6330

Well worth a listen.

Brought to you by Penguin.

THE PHENOMENAL INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER - 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD.

Transform your life with tiny changes in behaviour, starting now.

People think that when you want to change your life, you need to think big. But world-renowned habits expert James Clear has discovered another way. He knows that real change comes from the compound effect of hundreds of small decisions: doing two push-ups a day, waking up five minutes early, or holding a single short phone call.

He calls them atomic habits.

In this ground-breaking book, Clears reveals exactly how these minuscule changes can grow into such life-altering outcomes. He uncovers a handful of simple life hacks (the forgotten art of Habit Stacking, the unexpected power of the Two Minute Rule, or the trick to entering the Goldilocks Zone), and delves into cutting-edge psychology and neuroscience to explain why they matter. Along the way, he tells inspiring stories of Olympic gold medalists, leading CEOs, and distinguished scientists who have used the science of tiny habits to stay productive, motivated, and happy.

These small changes will have a revolutionary effect on your career, your relationships, and your life.

Enjoy!

Best atomic habit is to find shelter and keep clear off the blast.

    • Duck and cover under a classroom desk and you’re sweet.

        Oh yes I remember these…

Here is another good atomic habit:

        — In case of a nuclear strike, one needs to cover himself in a bed sheet and slowly crawl towards the cemetry.
        — But why slowly?
        — So that you do not cause panic in public.

Find shelter? Good idea. My friend, Indy, taught me to get in a fridge and everything will be just fine.

Doesn’t result to much if you are being productive with the wrong things so it’s best plan occasionally

You don't have to be productive every second of every day ; )

    Is there a TLDR version?

    • +17

When you do something good, the brain wants you to do it again. When you do it repeatedly, the brain pays less attention to that act every time until it is natural and performed with low brain power so the brain can think about other things.

When someone wakes up in the morning and has a cigarette, it makes them feel good. Eventually they do it regularly because the brain knows it results in good feelings. Do it so frequently that you aren't even conscious of it. You know just to wake up in the morning and have a cigarette, and do it while thinking about other things. Then, it has become an atomic habit.

Also you can use strategies to encourage or discourage the activity of your atomic habits.

coz we dont get reward for not doing it, at least not immediate reward that's why we keep doing it !!!

        • +1

Which, btw, was the original target of no fap. Just simply to not need to have the habit.

          Then the internet happened

      • +17

Thanks for that. I have now taken up smoking in the morning and am already feeling more productive.

      • You can also replace cigs with coffee, the most popular used drug in the world!

all i remember from reading it is to scaffold habits. eg do it routinely and link it to something. eg after dinner i will read.

How to form habits that stick
Set a schedule - > I will workout every Tuesday 12pm at my local gym
Habit stacking - > After I brush my teeth I will do 10 minutes of meditation
Alter your environment to make the cues of good habits obvious and visible -> keep a book beside your bed to trigger a cue to read

      • My habits stick…y
