Not sure what drive is inside exactly. Appears to be the same deal as Officeworks: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/736782

I was there!
We should make a OzB PTSD support group.
$24.92 / TB
Assuming the same as prior drives it should be a helium-filled white label HGST HC520.
$25/Tb is my current baseline price, so might be a deal if Officeworks will match.
It’s been this price at OW for days.
it's been the officeworks price for 2 weeks now. Officeworks still has it on this price today.
I had it bookmarked 2 weeks ago as i was planning to purchase it but decided to wait till black friday to see if JBhifi will put a better deal for black friday.
If you are going to be shucking these you can get a 16TB drive for the same price via the GB.
Where is it 16 tb for same price?
I believe OP was talking about this group buy https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/736571
Was thinking price matching from JB with the previous officework deal (got discounted JB gift card in hand) but they wouldn't do it. Happily grabbed two for my unraid setup. Need to swap out current 8TB parity drive with one of these though, parity rebuild fun time…
I picked two up during the Officeworks sale.
Might be worth checking out this benchmark I ran via DiskSpeed in unraid.
Parity and Disk 2 are 8tb (ST8000VN004) and sde is the shucked 12tb (WD120EDBZ), so you may be losing overall write performance by using it as a parity.
Speed seems to be capped at 200mbps, same in the USB enclosure.
The second one is yet to be shipped, so I'm tempted to cancel it and join the group buy in the classifieds to get something more suitable for the parity.
What's the noise like on these ones?
In my experience it is quiet enough. However it's living in a HPE Microserver in the TV cabinet.
The are not silent, and don't always power down either. On one of my windows machine they spin all the time, on another they spin down when not being accessed.
I had to unplug on the other day because it was resonating with the desk, even though it was sitting on a mouse pad. But that was only 1 of the 3 of these I had plugged in at the time.
Amazon has price matched:
https://www.amazon.com.au/Western-Digital-Elements-Desktop-W…Thanks Mendas. Just picked one up from JBHiFi, paying with 15% off TCN Giftcards from Coles. Effecitive price of $254.15 or $21.18\TB.
got one WD120EDBZ inside
does it need the tape mod?
Has been cheaper before at $5/TB.
Pass!
