I have the 4GB model, any questions just ask!

    • +1

How snappy is it and do you find it struggling with anything

      • Mine is pretty snappy mostly, sometimes it can struggle a little with some things but you just have to remember that this is not a laptop.

        Overall I love it!

        • Do you have the 4gb or the 8gb? If 4gb, it might just be tanking because it's reached the ram ceiling. Otherwise it's potentially processor related.

          • @Budju: It's 4gb, doesn't seem ram related to me. I never have many processes going at once and try to stick to one task at a time for this reason.

This happens extremely rarely though and is expected imo. Great device 🙂

            • @drinkin-beer: Well if it ever was to max out on ram things would get very slow but i don't know what chrome os ram usage is like. 4gb isnt nearly enough for win 10

              • @Budju: Chrome OS is very lightweight and not at all like windows 10. It is more similar to android so it runs well on basic hardware.

For the most part, these units run extremely well for the price.

                • @drinkin-beer: Yeah I know it's much lighter, but still if youre getting large slow downs at times it's possible it's the ram becuase 4gb would definitely be pushing it a bit even for a light OS. Most phones today come with at least 6 or 8gb

      • pretty snappy, altho I use it for media consumption so Disney, Prime, YouTube. Good enough to do dual app split screen.

        • What resolution can you watch media from those apps and Netflix?

    • How long does your battery normally last?

      • +1

not been able to use it full till drained so not been a problem at all. as a tablet you just keep it on charge whenever you are not using it and is fine.

    • How rugged is it. Is it child/spill/drop friendly?

      • +1

Not very, I dropped mine once and the screen glass popped out. Easy enough to pop back in but I would trust this with kids.

      • It feels very premium with thin edges, best not for kids IMO. perfectly fine if your child use it on a desk, on a bed, in the car.

        Nothing can survive drops anyway.

Btw I haven't had luck finding a case either.

      • The screen is pretty fragile. I dropped it about 60cm onto my couch but it landed on its keyboard and the screen smashed. Lenovo quoted me $800+ to fix it lol

Includes a detachable keyboard and Lenovo USI Pen.

    Nice.

I picked up one of these on gumtree for $250 without the pen and 4gb version. This is a great price for new, 8gb and pen.

The OLED display is really nice.

The size is a bit awkward in tablet mode.

Battery lasts forever especially if you dim the display indoors. It feels like I never charge it

The keyboard is way better than the 10" version I used to own. Full size and better key travel.

I bought this exact model a while back on Amazon for a similar price - one of the best purchases I've ever made and at this price it's an absolutely incredible deal, but just make sure a Chromebook does everything you need to do, otherwise treat it as a supplemental device.

  • I have the Lenovo Duet 5 Chromebook 13.3" OLED 8gb/256gb storage, battery last very long, and it is very snappy, and smooth. But for Android apps, sometime there is a lag. Screen is nice, watching Netflix also nice, but watching Netflix with subtitle (like K-drama) in chrome is not nice, as every times the subtitle pop up, the whole screen become brighter.

Watching Netflix in Android app does not exhibit the same problem, but it only 480p.

The pen is nice, but I rarely use it. Using is as tablet is bit awkward, as it to big and strange size.

But for the price, it is really good. I really wish there is windows laptop with OLED at this price range, the closest one I found is Asus 13 Slate OLED, but somehow, Asus never launch it in Australia.

    • Appreciate your thoughts. Just on the 480p though, how is it possible to watch anything like that? I always change it to 1080p where possible on YouTube and wouldn't go any lower than that. So you'll be able to do 1080 on chrome browser?

      • Yes, the only way to watch netflix 1080p in chromebook is using the chrome browser. I think because using android apps, it does not support Widevine L1 on ChromeOS Android App emulator

      Amazon not available any more

    • +1

Thanks, grabbed the last one. If there is anything i'll just return later

  • I have the 4gb model and I absolutely love it. Absolute steal at this price.

  • I must one of very few who had this experience but I actually found this 8GB very laggy, so much so that I returned to Amazon. Having said that this is a great price.

  • Can I use this to cast to TV wirelessly?

It's a decent price, not amazing when it's already been below $500 twice this year from a quick search on here. I wonder if it will go lower from 25th?

    • Have you got a link to 8GB/256GB version below $500?

      • looks like the previous deals below $500 was for the 4GB/128GB version

        • That is what I found too.

        • Sorry my bad, can't believe I didn't check on the 4gb part. This is a good price then!

      • Sorry my bad, can't believe I didn't check on the 4gb part. This is a good price then!

  • Best media consumption device, aspect ratio is chef kiss perfection for streaming.

Also great for Google docs just don't open too many chrome tabs or it will shit itself.

    • What resolution can you download video content on the apps for Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and Youtube Premium on these?

      • All can be full HD if running on Chrome browser, but not through Android Apps, as it does not support Widevine L1 on Android Apps

  • Anyone running Linux on this?

    • +1

I've run linux on the older Chromebook Duet, so it is definitely possible, but I stuck mainly to command line.

  • Been waiting for this for a Christmas present, thanks OP. Looks like stock is very limited in VIC, only available for C&C from Werribee and Geelong.

  • Can I get some thoughts on this vs the duet 3 deal below or something else for my use case:

Web browsing, streaming services, booking hotels and researching destinations while travelling in the car. Maybe occasional go ame streaming through something like xbox gamepass.

I plan to get a decent gaming laptop for the travel and more permanent setup in house/hotel on desk/table but this would be for quick tasks on the road, for the wife or son to use or just when I'm on the coach.

    All help appreciated :-)

    • It just comes down to size. If you use it more in a tablet form 11" would be better, if you use it more as a laptop replacement then 13" would be better.

      • Thank you!

  • Can we play games on this like pubg and others? Will it run smooth?

    • the 13 inch size and weight IMO doesn't make this a good handheld gaming device for FPS…this is good for in your lap kind of games. Check YouTube for videos re: will it run smooth.

  • BTW anyone figured out how to install MS Edge browse?

  • +1

I just got the 7c gen2 version from officeworks for same price. 7c gen2/8GB/256GB

    • Me2

    • What is the different between 7180 and 7c Gen2?

      • Clock speeds I think is all. 7180 is just 7c gen1. 2.4ghz per core vs 2.55ghz

Just bought this and will return this today, battery is super good (20% still last more than 3 hours) but the size is way too big for my use casse.

    • I was tossing up between this and the Duet 3 (11" version) but went for this for the battery life honestly. The Duet 3 is half or less battery life compared. Shame it isn't in 16:10 ratio, might have been slightly less long in portrait mode.

      • same, I came to JB Hifi the other day and discharged the Duet 3. It was estimated 4.5 hours for 100%. But the form factor is really good and nice to carry or use as tablet. Some reviews only said that can get 8-10 hours. But definitely, nothing compared to this which lasted around 1.5 days without charging (80% - 10%) for normal use (Netflix, browsing, email + discord)

        • Not to mention the OLED screen! Excellent for media consumption. Looks kinda washed out sometimes unless you change flag #force-color-profile to sRGB. Then looks awesome all the time.

          • @AmperSand: How to you change the color profile to sRGB, please?

            • @tongheitai: in chrome chrome://flags
then search force-color-profile and set to sRGB.it will promt you to restart after the change.

              • @AmperSand: Thx a lot mate

                • @tongheitai: Did you notice the difference? It made watching netflix/disney+ etc and just about everything 10 times better for me.

  • Is this still available? Website is showing Unavailable online for the past few days. Thanks Team!
