That is Android Auto for Phone screens. This is what you use when your car does not have Android Auto embedded (or Apple Car Play which is the iPhone alternative)
What is Deal is about is connecting to car embedded Android Auto via Wifi instead of USB cable. So exactly what you thought it is. Except this is for Android Auto only, not for Apple Car Play which is a different system.

Great device. I have been using it seamlessly with my previous Pixel 6 Pro now 7 Pro.
I have one and it works great, connects very fast and is very reliable. The only issue I have found is that it disconnects when I drive through the same spot every day, and I believe it has something to do with interference with traffic monitoring equipment on the Monash Fwy.
Is this the unit that allows viewing netflix etc on the head unit?
Yes I know it's not ok while driving..
It just lets you use Android Auto wirelessly. I don't see how that would include watching Netflix.
