  • Great deal for a mig, Just need the same on a Tig now :P

    • What metals are you looking to TIG? Steel only or are you looking to do aluminium?

      • Yep Aluminum but also Automotive pipes so would rather a cleaner weld as its all-thin wall 1mm

        • So you will need a TIG that can do ACDC. They don't tend to go on special every often as they are considered "specialised" tools and not beginner welders. Most of the time the best deal that they do is a power pack, where they throw in some consumables, gloves and a helmet.

From the dimensions, you would place the Unimig on the bottom.

Looks like the viper is better value with the accessories.

      • Yeah all the accessories are worth more than the $19 difference.

Just remember the limitations of such a low powered mig - will be maxed out for even for thin steel (eg 2mm wall tube) and maxed out the 20% duty cycle only allows welding 1min for 4min of cool down etc.

Their specification of 6mm steel is a bit optimistic, only way that is going to work at all is bevelled joins and multiple passes while still risking cold weld with no penetration.

Also sounds like it only takes 900g spools which are super expensive - around $15 vs $25 for a 5kg spool

    • I'm surprised this will be pushing the limits with 2mm steel. My stick welder is far below that amps for 2mm. Can you expect much more from a 10 plug?

      • +1

stick welders use much lower amps for the same weld. Better option of you can master it and want a cheap welder that will do thicker steel.

I don't really understand why people complain about duty cycle on cheap welders…Has anyone here ever done a continuous weld for 1 minute straight? I get it if you are a pro pipe welder it might happen. But for someone buying this, they are going to tack 1 second, reposition, tack 1 second reposition. Fillet weld 5 seconds, stop, check you haven't messed up, burn hole through workpiece, curse for 5 minutes, repeat. You just aren't going to hit the limit ever IHMO.

      • Im no pro welder but certainly have times where id be welding 9 mins out of 10.

Build frames etc out of 50mm tube and once its all tacked together its easy to just keep going.
Nothing worse than having to sit waiting for a welder to cool down and once you hit cut off temp once you tend to keep tripping it unless you walk away for half hr.
Iv got a 180amp unimig which generally has sufficient duty cycle but i have tripped it a few times (mostly on heavier steel 4-6mm and maxed out voltage)

Definitely can weld 6mm steel with this welder. I work for Cigweld and it was extensively tested.

  • I've been umming and aaring on this ROSSI 130Amp MIG Gas Gasless Welder for for $165.60 delivered (code EDSTAKE10)

    • That one needs a 15A power point though, can't plug it into standard power points like the one in this deal.

  • is this good for a first timer to learn on?

Please note I work for Cigweld. So take my advice how you want.

Yes. It is a great beginner welder as the quickset tech helps with dialing in all the parameters. I personally bought the 160 bigger unit as it has a little more grunt and also allows for stick welding.

But this 130 is great for a beginner as long as you are realistic with it. Welding in a DIY capacity, it will be perfect. But you shouldn't expect it to work in a professional setting where you are pushing it all day everyday.

      • @curtturtle Some cigweld ozb deals on Tig's would be nice :P

        • I will see what we can do. No promises.

          • @curtturtle: Deals are set by the retailers not us the manufacturer. But that being said I can give the feedback to our distributors that there is a want for a special on ACDC TIG machines.

@curtturtle: Awesome, completely understand for most DIY home jobs Mig just fits the bill.
Heck the guy down the street from me has been using arc for the past 50years and the welds are fairly nice!
