  • If I need a landline number, will this work?

    • No - you need a modem/router capable of VOIP

      • Thanks. I have a telstra modem that is on the way out. Can I use this asus router to boost its speed?

        • Yes if you really need it. Check your Telstra modem performance - they do send wifi6 modems that are good on its own for most people.

          • @skinny: Mine is about 5-6years so it's a tad old

            • @n4rut0: Getting good performance is a two way street. you need to have modem with fast wifi and devices capable of using the speed.

              • @skinny: The range is a huge issue atm. Should I just get an ap mesh system?

        • Are you sure its on the way out, and not just poorly configured?

Most telstra routers are by techicolor and are amazing, but come "wrong" out of the box, just depends who did your setup.

          • @MasterScythe: Signals been noticeable dropping over the last year and it's a 5/6year old modem. It's been pretty good other than that

            • @n4rut0: A lot of the time performance drop over time is due to more neighbours getting wifi; and the user not updating their channel and bandwidth to accommodate for that.

"Rock solid" 20 or 40mhz will be a HUGELY better experience than an "auto" 80/120mhz.

Usually when wifi feels slow, its not actually speed, its wifi latency and packet collisions.

I"d suggest tuning what you have first, before you add "more wifi" to the mix and perhaps end up slower.

  • The ASUS RT-AX86U I have has a 2.5Gb port included
