Receive a Full Refund on your End Of Life Swann INTCAM IP Camera @ Swann Au

232

For those who got the Swann camera from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/647913 you can now apply for a full refund as the product has reached end of life and will be no longer supported.

Your INTCAM was Swann’s first generation lithium cell battery camera and manufactured over five years ago. Lithium cell batteries degrade over time and we have been notified of some issues with INTCAMs’ battery when charging. Unfortunately, despite a number of attempts, the battery issue has not been able to be rectified to our satisfaction. As a result, we are writing to notify you that INTCAM has reached the end of its serviceable life and will no longer be able to charge or communicate with the Swann Security App after December 15, 2022. We understand that this may cause inconvenience and, as your camera is within its warranty period, we are offering you a refund or the ability to replace your camera with the latest Swann security products at a deeply discounted price. Thanks for your understanding. The Swann Team

If this isn't a targeted deal, I don't know what is

      • so every warranty claim should also be posted as a bargain then?

JV, post some deals yourself, would you

      • -3

All the bargains for 2022 have already been posted.

      • It's easier for them to justt leech off other contributing members of this site.

Apparently it was only 12 months warranty. But they say "We understand that this may cause inconvenience and, as your camera is within its warranty period, we are offering you a refund or" interesting to see how refund process going, EFT or visa Gift card or ??

Under Australian consumer law, you shouldn't be expected to replace your security cameras every 5 years.

please don't tell me wife that, I use this as an excuse to upgrade the cameras

  • Won't seem to let me upload proof of purchase have tried jpg, pdf, doc what format are others using?

    • Same, I tried more than 10 times. This is what I received.

    • I did a pdf of the email and worked from phone.

      • i just tried on mine did not work either.

    • don't think it's the format.. I think they ran out of space from 10bagillion eol requests

      {"failed":"Failed uploading file.","debug":"Out of memory space on account."}

    • Same for me

    OzPSA….oh wait.

  • If only DLink offered the same with their junk cameras :(

  • OP, Does this include purchases from retailers other than the deal you mentioned?

    • Try and see. No harm

      • I have. Cheers.

      • Swann confirmed they are going to send a couple of replacements. I wouldn't of known about this. Thanks OP!

      • Replacements arrived today. I wouldn't have known about this without your post OP. Thanks again!

So are they going to push an update to brick the charging? and stop it from communicating with the app?

    • I want to know this too, they say they haven't been able to solve "charging issues" but then say '"it won't connect to the site". What's that got to do with not charging? I have mine plugged in all the time anyway.

It does sound like they are neutering it for some reason, but why? How useful will this thing be in a few weeks? I use mine, and 40 or 60% off a new one isn't going to cut it

  • Only offering vouchers if outside 12months… seems bs

    • +1

How did you find that out?

I lodged a claim but haven't heard back

      • They emailed a response

        • Asked about replacement and said it was a mistake, they've made it right now

    • I'm outside 12 months and they are sending me replacements.

      • Same

      • Received a pair of replacements today.

  • Firmware literally updating now minutes after the courier dropped off my free replacement cameras. Hope there are two in the parcel.

Instead of opting for the refund I took up their offer for the newer model replacement

    • Please let us know. In the conversations with support, they only refer to one unit but I bought the two pack.

      • +2

Got two cameras. Charging them now. They look like refurbished ones. Not in a retail pack and no plastic covering them. One USB cable loose in the box.

        • Thanks for letting us know.

    Camera arrived today. Pretty average.

Old camera stopped working ages ago. Couldn't get it to connect.

Harvested some goodies from the old camera:
Pair of 18650 with leads attached
    8gb SanDisk micro SD card
    Neodymium magnet.

    To open the old camera:
Rip off the front black sticker around the camera lens
    Remove 4 screws
Remove white plastic surround sound camera lens

    Remove 2 screws.

Do not hit with a sledge hammer like I did. It's very tough and won't open

    • is the old camera totally useless or is it just the online part that will stop working (e.g. can you still use it over wifi?)

      • Nah it's completely useless.

Can be used as a dummy camera or tear it down for parts

        • What a waste, so there no hacks for this? No way to update firmware, anything?

          • @Jackson: Nope. It cannot be paired anymore

            • +1

@edrift: I have two paired and they re still working, I have one in the box tho. Had I know I would have paired it, if that was the only problem

How do I contact Swann?. I've done the website form and no reply. I sat on live chat for 6 hours and no reply.
I tried calling them and they said I have to contact them via the website form.

    • I also tried to contact them, I think they may have shut for the holidays. I contact them before xmas and a second time just now.

  • I think you were right about them being on holidays. I got a reply back from them and they are going to send a replacement camera.

  • I received the refund 2 days ago for two cameras which I bought on Kogan.
