Holy hell $139 RRP for an UMBRELLA!?

This thing better keep someone dry in the middle of a cyclone or hurricane for that price.

    • -5

And it comes with shitty looking handwriting all over it too. Oh sorry that’s meant to be “art”.

      • +3

you will understand when you have them. oh well maybe still not, its all subjective. but according to many this one is the best. and actually i may buy this because of the art. i cannot stand plain boring black design. its so dark and scream horror and sadness

        • Can appreciate a different or unique umbrella. Not sure if I could justify the price in my current situation. Hardly ever go out let alone get caught out in rain.

Not a huge fan of the black one. The blue one was really nice.

          • +1

@ozbs25: this specific brand makes ones with UV coatings so it's not always just a normal el cheapo bunnings umbrella that most people are used to. their umbrellas have quite a few features that i like.

i get that the asking price range can be a bit high, but imo it's worth waiting for discounts to get one.

this is one of those things where I'd buy one for myself and also keep a bunnings one to lend to others.

            • +1

@slowmo: I don't really use umbrellas for shade either but have thought about getting one for my wife. We don't go out in the sun much but we do worry about the damage the sun causes. Maybe one day we'll pick up something nice.

              • @ozbs25: like i always like to tell people, there's no harm in browsing, even if the product is way beyond our wallet budget :D

        • Honestly, that umbrella looks like they got the riddler from Batman to design it.. or my nephew with whiteout.

          • -1

@Wilson Wallace: not sure if that's the 'burn' you are going for… if riddler designed it, i'm sure the star value would've made the RRP go up…. or also your nephew might be a artist that holds a well paying job designing for an umbrella company charging premium prices.

surely you aren't going for the "artists' work are a joke and doesn't deserved to be paid" angle isn't it?

            • @slowmo: I use an umbrella because it rains, not because I I want people to look at me and say, “oooooo that’s a beautiful umbrella with white out on it” whilst I’m getting pelted with rain. Anyway, this is of my opinion and people are free to waste money on something that will get rained on.
I look at the product, I see what purpose it will provide and I make my call.

              • @Wilson Wallace: it's funny how you manage to make it sound that you care about the practical aspects, and yet only picked on the art aspect of the blunt umbrellas to crap on.

I look at the product, I see what purpose it will provide and I make my call.

that's literally what everyone else is doing, you ain't a unique snowflake for doing this. Yet your earlier post was just about the art and nothing close to what you claim to do.

lets hear from you then, warranty, after sales support, quality of materials of the umbrellas you have. go.

      • Don't worry you can get a plain black umbrella for either $169 or $143!

        • I’d pay more to not be seen with this “art”.

    • In the Greg Straight one description:

      Wind-tested to: Category 1 hurricane

    • have you used one before?

    • +2

This thing better keep someone dry in the middle of a cyclone or hurricane

They are literally engineered for, and tested to, Category 1 Cyclone conditions.

There used to be (is?) some excellent YouTube videos of these being tortured in a wind tunnel. Feel free to go have a look.

      • A 100cm umbrella isn’t going to keep anyone dry in those sort of weather conditions. The primary downside I believe for this size umbrella.

        • An 100cm umbrella isn’t going to keep anyone dry in those sort of weather conditions.

          There. Fixed it for you.

    • Pretty fair price considering this doubles as a boat come cyclone

  • I'm looking for an ordinary, small formfactor, above average quality umbrella. Could someone give me some recommendations?
    Thanks

  • -1

i think they only had 1 or 2, its sold out now.

    • 'Greg Straight' version is sold out but the 'Forever' version is still available.

    • +2

No, still in stock. I just got one.

These rarely go on sale, good find and thanks OP.

Pro-tip: Blunt's after-sales service is as awesome as their umbrellas.

I contacted them after my original Golf G2 developed some tiny holds in the fabric. Given it was almost five years old, I simply asked them for some DIY repair tips. They replied immediately stating that the fabric shouldn't have developed those holes. They offered me a replacement and sent me a prepaid label for return of the old umbrella!

I've since purchased a couple of extra Blunt Metros (to keep in the office and the car) and gifted a number of them, too. They have a developed a lot of brand loyalty with me.

        • +1

that's awesome to know. My has a hole in it as well and it's been 9 years. time to contact CS

  • Still in stock….

    • Both OOS now :(

    • Not anymore…

  • Oh man….

Is this Umbrella big enough for 2 people to walk under?

    • i mean how wide are the 2 people you are talking about?

      • Subjective i know….

      • Could we share a rowboat? Could… could a rowboat support her?

    • Not really. It is effectively smaller than specified due to the design. I have a metro.

  • +2

It saddens me to see everyone jump and neg the comments when people says it's expensive.

    • +2

      because it's not objective.
      expensive compared to what?

is there another comparable item in the market that we dont know?

    • +10

Objectively, it's the best-engineered and best-supported umbrella that money can buy.

Saying it's "expensive" is subjective and stupid.

    • +3

it's most likely people that don't have much of a disposable income and cannot justify a 3x improvement in quality with a 5x price (remember access to quality is sometimes a privilege). disclaimer: i do own a blunt umbrella.

      • +1

access to quality is sometimes a privilege

Buy cheap. Buy twice (or more).

Or, as they saying goes in Dutch and Afrikaans, "goedkoop is duurkoop" (cheap is expensive).

        • Buy cheap. Buy twice (or more).

          Buy a $10 umbrella 5.5 times

          • @dtc: Totally a thing given the umbrella massacre you witness in Sydney and Melbourne CBDs every time there's a thunderstorm or rain with light wind.

          • @dtc: this is probably the preferable cashflow pattern for people with low disposable income.

            • @node modules:

              low disposable income

Now I'm wondering many cheap umbrellas are purchased on BNPL arrangements 🤔

        • +1

          Love that saying

  • these are actually really really good

  • I thought it was blunt as in "F**k off" written all over on the top.

But I've generally found umbrella users are always trying to poke the eyes out of people they force to walk in the rain while they walk under the alcoves of buildings

    • i'm not across all range, but some of their umbrellas have a spinny canopy, so that when you knock, it doesn't take an eye out.
Idk. have a look in their site, or don't.

it's pricey if you are looking for a basic umbrella. but i've thrown away so many $30-50 umbrellas in a single year when i had to commute that I could get a few blunt umbrellas at RRP.

Funny how their ebay listings have 19 still available Greg straight and 9 for blacklist 😐

    • yeah. from my experience, they are not quite up to date with their inventory management.

i have orders cancelled from them before, it's also blunt umbrellas.. that's a couple years ago before covid.

            Seems they're just intermittently restocking.

  • +1

I acquired an older model blunt umbrella however the plastic supports had snapped. Blunt sent replacements free of charge 👍

  • +3

I like Blunt umbrellas, and can attest to their customer service. Very happy with mine, so I bought another couple for the family - their Ebay store still has them. Use BRANDSOFF5 for $5.50 off.

  • +1

Bought one from their eBay store for my partner for Xmas. She already has the mini blunt and the very big one. Now she’ll have all 3 sizes. May seem excessive but they all have a use in different situations. I’ve owned one myself for a couple years. These are absolutely brilliant umbrellas.
    Thanks OP

  • You left it on the train.

  • I didn't expect learning about umbrella technology today. Thanks OP

  • +1

Out of stock even on eBay

    • back in stock on ebay

edit: sold out on ebay AGAIN

  • Damn, check in between it being out of stock on the main site and before the ebay store was with updated price :(

  • i did not buy one of these but found it on the side of the road. can confirm quality is insanely good but would NOT pay that much for an umbrella lol

  • Back in stock on ebay
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/255437264636

Just got 3 for the family as it tends to rain heavy here.

    Anddd sold out AGAIN

  • +1

    Pls. Need one :(

    • Didn't miss anything, Blunt Metro is comically small.

  • Miss it, such a deal

  • Back in stock on eBay

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/255437264636

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/255167104798

I used BRANDSOFF5 for $2.75 discount. Paid $59.25 for the black one including delivery.

  • I love my blunt… this is blatant ripping off a good idea.. sigh… https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002687743923.html

  • +1

Oooh can’t believe I missed out on this deal! Thanks for sharing op!

  • Still OOS on ebay but need a new compact brolly … any good alternatives?

  • Mine is coming today.

  • Just received email saying they are OOS and can't send them umbrellas to me, I'm going to ask them to replace with an equivalent umbrella.

    • Same. Concerning given my order was confirmed at 8:23am Perth time via eBay and there are comments above saying there was stock for both (on eBay) at 2:04pm Perth time.

I won’t hold it against anyone but curious to know if anyone placed an order after 8:23am for the limited Greg Straight edition umbrella which is being fulfilled.

I’ve been offered “587537 -Blunt - Coupe Umbrella Navy” as a replacement. I assume it’s this

      Will say yes I guess.

      • I said yes to the 2x Coupe replacements

        • Coupe doesn't collapse and is only 5cm bigger than a Metro. I own Classic and Sport for their superior coverage.

          • @sumyungguy: Yeah, I would prefer metro as I have 4 already. I like the compact size. The 2x Coupe was going to be gifted so I think the recipients will still be very happy.

  • Just got mine (coupe navy) and not sure if I would pay more than $40 for this. I had a classic years ago when they were selling them at $100 rrp and it feels really flimsy and cheap compared to my previous Blunt.

    • +1

Coupe is a light umbrella compared to the Classic so of course it feels flimsier

      • I quite like the Coupe x2 that arrived today! Make sure they send you an updated invoice so there won't be warranty issues in the future
