    How come so cheap ?

    • +9

Probably not selling all that well, given the absurd price to repair a damage prone screen and the fact that its over a year old…also because paid membership required.

    • +1

older model, even JB are doing this model for around $650

      • +10

after the initial novelty wears off, they are basically useless

What does that even mean? It's a mobile phone that folds.
After the initial novelty wears off… it's still a mobile phone that does everything a mobile phone does and it still folds.

      • +2

@angilinwago At least this phone can withdraw into it's shell after your harsh insults!!

      • +1

Surely you have never used foldables and this reflects the naïve comment.

    • +2

I mean.. Samsung trade in has done this price twice 11 months ago.
      And $599 on Prime Day.

Just because JB advertised it on Black Friday, doesn't mean it's a good price.

      • One of my best OzBargain gets I reckon - $5 trade in of an old Galaxy got us a sub $500 folding phone!

    • +2

i had one on contract for daughter but screen died after less than 2 years. still paying it off although i got a new phone already. the foldable display is simply too fragile and unreliable.

      • +2

I'd have been warranty claiming that. You could "reasonably expect" a handset to last the length of a contract it was sold with.

      • -1

Thatts the problemwith gimmick tech, the fold 4 is better imo, cayse you dint need to fokd the screen too much just use the front for 80-90%

        • +4

AHAHAHAHAHA buy a folding phone and only use the foldable screen 10-20% of the time

        • Maybe if you folded the screen out spellcheck would work properly.

        • Except that outside screen is too narrow to be useful. I had it and I sold it off.

      • You could have warrantied it no dramas if it were less than 2 years old. All expensive electronic devices have 2 years warranty here in aus.

Have a flip 3 and cant fault it. Battery is the only downfall. Will be buying the flip 4 when prices come down.

Black is already out of stock and the rest of the colours are not appealing
Nevertheless is it worth to get this phone event though I don’t need it

    • +1

just make sure you get insurance/care plus. The screen repairs are really expensive on the fold and flips.

    • The green is pretty much black tbh

I managed to pick up a genuine Samsung leather case for it for $20 i think too. The accessories have plummeted also.

  • +2

Give it a pass and save yourself the pain….I regret buying one.

    • Possible to share any details?

      • +2

Camera and battery below par what I expected when I bought it when it came out. Wasn't worth the $$ spent on it. Will see what the next gen go on sale for next year and may worth another look.

  • +1

No stock on other colors too… fails at checkout

Cameras are pretty bad, battery life is really bad (3300Mah). It's not really meant to be production i reckon, should just stay as a prototype phone. It is not a real-world practical phone. Wondered why Samsung bothered to release something like this anyway.

    • +3

Nah it's a good phone. I've been using it more than practically since I bought it a year ago. Just don't expect an S22 Ultra. The form factor is just better than anything else in my opinion. They do need to figure out the battery, that's the only thing I take issue with. It's definitely not a deal breaker though.

      • just wondering what is the benefit of a flip in a normal use case?
I always thought the flip was a bit of a gimmick.

        • +2

Being able to take selfies with the rear camera is nice. Also putting my phone in my breast pocket is good. Being able to receive calls by flipping the phone up, being able to stand the phone up and watch videos (albeit with a tiny screen) And the flip itself is quite satisfying. There are a lot of features which qualify this as a non-gimmick. Apple is looking into fast-tracking a flip device and many other competitors. But as always it really depends on the user. I'd recommend going to a store and having a feel of it if you haven't already.

    • Works perfectly for my use-case. But 256GB is the realistic minimum for me. It's a much better fit in pocket. I don't need huge battery life, I don't game or watch movies for hours or whatever. Cameras are very capable. It stays in PowerSaving mode with 5G off all the time. Flip mechanism is fine, screen is fine. And it brings all the hotties.
This price feels kind of right for it though.

      • is that your main use case for the flip phone? pick up the hotties?

        • +6

Seems an excellent reason to me

    Unobtainable deal

  • -4

    Flip 4 > Flip 3

    • +12

      Flip 4 > Flip 3

In other news, water is wet.

And the Flip 4 is also more expensive than the Flip 3.

I bought this phone in December 2021. Now, I have problems with the screen getting phantom touches, some pixels have died (no I didn't drop it, and it had a case and screen protector). Some areas near the crease has very poor sensitivity. Unless you really value the form factor, the S20 is just as good if not better.

The camera/front camera screen feature is really good though, being able to hinge makes it really easy to stand the phone up and angle photos.

I got my Flip 3 at launch and it has been THRASHED. It's been dropped, partially drowned and accidentally thrown from a car(!)….it just keeps on going. Only maintenance thus far is replacement of the factory screen protector. Cameras are serviceable. Battery is meh. Formfactor is divine (both usability in hand and pocketability when out and about).

      • What's the process of getting the factory screen protector replaced? I can't get a random screen protector from JB Hi-Fi I'm guesing? My wife managed to take her screen protector off and tried to reapply it and it is horrendously bubbly and makes a cracking sound when you close and open!

        Nevermind: https://www.samsung.com/au/support/galaxy-z-premier-service/

          1. Buy cheap and cheerful "Hydrogel" screen protectors from eBay (I think I pay about $10 for a set that covers the main screen + small screen + glass back plates).

          2. Carefully peel off the factory-installed screen protector.

          3. Clean the naked screen with a microfibre cloth and slowly apply the screen protector.

…and just replace the screen protector every 4-5 months. In my experience, the aftermarket ones definitely won't last as long as the factory ones BUT they are more resistant to pressure damage (eg fingernails) and are easier to wipe clean.

Had mine since December 21 and actually I love mine. Its so small when folded and its very tall when opened. Had iPhone 12pro max prior to this and the only downsides are the camera and battery life which dont bother me as I charge mine in the office + dont take many pics.

  • Make sure you keep the receipt as the centre indent plastic outer coating cracks. Samsung will use their usual impact damage excuse so push it like i did and you'll get a screen replacement. The screen and the battery are integrated. Expect a mediocre battery life and have a charger everywhere you go. Otherwise it's an awesome compact phone that doesn't dig into your hip
