  • now they are bloody good prices….

  • wow nano for 99 bucks is great, but is this a reliable site?

There must be some kind of catch in the way this site operates.

    plz let me kno. CHeers

    • I think most people will agree Catch Of the Day is a very good site.

      • +2

Well, they make the price so cheap to save on Marketing bill.

        • -1

After today, lets just say that it is not a reliable site cos the server isn't allowing us in to buy stuff!

          • +1

            @hunter88: I take it back..

  • -1

yer no catch postage is the only to look out for but most of the time it priced accordingly to whats being shipped

  • -1

that tom tom and nano are soo cheap!! so are the samsung cameras!!

    • -1

Thinking about that TomTom as a christmas gift for my dad.

Anyone know which model number it is by looking at it? Is it any good?

  • -1

I have bought stuff from Catch of the Day before…i can tell you they are very good…they dont rip you off with postage either, and it arrives very fast.

  • -1

Wow, This is insanely cheap!!! I'm gunna try for a Wii and a Nano. I think postage will be at least $50 - $70 though. And I bet they have like 10 of each item and it'll sell out by 12:01pm. I hope this isn't a scam where they just make postage so much it almost costs normal price.

    • -1

They're usually about average for postage, probably about $15-20 for the Wii and $8-10 for the Nano.

    • -1

Our postage fees are always based on weight.

For example - shipping on the Wii is $9.95.

Registered, electronically traceable and insured as well.

  • +1

Are they going to have more than just one of each item at these prices? hmmm
    "One crazy catch every hour"

    • -1

One new item every hour, that how the site works. They're not stupid enough to have one Wii.

ie wii on sale at 12pm, nano on sale at 1pm etc

    • -1

Sure we are, there is plenty of stock, hope to see you there!

      QQQ

  • -1

Holy crap, $199 for a wii, thats nuts! Will they only have a limited number though?

  • -1

Thats a great post, thanks :-) Dont know whats wrong with the negative dude?? posting a neg when you dont know what you are talkin about makes you look stupid!

  • -1

Ive seen a fair few reviews bout COTD, saying that their service is rly poor and that they take 4ever to deliver, even though they advertise 7-10 days deliv

anyone bought somehting off the site before?

    • -1

Numerous items, never had a problem..
They're the bargain site for Daily Deals..
Stacks of people here would have bought from them.
I'll be buying one or more of each item on that page just about (assuming I can get onto the site)!!

  • -1

yeah.. I have bought products from them.. they are decent.. but shipping really takes long time…

  • -1

bought from them before, but these prices are nuts. very interested in the GPS and the Wii!

Almost hesitated on plussing this vote because more people will be interested in it! hehe

    • -1

With over 500 click throughs in under 2 hours, I think we're going to have to be very fast on the mouse skills when the deals go active. Scenes from trying to get Big Day Out tickets may be repeated on Wednesday.

  • -1

Oh well, I thought I was not going to buy anything more this month, but I thought wrong ;-)

  • -1

Question to QQQ, will the site be able to handle the amount the people who will click on the 29th ? back 12month ago I remember there was a $1 t-shirt deal, the site was down or un-usable till 4pm that day.

    • -1

      Hi Addo,

Good to see a veteran from our first birthday.

We've come a long way since last year. Our website resources are now managed across a sizeable network of servers. The IT geniuses have been stress testing based on projected/predicted turnout numbers and its looking good.

Happy to take further questions from everyone.

      QQQ.

      • +1

The IT geniuses didn't do a very good job.

  • +1

All I have to say is the deals look good but there is always a catch. This reminds me of an episode of the Real Hustle where they sell like one really good thing at a really cheap price and then another and another but of course there are so few of these. Then they offer up a real crap item and people by this time are fustrated because they havent bought anything and just want to buy something cause they've missed out and everything in their mind by now is soooo cheap and they want a good deal. So they end up buying these crappy items thinking they got a really good deal when they didnt.

Of course just my musings but I hope I'm so far wrong :).

    • -1

um, if u don't get what u were after just close ur browser?

it's not lik u had to travel 50km to get there and line up lol!

  • -1

I hope they have enough stock for an hrs worth of selling for each item.

  • -1

    Hey QQQ COTD,
Just wondering since there is only 1 item avaliable per hour, will we still be able to combine the shipping if we buy a Wii and say a GPS unit or will it have to be on separate invoices therefore separate shipping?
Also do you know the shipping price of the wii?
    Cheers

    • -1

I also wanted to ask this question too, as I am planning to buy afew of these deals (SHOTGUN the helicopter and Tomtom :D).

      thanks

PS also wanted to know the tomtom model (is it the 4th generation tomtom one??? http://www.cnet.com.au/cartech/gps/0,2000438599,339290111,00… ???
and the model of that camera???) so cant wait for this sale :D

  • -1

    Question to QQQ,

Can you tell us what Tom Tom model is that on offer?

    Thank you!

  • -1

Last time they announced/sold cheap $199 pc, site was totally down & unresponsive for hours and by time I managed to load the front page, the item was sold out.

Call me sceptic but I believe the same thing will happen again.

  • -1

    Question to QQQ,

is it 1 item per person per hour?

does this include members of my family? say if my mum has an account and i have an account can we both buy 1?

or is it 1 per household address?

    thanks

  • -1

I'm thinking the pictures aren't representative of the actual products… that nano model shown for instance is only 8gb and 16gb (see: http://store.apple.com/au/browse/home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_…). Still, all sounds very cheap! :)

    • -1

No, that ipod nano does have a limited edition 4gb version that is $AU150-170 in stores…

      • -1

Yes there is a 4Gb version.

        • -1

Ok, my bad… didn't know about that :) (I still gave it a +ve, good deals all round there in any event).

  • -1

    SHOTGUN a Wii!!
Will be staking out for this come Wednesday Arvo :P

  • -1

    Models would be great COTD.

  • -1

Strange…mr asstight hasn't voted negative yet!

    • -1

      AHAHAHAHAHAH

      lol! Good one!

  • -1

-'ve even though prices seem good, seems like 9/10th of us won't get it. Last time this happen cos server came down.
And CATCH of the day? after purchasing 2 times from them, delivery took 2-3 weeks, rather invest that money spend in that time to gain that 100 bux back.

    • -1

". And CATCH of the day? after purchasing 2 times from them, delivery took 2-3 weeks"

"rather invest that money spend in that time to gain…"

looks like someone skipped a few english classes :P

"seems like 9/10th of us won’t get it."

Maybe if you read the post by QQQ, the rep stated that the servers have been tested this time. Even if it does crash, it's expected becuase servers are not made to handle such large amounts of traffic at once.

      • -1

maybe some people are negative-ing because they're too lazy to try and get a bargain!

they want bargains handed to them on a plate!

as someone said earlier, this is online, you don't have to line up, you just log on, and you really don't waste your time like people did lining up for cheap petrol that only lasted an hour…

  • -1

    Saw it on COTD yesterday.
    Gotta grab a Wii…
    Unbeatable price~

The camera is Samsung S860. see more details
    http://www.samsungcamera.com/product/pro_view.asp?prol_uid=4…

  • -1

QQQ - Can you give us some idea of the stock availability of the wii's? Are they likely to be sold out within the first few mins, or do you have thousands in stock? Is there a limit of items per person?

Also what are those $5 helicopters like? How much are they usually and are they 2 channels?

Edit: Also are the wii's all new or refurbished?

  • -1

    Question to QQQ,

can you pls let us know the model no for the Samsung camera, Tomtom and the iPod nano (which gen?)? are they Refurbished?

p.s. the refurbished ipod nano 4G is selling on Apple.com.au for about $109 with free shipping

  • -1

I got a feeling those Wii must be refurbished or they have less than 10 for this promotion! There'll be a lot of disappointment buyers coming this Wed.

  • -1

One of the best bargain. I hope they will have enough for all.

  • -1

This is as bad as the ACA petrol gig, at least we knew with the ACA petrol gig how much petrol would be available for sale.

There could be 10 Wii's in total for sale. Which means it sells out in 0.01 mins.

I'll reserve my positive or negative vote till I see how long it lasts.

Just a cheap ploy to get people to their daily deals site, just like how the petrol was a cheap ploy to get people to watch ACA.

    • -1

There's nothing to lose by visiting the site and seeing if they have any stock. It's not like you have to spend 3 hours waiting in line like the cheap petrol.

  • -1

Geez, this is a bargain, of course it will come with limited numbers. What the hell are you expecting.

And the Petrol one was OK, did you expect them to sell at that price until you die?

    • -1

      loooool!

  • -1

Didn't QQQ say there was enough stock? You saying hes lying?

    • -1

"Enough stock" isn't a very definitive answer. Enough stock for 500 people? Or enough stock for the 10'000 that will be trying to get this stuff??

      • -1

        Agreed, we want numbers.

        • -1

COTD doesn't work like that. The whole point of these sorts of websites is that the customers dont know the numbers available!

A LOT of people will miss out be and disappointed, but tough luck. It's not like they 'lost' anything apart from a couple of minutes browsing the site.

          • -1

@zhenjie: Disagree with your statement about "not losing anything". Some people will not be sitting by their browsers on Wednesday. Secondly a deal like this could mean some forego Wii purchases and try and get this deal.

Disclaimer: I already have a Wii

  • +1

They look like great deals but unfortunately I am very wary of that site now. We sent a faulty item back to them and received a used item that was even faultier than the original. Had to contact consumer affairs to get our money back. Would never buy an electrical product from them again.

  • -1

QQQ i would like to know whether the wii are in PAL format (ie the same as are sold within australia) or are they in japanese or US format>>??
    cheers!

  • -1

Unfortunately without model numbers and version numbers on appropriate products, you either have to be crazy or rich to buy it.

If you don't know the model of the camera for instance, you can't tell if its worth $50 + shipping, 8mp doesn't mean anything when it comes to quality (anything more than 3-5mp is wasted if you only wand regular 10x15cm photos), which you can only tell by using it or reading reviews for which you need a model number.

On another note, i bought a battery charger a while ago and it was delivered in satisfactory time.

    • -1

I don't really know but I assume when the item comes on sale, they will tell you the details of the item (model number and stuff).

      • -1

Not as far as i am aware, infact sometimes they don't even tell you the brand (because 'the distributer tells them not to')

Even if they did reveal the model number when the sale starts, by the time one does due diligence on research, it may be sold out.

    • -1

I have bought some items through this website. Basically, the old saying applies, you get what you pay for…. In regards to shipping, the prices are very resonable and they do not whack on a massive handling fee or anything like that, but it does take a while to get to you… I bought some items during there $10 Cap day, where nothing was over $10 and no matter how much you ordered it was a flat rate of $10 shipping… This was a couple of weeks ago now and I still haven't received my items yet. But I already knew that they would take a while.. So just be prepared to wait a few weeks if you do order anything…

The prices are crazy for what is suppose to come up on Wednesday… Look forward to trying to grab a Wii myself! Don't like my chances though… :)

  • -1

    I agree with you Tuhan.
It took 3 weeks to get an order to change status to shipping (bought at the begginning of this month, still haven't received it yet).
The long wait really kill the idea of shopping online.
Regarding model number that many people asked, you will see on Wednesday.
COTD won't hide any details to cheat you.
P/S: i already have a wii as well, so out of interest.

  • +1

I wonder why no reply's / responses from QQQ

  • +1

*** I cannot revote my vote after 12 hours, but please be wary on this shop. I wanting to vote negative on behalf of people posted below, wonder what Wii and TomTom you may get at below 1/2 price.

    http://blog.ozbargain.com.au/2006/catch-of-the-day/

    • Note that that blog goes back as far as 2006, and there really aren't that many complaints anyway. People will always have complaints about any business, but that doesn't account for the thousands of happy customer every day.

I personally won't mind waiting 2 or 3 weeks for a half price wii.

      • I don't think it matters how far back that blog goes. I have read ALOT of complaints on the net about this company - as well as having first hand experience with their bad customer service.

I had purchased from them several times without a problem but as soon as you have a problem with a product they don't want to know you. Oh and I don't know whether it's changed now but you can't even ring them with your complaint - the phone number goes direct to an answering machine that tells you to email them - and good luck getting a reply.

      • The blog was started back then on 2006, but….. almost 80% of the complains are in the last few months or so.

Just recently, ordered dozen of wines, pictured in bottles, but they turned up in carton boxes. Will file yet another complaint.

  • COTD is back on moneybackco.
Make sure you grab extra 4% discount.
    Yiha
    Wii
    Wii

  • I see there are mixed opinions on catch of the day so i'll try my luck.

  • this may be a v stupid question, but does the GPS come with maps pre-installed? or would i need to buy a map separately?

  • Just wondering… do you think it'll be a 4th Gen Nano?

    • Yes. It'd be unlikely they'd post a picture of a 4th Gen Nano if that's not what they're offering.

      • well elcheapo just quoted "recently, ordered dozen of wines, pictured in bottles, but they turned up in carton" sheer prove that it will be the case.

        • Were those the wines that stated they were unable to say which wines they were because of deals with their distributors, and then rambled on about how good and practical wine in a bag is?

        • They've posted a video on the blog now, definitely current gen iPod's in lots of colours.

  • still wondering how or whether or not we can combine the shipping if we buy different items that comes out at different hours. Can QQQ (or anyone who has emailed them this question) pls confirm this before the sale starts, so we know in advance roughly how much the total will be (and not after we've purchased the item)???

    thx

    • I highly doubt it, if they are sending an iPod nano to you in a small box, it's pretty hard to fit a Wii in that box and send it together I reckon. ;)

      • They could do it the other way round - Nano in a Wii box. But if it's anything like Zazzmania on Zazz, then it'll be paying for postage on a per-item basis.

  • Can I ask, if the site crashes or they sell out of Wii and ipods in like 5 mins is that then worth a retraction of a positive vote ?

  • I guess it's a plus for those who managed to get one, and a minus for those angry that that didn't get one. That's pretty fair if you ask me ;)

  • yes I still think its a good deal, just be good if they said how much stock they have cause I am sure its going to be tight to get one of those Wii's

  • WOW 30 min left and site is already REALLY SLOW ><

  • LOL now it says unfortunately there are too many people online please come bak later HAHAHA

    damn u all lol!!!

  • wow it is dead. great work.

  • Complete and utter BS. Site down and sale hasn't even started yet. Great work COTD. Scammers

    • scammers? wow. thats a little harsh to say. they didnt even take your money or anything did they? from what i know, COTD has been good with me.. i pay, i get my goods. and because of this birthday sites. look at the deals, of course they're gonna be a bunch of bargain hunters trying to get a piece of it. voting negative before it even begins, wow. you're probably one of those trying to get on to grab a BARGAIN.

    • Well. I won't call them scammers — it's like calling JetStar scammers who cannot keep their servers up and running everytime there's a big sale.

They (or their IT guys) are probably either just incompetent or have never planned a big surge of traffic. These guys are hosted with Rackspace (very expensive managed dedicated servers) so they are probably on the phone with them trying to get the performance issues resolved.

  • lol so much for even trying to get it hahah, even if u get the wii to ur cart, chances r the next screen will crash and u gotta do it all again lol!

    • lol yeah i agree. so no one will get any! =P

  • What a joke!

  • what a pain
