Will this get you to #1 in online gaming?

  • I have one of these and it is good and fast and great value at this price. The Merlin firmware can run lots of fancy ad blocking (Diversion) and also keep your VPN in place (VPNmon).

Only possible complaints I can think of are:

No Wifi 6E, but most people would be silly to pay a lot of money for 6E because if they do they'll just have to pay big bucks for WIFI 7 in a year or two also.

The dual 2.5 GbE ports are overkill for Australia since we don't have gigabit + speeds yet.

Setting up Merlin is not a newbie friendly activity, but you don't have to use it if you don't want to.

What has been a common use case for WiFi 6E or 7 for a standard household?

Personally besides file copies, I haven’t had any issues with my AC network.

Genuinely curious, because I hear all of these new technology but actually haven’t seen a use case for it other than brute file copy speed.

Ideal use case for 6E is better for when you have a lot of devices that are in a congested wifi area (apartments), and the devices you want to have fast speeds are close to your modem.

It gets a whole new band which is great for speed as hardly anyone is using it yet. Most people will be waiting for it to get a lot cheaper.

Ah… so there is less overlap from the neighbours.

Not a problem for me out in the burbs… on a good night I might catch a whiff of my neighbours WiFi.

  • Got one last week for 449 from Amazon, still unopened, should I get a refund?

Will it be cheaper on Christmas?

      $12 for the hassle? Why?

at this price i am expecting moden is built in with SFP port.

    • FTTP doesn’t need a modem?

    • +1

      Uh ok.

Less and less people will be requiring modems going fwd.

  • This was recommended from another thread.
I can pretty much ignore all the gaming branding and sales pitch?
Seems to be great spec - just want to update my Belong router (wireless N) since i now have a ASUS PCE-AX3000 Wireless-AX card.
Got a good 50/20 HFC connection but could also bump this up sometime (FTTP coming) perhaps.

Any idea how long this deal is running?
    Cheers,

    • It says 8 days left for the eBay black friday deal from the ozbargain tag. Probably best check eBay directly to make sure. Happy bargaining!

  • Yeah no worries mate. Sometimes these things could sell out as well

  • I'm sure the ax3000 would have done me but grabbed it anyway. Thanks OP and others.

      You won't be disappointed.

      • Ok great!
May as well upgrade to 100/20 superloop too for another $10/month. Nothing wrong with Leaptel 50/20, got another 6 months @ $60/m but not exactly the sharpest deal anymore.

  • The box is pretty huge, hopefully can set it up somewhere, may have to be the floor lol.
Didn't really need it anyway but may as well.

  • Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has experience with Instant Guard.

Currently Instant Guard only works with a public IP address, If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) does not support this requirement, please contact your ISP.

I assume you can set it up so that no one can see your acutal IP address from the ISP? Sounds like the instant guard app could be used on your device when outside the home too - like if i connect to work's wifi?

Bit new to some of this but sounds like it would be better than running NordVPN etc and is an added benefit of the router/Asus purchase.

    Cheers,
