0.9m seems standard. It's not an extention cord.
good for travelling! just bring one converter!
Xiaomi power strip is the king of travel power boards
that is a reverse use case.
this is for carrying your australian devices (imagine phone fast charger, hairdryer, laptop) all connected to this one powerboard and then just use one adapter.
@meong: The xiaomi can accept all those too remember …
@dufflover: But the plug that is connected to the wall needs to be converted. I think you still don't understand what my use case.
You don't need a powerboard as expensive as Xiaomi to bring your AU plug devices. Just get a cheap and short powerboard like this HPM and convert ONLY one plug.
@meong: The Kmart Arlec is cheaper if I remember correctly.
@jkim: I wasn't talking about the cheapest solution available.
I was talking about no need to get an expensive powerboard (Xiaomi) with multiple plug options on the board if in the end you still need to bring another travel adapter to convert the part where the powerboard connects into the wall.
Also, great use of negative vote there.
@meong: I used a neg because I don't believe this to be a deal. Your entire argument of this being a deal is "it's cheap, no need for expensive board" doesn't fly when there's something cheaper that meets AS standards. If it's for its own merit, then it needs to be cheaper than normal for it to be a deal. Neither elements were demonstrated, hence not a deal.
@jkim: I think you're arguing to the wrong person and the wrong topic.
The deal is for HPM brand.
Just because a car meets all Aus safety standard doesn't mean you neg a BMW deal if Toyota can be had for cheaper.
Do you even know how much the Xiaomi is? You do realise you are recommending something cheaper and that is exactly what i've been trying convey to @dufflover
So your argument of using Kmart Arlec brand should have been directed to him who is recommending a $20+ powerboard + a travel adapter instead of a $4-$6 powerboard + a travel adapter.
Read the thread again.
@meong: I think you're confused.
Yes, I know it's the HPM brand.
Argument against Xiaomi. This argument is the same as the one I raised about Arlec. i.e. "it's cheaper so…"
On its own merit. Then what needs to be demonstrated is its own price reduction vs the "common" price for the SAME product.
This post doesn't fulfil either criteria for it to be a deal, hence not a deal.
If the HPM was "normally $6" but "now $4", then it would be a deal on criterion 2, and no one would even need to mention the Xiaomi.
@jkim: Dude, you're the confused one.
I didn't bring the Xiaomi into this thread.
Read this thread again from the beginning.
I feel like i'm talking to a wall here.
@meong: Nope. You are very confused.
1. Is it cheaper than it was (Same for same)? No? Then how is it a deal?
2. Is it the cheapest for a given use case? (you mentioned travel - Arlec vs HPM vs Xiaomi) No? Then how is it a deal?
You need to be able to explain how it is a deal for it to be a deal.
Otherwise, it's just OzRRP, not OzBargain.
I know OzRRP has become rather common since crypto boom with GPU prices, but come on…
It's on the onus of the people saying it's a deal to prove it's a deal.
If you post that the same product is more expensive at other stores and cheaper at this particular store, or if you post that this product was $x, but is now $y, then I'll retract my neg. Otherwise, I stand by it, given it's NOT the cheapest in a given category.
By the way, I'm not arguing for or against the Xiaomi.
I'm arguing against this entire post being a "deal", and hence the people defending this non-"deal", unless there's some info that no one has bothered to mention - i.e. "normally $x", or "generally $x at other stores" - aka arguing in favour of my neg.
@jkim: I have nothing else to say to you.
I have explained the above. I didn't bring the xiaomi into this discussion.
Let me know when the 20-way boards with wide transformer sockets are on sale. https://www.amazon.com.au/HPM-Outlet-Surge-Protected-Powerbo… 4-way boards just don't have enough utility for me.
You have a cush farm or some shit? seems impractical having 20 socket boards
20 is definite overkill - and at that point you’re probably better of splitting 10 between two wall sockets.
Having said that, the 12 socket they linked would be a godsend for a pc gaming set up. I’ve got 8 currently and still need second unless I like swapping plugs around depending what I’m doing, I’m hardly a power user either!
I’d love a power board that is about 2m long with sockets every say 10-15cm. Not to be able to have a crapload of things plugged in, but so I can mount it under the desk, and I’ll have a socket close to everywhere that I might need one. Something like this but with aussie plugs: https://kmc.co/products/workshop-power-strip-12
Arlec make one (4 way) with an power cord to a single outlet, then some more cable, then another single outlet …… and repeat. The current ones seem to be individually switched. The old ones had a smaller unswitched plug outlet, and were also available in 6 outlets. https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-4m-extension-lead-with-4-p…
Bugger, the "20" was a typo. I initially typed 10-way while I double-checked on Amazon. Came back to edit the zero to a 2, but selected the 1 and changed that to a 2 instead.
I don't have any problems filling a 12-way board with various desktop and networking devices. e.g. desktop computer, monitor, table lamp, modem, router, NAS, ethernet switch, UPS, amplifier, battery chargers, etc, etc.
go kmart they are way better!
Probably same quality tbh but they're cheaper: $2.75/$5 for 4/6 outlet at Kmart vs $4/$6.38 at Amazon.
I don't trust anything electrical from Kmart. Woke up in the middle of the night to one of their usb chargers smoking.
Yep bought an iPhone charger cable from there and the cable started heating up
Unsure how the click brand compares to hpm, but 4 plug click power board is $2.74 @ Bunnings.

I got a few at Bunnings recently for $2.74

What I like about the HPM one is that the cable from the wall plug is side on. That way if a wall socket is behind furniture, it wont stick out as much as you can push it against the wall closer.
Wire is of Very small length
