These are my go to tyres as they have the best feel for me grip/handling wise and good fuel economy too. I have had 2 sets now they have lasted about 35-40k km at 37psi 215/60/16 size.

    • +10

that's not great life for a modern tyre

      • What do you mean? 37psi is too high?

        • It's not too high, most likely jugga drives 20kms under the limit.

It all depends on weight and driving style, the more aggressive you drive the quicker the tyre warms up and air expands in the tyre which adds psi to tyres.

Most drivers should drive on 35 psi normal driving. imo, as the gauge will be off at the servos by 1-2 psi.

37-40psi if you drive like an 80 yo person.

      • +2

It is at the grip level of these, in the wet, and the fact they come up on special every year. Quiet, too.

      • +13

These aren't go-forever econotyres. 40k km out of any sort of 'sport' tyre is pretty damn good.

        • True that - so many factors involved but I would think that 45k-50k would be a better mark given modern tyre tech. Back in the day my Yokohamas would last 22K at best but that's with a few track days. And anything is better than a motobike tyre. My Battax front would go about 8K and the rear 12K. And they are not cheap

          • @freesteakknives: I once had street legal semi slicks on a 200rwkw silvia. I read about 50k out of a set of tyres and giggle softly.

    • I got 68000 km out of a set of Sport Maxx RTs
The Fm800 should get 50,000 km at least.

      • +2

If you're driving a mitsubishi colt maybe

    • which ones?

    No 265/40/21 for me
Mycar tyres are unreachable via Web or phone
    Wasted 2 hours

      21's, humble brag

    • +2

go into a store. in and out in 5mins.

      • Exactly! I got my wife to do this also. She gave me a link to pay then I had to wait in the queue for over an hour to hand them money.

    • Price match with Jax

    • Even when you get through on the web the tyres are not available at store. (i have the same size tyres)
I just went into my local (MyCar) and ordered through the store

  • Thoughts on these compared to the Dunlop Direzza DZ102 which are similar price at my local joint?

    • +1

I have one of each! I'd definitely be getting the Direzzas, unless you do really big miles.

      • Called up and they just sold out on the Direzzas :(
FM800s are booked in, just hope they get honoured.

  • this seems to be a very good deal, placed my order with tyroola last night, kinda regretting it now..

  • +1

Comparing apples and oranges. One is a top tier premium brand and the other is mid tier budget brand.

If the prices are close then Pirelli is a no brainer.

    • +2

you mean dunlop is budget brand?

      • I think Margin is talking about Pirelli

      • +1

Dunlop probably is decent for tyres but everything else with their brand is cheap and nasty. Thinking of Dunlop shoes and rackets.

        • Exactly, i saw a independent extensive roadtest of Pirelli vs Dunlop motorcycle tyres and Dunlop came out on top.

Personally i think they are fairly comparible for car tyres.

        • rackets can be nasty, raquets on the other hand…

      • Obviously :)

  • Thanks for sharing this. Was going to head over to my car and this saved me a trip (☞゚ヮ゚)☞

  • +1

Good year is 50% offer too..

    • Yup, got 4. No hassles like mycar.

      • But seems like prices are jacked up a lot.. still better price..

    • +1

Thanks I’ve added to the description

  • 225/60R17 only 25% off

    • Look at winruns they cheap af and very good especially in the wet, I'm on second set and swear by them. They should be around $80 a pop on tyroola

  • -1

My existing tyres are 205/65R15, but I was recommended 205/65R16. Not sure if the new ones are compatible.

    • +5

Thats a completely different size wheel (15" vs 16") - that wouldnt work unless you changed your wheels to 16" as well.

    • +1

Uh that won't fit as your rim size is 15 inch….the recommended tyre is 16inch. Who recommended?

You can play around with the first 2 numbers with minimal Speedo impacts but last number must stay constant as unless you change the wheel…you cant go up or down a size

    • +1

Thanks for the comments. Will choose the R15 then.

  • i have 225/60/R17 on my Nissan xtrial. Can I put 225/65/R17 on?

    • +1

Yes. Speedo error would be less than 2%

    • +1

      Bookmark this, very useful site
      https://tiresize.com/comparison/

At 100KM/h will have 3KM/h difference

      • Thanks for the site.

I've got a Mazda CX-7 and all of the "recommended" tyres on these websites is 215/70/R17.

I called Jax re: the Pirelli price match offer, and they said I'd be fine if I went with 225/65/R17. After hearing the price ($575 for a set inc wheel alignment) I paid for and booked it in, not wanting to miss out.

Now I'm concerned I've stuff up. I'm fine with the speedo being a touch off - but there is absolutely no issue with safety in getting a slightly different width?

        • +1

Your car will be 99km/h when reading 100km/h, which is negligible.
Your wheel can also take wider tyres too, from 215 to 225 should be no problem at all.

          • @timliu1996: Thanks heaps for the reply, buyer regret gone, now much more at ease with the decision.

    • Yes it honestly won't make a difference, my car had 17's from factory. I put 18's and speedo is spot on

  • +6

I have these on a suzuki swift as I read that they had fantastic wet weather grip. Being in melb, thats relevant 80 percent of the time.

I do a lot of research, testing and review shopping for things like this, and they just kept coming up time and time again as leading near the front of the pack in actual results. And yet strangely a bit of a dark horse on the market.

Was happy with then immediately but once they scrubbed in, holy shit. Swift pulls some G's now. Absolute go cart. The front will turn in so hard the rear can step out now if not managed. On rails.

You pay for it in overall life, but I absolutely dont much care if lifetime is a compromise. They're comfy, quiet, and grip grip grip. See specials on them often.

  • the price on the website already 50% off or not yet? because it doesn't look cheap at all if it is the price already discounted

    • Discount is applied at checkout

  • Is the listed price already 50% off?

For the Dunlop SP Sport LM705 205/65R15 94H, the listed price is $129, which is more expensive than Tyroola at only $106

    https://www.bobjane.com.au/a/205-65r15-tyres/dunlop/dunlop-s…
    vs
    https://www.tyroola.com.au/dunlop-sp-sport-lm705-20565r15-94…

I tried to add the item to the cart and went to check out but couldn't find any coupon or automatic discount.

    • +1

Those aren't the FM800 model clearly stated in the deal title.

      • +1

        Here you go:

1 - Overpriced with their still overpriced 50% reduced price Bob Jane - https://www.bobjane.com.au/a/245-40r18-tyres/dunlop/dunlop-s…
        $258

        2- Tyroola https://www.tyroola.com.au/dunlop-sp-sport-fm800-24540r18-97…
        $187

With their 50% off, you're still paying $71 (30%) more each with the good ol' Bob. Whilst there getting your tyres fitted, they will inform you that your brakes will be shot, need wipers, engine … etc to make up for their slack

        • +3

I've already said it about 5 times in this post but prices are pre-discount

          Bob Jane: $258 x 4 x 50% = $516 fitted

          Tyroola: $178 x 3 = $534 + ~$100 fitting = $634 fitted

Not hard to ignore the attempted up-sells

          • @ScottEh: Not everyone is not after 4 tyres.

            • @vinni9284: If you didn't realise, the deal is for four tyres only. If it wasn't then your comment still makes no sense, BJ would be cheaper if it was 50% off any single tyre ($129 fitted vs ~$200 fitted). Since it isn't, then of course Tyroola is cheaper, as Bob Jane doesn't have any deals on single tyres today and Tyroola is generally cheaper day to day.

  • -2

Do these only come in poor people sizes?

    • Humble brag re: FIRE sizes :P

  • $418 for four 205/60/16. That's not bad at all.

I used to run Dunlop SP1 tyres on my Lexus LS400 around 15 years ago. They're good tyres.

    • $480 for Pirelli equivalent at MyCar.

  • Price matched the mycar deal with jax tyres and got them fitted on the same day

    • how did you do that?
Hard to get a quote from mydeal atm

      • I had a screenshot in hand since I wasn’t able to add anything to the cart in mycar but the guy at jax didn’t check it since he wasn’t able to get into the website anyways.

  • Bob Jane is working well with Dunlop and others on sale.

  • Dunlop SP Sport FM800 195/60R15 88V for $350 —- SOLD

    • 185/60/15 are $384 wtf lol

  • +1

    Prices seem pre-jacked

    • +1

Yes, they definitely are. Dunlop Sport FM800 205/60/16 92H allegedly sells for $208 and is on sale for $104.

$104 is still a bargain, but you can get that tyre all day every day for under $150. So the saving is more like 10-20% than the claimed 50%.

  • Do people only change 2 tyres at a time? Rotate the backs to the front and new ones to the back? Or just buy 4? Thanks

    • Maybe. I run performance tyres on the rear and budgets on the front mostly, so tread wear is uneven.
Average person will run 4 tyres of the same profile and can get away with rotating. I can't rotate mine as rears are directional and my rear rims don't clear my front brakes.

      • Nice car. GWS204?
I run performance on the front and cheapies on the back, I've heard that generally sliding out the rear end is better than sliding the front end. Not that it's an issue with the over protective traction control on the Crowns lol

  • +1

Good deal if you're tyred of trying to load the mycar website.

  • Meh, no 245/35/19s

  • Put a set on my daughters Bora, she didn't crash
    .

  • Thanks man. This took 2mins to buy without any hassle.

  • The best deal I can get for my car is a Weber Baby Q. Seems like a good deal if need for BBQ

  • I have a 1/10 Tamiya TT-02 will these fit?

  • Stupid Q. Does this include fitting?

    • Tyre prices include fitting, standard balance, valves and tyre disposal

  • Almost went for these last week at buy 3 get 1 free. Thanks for the heads up OP!

  • does this include fitting

    • +2

Tyre prices include fitting, standard balance, valves and tyre disposal

  • +2

    Can probably add to OP:
    - Prices on website are pre-discount. Discount applied at checkout
    - Tyre prices include fitting, standard balance, valves and tyre disposal
    - Doesn't include wheel alignment. Can add from $69 (standard passenger)

    • +1

      Done thanks @ScottEh

  • Looks like I am only getting the discount if I add 4 tyres. Initially worked for 2 but then it updated when I tried to checkout. Is Anyone else having the same issue?

    • same issue

      • I believe they've updated their terms, it now says 4x.

  • Nothing for 225/35/R19 unfortunately. Good deal just not for me.

  • +1

Ordered - much easier than the MyCar BS thanks OP

  • +1

Which is better? FM800 or Pirelli Cinturato P7

    • +1

I bought P7s after a set of these and hated them. These feel a lot better to drive.

      • Thanks for sharing mate!

  • It doesn't have the size of my car tyres

    225/45R18 95W

I suppose I have to stick with factory fitted tyre sizes, right?

  • Anything for 215/50r17

  • Thanks for this, perfectly suitable for run around car and good price, easy purchase!

  • I was trying to find 315/35R20 with this deal. Can't find them.

My car has staggered tyres, and I only need to replace the rears. Don't want garbage. Pirelli's at 1/2 price would've been great. Ach. wel.

Spent HOURS on mycar site. I even logged in at 12.05am this morning, but it wasn't applying the discounted prices.
Bug in their site meant my cart didn't work so waited again, and all Pirelli's had sold out FFS.

    • You need to order direct.

I went in store to order my Pirelli. Even pre sale they didn’t have the stock online but can order it in (and pay the discounted price when installed)

  • Hi, my partner had flat tyre yesterday and he need to get 1 new tyre.. is there any deal for get just 1 tyre or looks like all deal for get 4 tyre..
