Good price, but apparently this earphone is more for 'bass-heads'.

    • Everyone's got an opinion. Mine, it's not… And, imperfect seal always diminishes bass anyway.

      • Does that mean when you have an imperfect seal others hear your bass instead ¿

  • Currently have the Moondrop Chus which seem to be the budget king at the moment.

Wasn't able to see the Truthears on Crinacle's ranking list?

Maybe he doesn't rank his collab products due to conflict of interest. Not sure

    • +4

He doesn't rank his own collaborations, and this didn't have an original model to list.

It's solid value, but you have to like the Harman in-ear target (most don't, and will have less happening in the upper mids), and the treble technical performance and sub-bass quantity aren't ideal for most people in most use cases given the price.

The Chu has quickly been dethroned by the Salnotes Zero, and it's probably worth grabbing the Moondrop Aria Snow instead at $90 instead of the Truthear Zero, or maybe the Tin T3 Plus in the $70-$80 range from AliE. There's also the Final Audio E3000 for a more laid back sound, especially if you can get it when on Amazon sale for like $30.

Next year will see a lot of solid $100-$120 planar IEM offerings, as well as the rise of MEMS driver-based IEMs, which will completely shake up the entire IEM market.

I'd been eyeing the Moondrop arias. Might hold off until next year and buy something in the 100-150 range.

        Thanks for the write-up!

IMO Salnotes Zero is better at that price

    • couple cheap IEM down the line, you realise you could have had a very nice pair and be done with it……

    • Wasn't able to see the Truthears on Crinacle's ranking list?

Yes, it's not on Crinacle's list,
but the Truthear X Crinacle Zero became really popular
after Amir @ ASR recommended it.

Honestly that's just a wonderful demonstration that FR and tone/signal measurements aren't everything. Failed to properly capture that the 2DD crossover would have issues, and that the Harman in-ear curve sucks (and their subsidiaries agree).

        • I never understand these FR curves, nor get into the science of it all,
and use my ears to be the judge, by blind-purchasing IEMs, haha.

So far, enjoying IEMs (Moondrop Blessing) much more than my open-backs (Focal Clear),
so much so that I'm now curious to try the Moondrop S8 (according to Crinacle, it's more "Harman-neutral").

          • +1

@whyisave: Curves will tell you some stuff, but it won't tell you how a certain driver technology, housing and resonance level delivers that with more complex audio than some basic tones.

Honestly, stop at the Blessing, that's a great spot until there's a lot more happening the market.

            • @jasswolf:

              stop at the Blessing

              ha… I semi-feel the same
but also have curiousities and temptations, for the other models on Crinacles' list :-\

I guess it's trying to avoid the 'diminishing returns',
              ie. would $1000 IEM sound "3x better" than a $300 IEM ?

After blind-purchasing the Blessing and the 7Hz Timeless,
I really like Moondrop's tuning and realize that
I'm not into the magnetic-planar sound, DAC or no DAC.

              • +1

@whyisave: Yeah then you're going to want to stop there, though all drivers have a sweet spot with enough refinement. Without demo, I wouldn't touch IEMs again until there's solid MEMS tunings, as mentioned above.

  • I was thinking of getting his KZ Collab Zex Pro

    • Great value but some have reported an 8khz peak. Which I believe is there
