 25-1 II for portable.

        • which is better? (sound quality

        • Pretty close, with M50 narrowing ahead with an amp IMO, it really depends on the type of stuff you listen to. I'm no audiophile though.

Here's a comparison from Head-fi forum that may interest you.

M50: Smooth; laid back; dynamic; fairly neutral; scales really well with amping; well extended, but somewhat unnatural (metallic) highs; spacious, but somewhat cupped in soundstage; deep, punchy bass that needs some juice to tighten up, but regardless of source can sometimes get out of control and creep into the mids - doesn't happen often though; mediocre micro detail retrieval, but good separation; works best with bass oriented electronic music; not the best for vocals and real instruments; long burn in period ( at least 100 hours)

HD25-1: Excellent micro detail; great reproduction of vocals; good dynamics, a fairly neutral frequency response; bass is fairly tight, but lacks some definition and depth; highs are a bit peaky and slightly grainy, but well extended; doesn't scale as well with amp as M50, but amping it is still preferable; soundstage is small and closed in, but imaging is very nice and sharp; a good all arounder - works well with most music

  • which one is better? coiled or straight cable?

    • coiled

    • +2

depends on what you use it for. for listening to music/play games on computer then coiled. for TV then straight cable, it is a bit longer.

    • FYI, the straight is 3m as stated, and the coiled is roughly 1.4m without stretching the coil.

By way of comparison, these are $133.70 USD delivered from Amazon US. And they have them in stock now no need to wait.

    • Thanks, dude. Just placed an order with Amazon.

  • I've had these for years and can validate that the built and sound quality are excellent.

  • Just so you all know gadgetbliss.net having Australian stock and shipped for $135 — yeah it's more but no back order and support local (plus delivery is quicker)

  • Is there any difference between the LE and the standard version? (Other than appearance)

    • -2

yes. LE sounds a little bit better. but it doesn't mean that M50isn't good

    • Isn't LE just limited edition?

  • +2

yes its a paint job and nothing else

  • For LE and White version and Straight cable versions this link may be a better place to start at:

    http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/ATH-M50-…

  • I have had these headphones for almost 12 months now (coiled version) and absolutely love them. Most days I used them for about 8 hours per day so I definitely got used to them.

Comfortable, and after sooooo much use, the ear pad on one of them is starting to crack a little.

Highly recommended. Seriously better than any other headphones I've tried. (And yes, definitely better than Beats!!)

  • Boo, I paid $5 more last time. Maybe I should get one for myself.

  • +1

I got one last year and used everyday. I have a straight version which some head-fi.org forum users were recommended. The problem I think for the coil version you would get tire of hanging coil while you are walking or doing something. In case of a straight version, you can put the rest of cable in a given pouh. That's my two cents.

    Shipping & Handling: AUD 8.58
    Total Before Tax: AUD 135.22

Cheapest from amazon U$115 + A$8.58 couple weeks ago.

  • Bah, I have already bought a couple of pairs of headphones from the recent ozbargain mentions. I got the Meel as well as the Sennheiser Adidas one. How does this compare with them, if not that big a improvement then i suppose i shouldnt get my fourth pair (Plus i got the Meel earphones special…too many sets now).

  • Paid $165 for these locally just recently, great headphones.

  • anyone able to checkout with paypal?

    • nvm, works now.

  • Okay I'm confused, 2 questions:
    1. Are they better or worse than beats, lets say the HD's?
    2. Are they noise canceling?
    Thanks!

    • +1

The sound quality of these cans rip apart the Beats IMO. More accurate sound and much more solid bass.

      No it's not noise cancelling.

    • Considerably better than the HDs. And if you believe this guy

      http://youtu.be/et_PWifUd1w

They edge out the top-of-the-line Beats Pros as well. I haven't used Pros, but I believe him as Beats tend to just overpower everything with bass. The M50s have a much more balanced sound.

    • I don't think there's anything worse than Beats

  • Finally worked out that they are over-the-ear - are they big enough not to push on the ear and how comfortable are they. Thanks. Very tempted.

    • I find that these are very comfortable, so comfortable that you forget you're wearing them sometimes. At the start it did sort of hurt my head, but if you leave the headphones clamped around the box it comes in for a day or so, it's fine.

    • They go over the whole ear(unless you have a massive ear)

  • Hmm considering these. Anyone know how the warranty is? Is it international warranty ?

  • ended bought a M50 LE for around $153…

  • the shipping from US to Sydney is quite high - the cheap one cost $58.60 If someone bought from the website is it normal or can i get cheaper shipping cost?

    • Did you click on the drop down menu? The cheapest shipping option for me is $28.61 to Sydney, with no tracking.

  • Just place the order. Anyone knows how long it will take to ship to syd for $28 shipping?

  • what about warranty? would we have to ship it back to the US for repair?
