A silly question, what's the difference between this and the silver model? Silver never goes on sale

    • +$35 for delivery or pickup.

    • Showing as $2328 for me :(

    • +1

Last promotions, oracle in this black wasn't eligible. Only the newer black. Truffle black only and not sesame black.

Sesame black is always cheaper and I think superceded. Only diff I can see is the wattage

    • Could be the raw material used to make the painted machines vs Stainless steel? But more importantly the painted ones seem to bubble/peel/lift off after a few+ years from what I’ve seen.

  • +1

Has anyone experienced the black pairing bubbling/lifting off these units?

    • Houston, we have lift off!🚀

    • +1

On my 7 year dual boiler in the same type of black I did

  • If you could get hold with 15% off TCN gift cards you can get it for $1700 at The good guys or JB Hi-fi.

    Wouldn't it be $1614.15?

Great coffee machine at a great price. Upgraded from a nespresso to the oracle and couldnt be happier!

    • +3

Well that escalated quickly… after my Nespresso machine I went with a Delonghi fully automatic machine before eventually upgrading to a grinder / thermoblock combo before eventually upgrading to the oracle. You seem to have skipped a couple of steps 😂

      • lol it was desperate times cos I was ready to throw the nespresso at the wall with all the issues we had. Oracle suited our lifestyle with minimal effort cos we are time poor, gives us a good coffee every morning so we stopped going to cafes for a fix and someone posted it on ozb for $1600+ so we pulled the trigger :)

  • do i buy this now, or hold for the remainder of the week for a sharper price?

  • +1

Don’t get me wrong, It’s an awesome machine but… they tend to not last long without developing some type of major issue. I had two that failed within a year!

    • Worth investing in extended warranty?

      • Possibly, however doing the whole return process gets old real quick. Especially when they send it for repair and your without a machine for weeks on end. IMO a 2k+ machine should not have such issue’s occurring in such a short period of time.

    • I have had mine for a year with no issues so far, so i am probably getting to the point where i need to start worrying. Just out of interest, what water were you using? Mine has only ever had bottled water from the shop which did not even register when i did the water hardness test. I am hoping this will prolong the life of the boiler

  • Choice.com.au don't recommend this model due to receiving a poor taste test score (45 out of 100):

Three experts test the espressos in a 'blind' tasting, checking the colour and thickness of the crema (the tan-coloured foam on the top of an espresso), aroma, flavour, mouth-feel (for example, creaminess or wateriness) and aftertaste.

    Thoughts?

    • +1

Eat some pineapples to improve taste?

    • It makes an ok coffee. I find it very inconsistent until its made at least 1 coffee. Resulting in severly under-extracted on the first shot - may as well throw it out straight away.

Dosing requires adjusting out the box (mechanically adjusting the temping fan - its easy enough to do) as it tends to over-dose (23g), hard to get to 18/19g consistently.

If you want a semi-auto its good enough; but seperate's are much better if you can be bothered.

      Cheers

    • It takes a fair bit of “dialing-in” before it makes great coffee. Straight out of the box, it’s hideous/undrinkable coz it grinds way too much coffee (waste), tamps the crap out of it (becomes cement), not to mention pre-infuse and extraction times are way off, then there is grind size…
I went though about 1kg of coffee to get it right along with a lot of learning and tweaking the machine but now it’s better than/on par with a good cafe!

      • I have always found mine average to ok for taste, but certainly nothing to rave about. I have done nothing to dial in besides grind size to get around double the weight extracted as what goes in. Can you recommend any settings for me to tweak, or even a good guide for the oracle for a beginner? Would love to improve the consistency and taste of the cofee i get from this thing. Thanks mate

        • Can you DM me. There is a bit to go through.

        • It might depend on your beans cos we stick to a few of our fav and grind size is fairly consistent around 17.

We bought one of ozb's fav beans and the last couple of batches were inconsistent. Used it within the 1st month of roasting and grind size 16 was fine for first cup but over extracted for the 2nd cup.

          • @littleburrito: I came from a dual boiler tonan oracle and ended up buying a seperate grinder (Eureka) for the oracle. That fixed most of my issues.

I would rather buy the Eureka and the oracle …but I do enjoy the oracle's auto milk

            • +1

@EnergicAU: yikes thats too much work for me. tbh everyone ask which coffee machine is better but it really comes down to individual lifestyle and preferences - how much effort you want to put into your cup of coffee, how much you want to spend and how fussy are you with your coffee.

Oracle's not perfect but it suits our lifestyle. I could make my coffee while carrying a baby, I can get it to grind and tamper and froth milk at the same time while i scream at the kids and pack their lunchboxes. A different machine might be a better option if I have all the time in the world every morning by myself to make a nice cup of coffee? Definitely DYOR and watch lots of videos on youtube!

            • @EnergicAU: Is the Oracle exactly like the Dual Boiler when you use in manual with a seperate grinder?
Thinking if it's better to get the Oracle and a separate grinder too for the best of both worlds, missus can use the auto grind and tamp, and I'll use it in manual mode.

              • @Eriadnile: It's actually better. It's got the auto milk froth over the bdb which I enjoy…just set and forget and it gets it pretty good.

Tbh the tamp and grind isn't hard with a seperate grinder but I can understand. Yeh it would give you that ease for your missus but teach her how to tamp and grind and it's pretty easy regardless

                • @EnergicAU: Oh right, I've heard good things about the auto steam wand on the Oracle! Thanks!

      • @pOint01 Can you DM me the links/details please? I have found a vid about changing the dose and a few other items but would be good to now if there are more to try down the road.

  • This or the BES920 Dual boiler with a good grinder?

    • Bdb with Eureka or a good grinder

This machine sucks get a proper grinder and Gaggia classic and save 200$

    • The gaggia classic outright sucks. I bought it as a lifetime machine after all the unwise online recommendations (cite reddit & whole latte love).

I've owned one for a year use it heavily and I'm already looking for my next machine. It has cheaper plastic than my old EM5000. Portafilter handle and steam knob are rubbish. baskets rubbish. Steam valve also continuously leaks (my biggest gripe). Pump has also become delayed. Group head seal itself also worse than the em5000 one. I don't like the gap in the water tank either (bugs can get in).

It also seems to use a LOT of water compared to other expresso machines (due to pre-priming and the discharge valve), the area is like a water park, all the water mixes with the static coffee grounds on the table and create a horrible mess. I've moved it and my grinder to it's own designated table. All my previous machines were never as messy and the tank needs to be refilled far more often. I actually emptied the tiny em5000 drip tray less if that gives you an indication how much of a water hog this machine is. You also can't rotate the leaking wand over the drip tray, so I use a cup (that never catches it all when I need to swap it out for steaming).

The Dual boiler/Oracle is definitely superior. Even Hoffman says so!

  • I have owned one of these (silver) for 5 years now. Have had 2 issues at 3 years and recently 5 years old, with boiler cracking. Breville service covered the first one, but wouldn't cover the second one. Still worthwhile considering my local cafe now charging $5.80 for a latte (extra 50c if you use a T/A cup :O ) and I am able to generate an equivalent quality coffee.

Black sesame is only 1800w opposed to Silver being 2400w.
Super fast heat up for the silver etc.

    • Thanks @Oliviaviv - Where is that found on their website and how much time different we talking about?

    • +2

That was already debunked in the last deals, people received black sesame and on the base it states 2400w.

      • Okay so its $600 extra for not putting black colour on stainless steel material.

        • +1

I think the main issue with this glossy black (black sesame) vs the newer matte black (black truffle)..is that this glossy black isn't as hardy as the matte black.

I've have had the black sesame on both the dual boiler and the oracle and it's prone to chips and bubbling. The 7yo bdb had bubbles at the top. My 6mth old oracle also has chips near the drip tray from wear and tear
