Oooof here's hoping stock holds til 4pm

    • +2

Order one now. And if still in stock at 4pm, cancel and re-order.

      • +1

Just did this, assume there will be something else popping up between now and 4pm anyway!

      • Cheers went this route with GC's and glad for it!

Dang it, want to sell my 5900x and move to this for the 1% lows. I dont stream or do productivity. Got the 12 core originally just for future proofing.

    • Same with me when i got my 3900x, but since all 99% of my time is gaming, going to jump on the 5800x3d as the last hurrah for my x570

    • +1

Same boat w 5900X & made the purchase, figured could also sell the 5900X now while it still holds some value

    • This did this when it dropped to 549 a few weeks back
      1% defintely improved heaps

  • +1

    Knew I should have waited…………

  • Hey! How do you know between 4pm-6pm there is a 15% cashback reward? I just signed up and couldn't find anything on the cashrewards site

      • Oh damn, could also pair this deal with the Aldi Amazon gift cards that are 10% off

      • Just be mindful, now it says temporarily OOS, not sure how soon Amazon can fulfill this, Cashrewards terms says :-

Pre-orders are eligible for cashback only if the item is scheduled to be shipped within 60 days of purchase.

This a good upgrade for gaming? I'm on a 3600 with a RTX 3060 TI. I always like to tinker with settings.

    • Yes, it is a very good upgrade. What motherboard do you have though? Make sure it's compatible with the 5800x3D. At a bare minimum you will need to update your BIOS.

      • X570 Tomahawk. That work?

        • Yes, it will work. Just a BIOS update is required.

  • +1

    Do Amazon include uncharted?

  • Just bought this, but considering the 5900x instead for future proofing and returning my pccg order for the 5800x3D. Does the 12 cores and higher clocks+ over clockabiltiy not outweigh the gains made in gaming? Bit torn between the two.

    • +2

Depends on use case. Hands down this wins in gaming. Source: I went from 5900x to 5800x3d.

Not really such a thing as 'future proofing'. Just buy the best performing parts for what you need it to do and within your budget.

      • Hey what games do you play and how much extra % would you say you got? Considering doing the same swap.

        • My main time sink game is War Thunder which is noticeably smoother, but I play anything from Far Cry to, FPS to Sim games and the list goes on. I did do testing on a few games when I did the swap, but can't remember the percentage, it was very noticeable though particularly in 0.1 and 1% lows.

The 5900x for the most part is on par with the 5800x in gaming, so I'd recommend checking out comparisons between 5800x and 5800x3d as they are easier to find. Pretty sure Hardware Unboxed has a good one.

I don't regret the switch at all, but I'd be doing it before the value of your 5900x drops so you can recoup a fair amount by selling it.

    • +2

Can't really future proof on am4, it's at eol, all you can hope for is that it holds up as long as possible.
If you want long term future proofing you probably want to look at am5 as that should have a few years of support with upgrades along the way.
5900x is better thank the 5800X3D for everything outside of gaming but I think the X3D gaming advantage is greater than the 5900x's workload and multithread advantage

  • Anyone recommend a thermal paste for this?…remembering this is Ozbargain lol
    Thanks

    • +3

      Toothpaste.

      • +2

Thanks. Will Colgate triple action do?

        • +2

          9/10 dentists recommend it

          • @leSheep: thats why that 1 dentist couldnt show his face on television

    • +2

Gelidd GC extreme is a solid bang for buck paste and my go to.

      • Thanks for that.

I notice they sell pads as well.
Do you know if there are any pros or cons with the pads or are they recommended for a different application?

        • +1

The pads are used for the VRM, people usually only get them when its time to service your GPU (repaste/repad).
If you want to use a thermal pad for CPU, you'll have better results getting a specialized solution like the IC graphite pads (significantly higher thermal conductivity).

Only advantage to using thermal pads is their day 0 performance will be the exact same as a decade after application, and you could reuse the pad. The latter point is moot since the graphite pads are thin enough that you can easily micro-tear them if you do the usual 'twist then pull' motion when removing cpu coolers. It's not worth it imo unless you're applying it on a homeserver or HTPC; eg the builds that you will rarely upgrade/touch once it's operational.

          • @loodealie: Thanks a lot for that info. Good to know.

I'll just go for the paste then. Hopefully 1g will be enough for this CPU which my research says it should be.

Current 3900x vs buying a 5800X3D - been fighting this mental struggle since the 5800X3D was released. Helppppppppp

    • +1

I finally pulled the trigger on this going from a 3900xt. I mostly flight sim in VR so that's my excuse. Good luck with your decision.

    • What do you spend most of your time doing on your computer, and what percentage gain would you get with the 5800X3D? I've thought about it as well but the jump isn't big enough for the things I care about to make it worthwhile.

If you'd want to stay on the same mobo for a long time though, the 5800X3D is the best AM4 CPU for gaming that will ever exist

  • +1

Rushed down to my local Aldi to get some Amazon gift cards lol

  • i dont need this. i dont need this.

  • +2

Come onnnn where’s the 5600 deals!!?

    • On the 2nd hand market!

  • Man… I got a 5800x not too long ago and I love it.

But it irks me knowing I could buy this. There’ll be no real world difference, but in my heart I know, it could be better 😀

    • +1

Makes a difference in games, take a step back in some productivity tasks due to lower clock

    • +1

do dips in fps annoy you? do you want a smooth experience? then the 5800x3d matters.

  • my 1440p monitors arrived today, was previously using 1080p monitors. currently running a 5600x + 6600xt, wondering whether the 5800x3d will boost my fps in warzone.

    • +1

Unlikely (although might help 1% lows). Your GPU is most likely what's holding back higher fps, not your CPU

    • +1

Warzone is the one game where CPU is very important, though with only a 6600xt and running at 1440p, an upgrade to the 5800X3D wouldn't give you as much of a boost as shown in this benchmark video: https://youtu.be/81kAorV30Vc?t=263

      • great, thanks for the replies! seems like i need a new gpu haha

  • +1

Damnit Black Friday week is burning a hole in my wallet.

No joke, where's my damn discounted 6800/6900 XT at?

      • +2

        Not buying a CPU unless I can get a GPU first… 😡😂🤢😡

  • +4

    Its OOS?

    • Dang
