  • The 4k uses usb-c, can you get an adapter to convert back to regular usb?

    • -5

      USB c is “regular” usb.

      • +7

Tell that to PC and motherboard manufacturers who consider it a "premium" feature for their pricier models. Especially if you want multiple ports.

USB-A isn't going away for a long time.

    • FYI the 4K cams cable is usb-c to usb-a as far as I know. Usb-c into the cam, usb-a into your device.

    • +1

I have this Webcam. It's usb c plug to the camera, and usb a to the pc. Unless they've changed it, that's what mine is.

      • yup, have this cam too, plugs back to USB A

Keep getting tempted by this, then remember that most of the people I video call for work have shit Internet or poor wifi coverage to their home office. Not much point streaming in 4K then.

    • +2

Yeah, only reason I'd get this is to use Windows hello

Time to start an onlyfans account.

2022 has had more than enough suffering already. No-one needs me to add to that with 4k video of my hairy sack!

  • +1

    Cheers OP, bought two :-)

Now showing as OOS, saving me $152.

Truth be told, I already own a Brio 4K and was just contemplating a secondary/backup. I was tempted to pull the trigger earlier at $199, however at $152 it's a no brainer for a fantastic webcam.

        • What about the Logitech BRIO 500?
          Brio 4K is better?

          • @congo: Can't speak from personal experience with the Brio 500 as it's a new(er) product that I've never used, but it certainly sits below the 4K. I've had my Brio 4K since June 2020 and it's been brilliant. From the moment I started using it on my work calls, the difference in video quality (as perceived by others on the call) was night and day, even when compared to other after market webcams in use. Having said that, I'd say it's overkill for most. But at $152, it's a steal.

            • @CamM: I find the quality of the Brio 4K for zoom recording not so great.
Wonder if the Facecam would be better?

              • @congo: Don't forget that Zoom is unlikely to be streaming you at 4K and is more likely to just be 1080p. Facecam is supposed to be a pretty good piece of kit as well but will likely have the same limitations via Zoom.

                • @CamM: Monitor is 4K but the video is probably 1080p upscaled to 4K, which is a pity.
So I guess I am after the best 1080p webcam.

              • @congo: I’ve switched from Brio to Facecam. The quality is definitely much better. The 4K on the Brio is less detailed than the 1080p on Facecam!

Logitech’s softwares have been pretty bad on the m1 macs!

Any web cams will require decent light. Soo fix that first before running off switching to another camera.

                • @xenoic: Thanks I will give Facecam a go.
I have several white downlights, but I should probably buy some more lighting. Thanks!

                • @xenoic: "Logitech’s softwares have been pretty bad on the m1 macs!"

Elgato's great software is also what you are paying for with Elgato.

"Any web cams will require decent light."

Not just decent light, but to improve things you need to correct the exposure. All lower price webcams benefit from correcting the exposure since the built in auto exposure does not do a good job. They always tend to blow highlights out.
Most simple way I explain having correct exposure to others is to just hold up a white piece of paper in frame and then turn off auto exposure in the settings which will fix exposure at the correct place.

If I remember right even the Elgato Facecam benefits slightly from correcting the exposure as well.

                  • @harshbdmmaster718: In the Brio software, I have everything set to "auto".
Are you saying that we should set the auto exposure to "off" ?

                    • +1

@congo: Yes if you want best image quality for the lighting setup you have, hold up a blank piece of white paper within frame and while doing that set the auto exposure to off.
That will give you perfect exposure for the lighting setup you have. When you turn auto exposure off, you are essentially fixing the exposure level at that point.

Keep in mind this doesn't work over long periods such as many hours if you have changing lighting such as relying mostly on natural light from a window etc.

                  • @harshbdmmaster718: The main reason for me to ditch the Brio was the Logitune was a complete garbage. Its auto settings are horrible and I always need to override it every damn time before the meeting.

Elgato however saves your setting onto the webcam itself. So the next time you run it, it’ll be there without using the software at all.

Besides the s/w, the 1080p on the Facecam is such an upgrade. You’ll need to tweak the exposure/iso setting to get it right, then it’ll be forever good.

                    • +1

@xenoic: Yeah, got the Facecam today, the default setting for shutter is very low.
It is much better after tweaking some of the settings. Maybe slightly better (sharper) than the Brio 4K.

              • @congo: Elgato Facecam 100%. The price of Facecam hasn't come down as low as this Brio 4K deal though.

  • Not sure how this compares, Razer Kiyo Pro at $155.00

    • I've been very happy with my Kiyo Pro. Main downside I've seen compared to the Brio is the lack of support for Windows Hello.

  • +4

I bought this a week ago for $150 and the camera quality is really quite disappointing. Even after downloading Logitech's Tune software the quality still didn't even come close to connecting a smartphone using one of many available phone-webcam apps. (I was using a Pixel 6 Pro).

Colours are washed out, and there is a lot of grain even in a very well lit room.

Windows hello feature seems to work well, however since I like to use the privacy cover while the camera is not in use I find myself never using the feature since it's quicker to log in with a password.

    • Thanks for sharing. I’ve ordered an elgato after having same thoughts (of my phone cam beating it hands down) but then there is the convenience factor. Let’s see. Ordered knowing I might be onselling it if I can’t live with the quality..

  • $150+ for a webcam.

No wonder why monthly subscription to ‘Chelsea’ is costly.

  • is 4k good for meeting?

    • no difference for regular meeting, but good for TikTok money making

    • Zoom doesn't support 4K video. Not sure about Teams.

      • Team does not support 4k

        • Teams downsampling is much worst than Zoom. You’ll be lucky if it gets 720p on the other end.
