  • What's the usual price?

    • +7

$904 is what other retailers have been selling it for.

      • +9

I dont think its overpriced at all, try building a reliable pc

        • -1

Xbox series x would be better value with game pass.

          • -1

@Griffindinho: But pc with game pass is even better (playing 4k notwithstanding). Of course, $$$.

          • +1

@Griffindinho: Sure, if by value you mean "a much, much longer list of games I totally could play, but won't, half of which are flavours of Halo, Forza, or ancient 360 titles"

        • -1

          I did build one.

Definitely not cheaper than the PS5 but the PS exclusives are all coming to PC for a much cheaper price. PC is better long-term. No console should be $800 base price.

          • +4

@NeggerOfDeals: All the PS exclusives are coming to PC, appears as though only after they have become PS classics

          • +7

@NeggerOfDeals: I prefer console cuz I don’t have to upgrade parts. Plus play from couch. Depends on preferences but I don’t wanna sit in front of monitor all day for work and then again after work for gaming.

      • +6

Yeh you can't build an equivalently capable PC for anywhere near $800.

        • +2

Yes but PC is way more versatile, so spending $1500 on a PC you'll save money in the long run, cheaper gamer etc

          • +1

@mrtee: If sony puts day one on pc then yer pc. But so easy and convenient to kick back on couch turn on and playing in seconds especially with xbox quick resume.

            • +5

@Jklaro: I bought an Xbox after years as a PC only person. Really loving it, performance is way above my expectations and it's a much nicer experience for singleplayer games. Better for the eyes too, if used on a tv some distance away.

PC gaming has it's place (competitive multiplayer games mostly) but definitely not sure why I looked down on consoles for so long.

              • @nigel deborah: You can plug your PC into your TV and play with a gamepad for the same experience.

                • +1

@alcadive: Yes, true, but unless you plan to do other computer tasks sitting at your couch, it's just a more expensive console. Plus console games are very well optimised for ideal TV output (4k60), at least, the dozen I've tested feel smoother than on my 3070 PC.

Maybe the ideal setup is a long HDMI cable and a PC with desk setup that also works with the TV

                  • @nigel deborah: Yeah it's ideal if you have your desk in the same room as your TV.

                  • +1

@nigel deborah: I use Gamestream on my NVIDIA Shield to stream my games to my telly. Works pretty well with a wired connection. Although it is a slight pain having to go to another room to turn the PC on in the first place.

                    • @teslacoil33: Put in in sleep mode then wake it up via Gamestream/Moonlight.

Virtualhere also to forward your controller directly to your shield. If you don't do that anyways.

A PC is the best expensive console ever, hey!

          • @mrtee: Nope. Xbox series x would be cheaper with a Turkey game pass subscription.

        • Of course not but you can upgrade an existing PC for less than $800.

      • +1

Ps5 version is $99 at Target

      • +5

Target is selling the game for $79 funnily enough.

        They're not, that's the PS4 version. PS5 version is $99.

Different people have different preferences and opinions on purchases. Calling them clowns for preferring something different than you is poor form.

      • Correction.
        Bundle = $888
        Actual console cost = $799
        $888 - $799 = $89
Only a clown would pay $800.

      • +1

I guess I'm a clown then, along with 25 million other clowns worldwide.
Or is spending 2.5k on the latest graphics card considered too much to spend.
        Each to their own Dagmar.

        • +1

I also have a PS5, mate. Along with s 3070Ti I bought at launch price.

I'm a clown like the rest of you. I learned this from experience. But nice try!

      • Your maths is basically correct I don't know why these pleebs are downvoting you.

        • I think it may have something to do with calling them clowns.

          • +1

@NeggerOfDeals: Clown move to compare a ps5 to a pc as basis for this being a bargain, that's for sure.

    888

As an Asian, I’m practically obliged to say yes at this price

    • +19

You mean as a Chinese? Not all Asian believes in this 888 culture.

        • +17

He said as an “Asian”, and he said he is obliged to say yes to this price of 888 - I assumed that he was born in Chinese (culture) or is associated with it.

Not all Asian culture - including myself an a Korean - believes in this ‘symbolism’ of luck.

          See the article from wikipedia;

In Chinese numerology, 888 usually means triple fortune, as a form of strengthening of the digit 8. On its own, the number 8 is often associated with great fortune, wealth and spiritual enlightenment. Hence, 888 is considered triple.[14] For this reason, addresses and phone numbers containing the digit sequence 888 are considered particularly lucky, and may command a premium because of it.[15]

Ps. I did not downvote you.

          • +6

@Jay Nomad: Seems nobody made the connection to the meme "did you just assume my gender".

            • +3

@NeggerOfDeals: Yeah, I think you pretty much walked into the “you just activated my trap card”

          • +2

@Jay Nomad: True. My girlfriend doesn’t believe in those numbers. She’s korean.

        • +4

This joke just flew over everyone's head. Chill the hell out people.

      • -5

“8” is an auspicious and lucky/prosperity number in East Asian culture esp Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese, Thai, Cambodian, Malaysian, Singaporeans, Myanmar etc.
The number they avoid is “4”, similar to western culture to avoid number 13.

        • +2

I am not sure if you are correct, I think 7 is regarded a lucky number for Koreans.

I agree with you on 4 as being an unlucky number, even old elevators had F(our) instead of 4.

Source; grew up in Korea, spent 22 years over there.

        • Wrong

        • Only if those people living in all the countries you listed are Chinese (eg Chinese living in Vietnam). Else incorrect.

      • +1

all Asian believes in this 888 culture.

(fwiw I think it's all BS btw - but I sure as hell will believe breaking a mirror will give me 7 years bad luck). - it was more (in my mind), a light hearted joke as it's such a EXACT number, not like $899 or $895 which is MUCH more common price point - that it HAD to be a jab at the whole 888 lucky number chinese thing

but you know what yes many people believe many things in many variations of asian culture and if your culture doesnt do the 888 is a lucky number thing, that's okay too mate :) ill be SURE to clarify next time whether its chinese OR taiwanese (see what i did there), hk, korea, japan, malaysian, indonesian…. unfurls rest of long-ass scoll

ps its ok if you downvote me i get downvotes everyday, its all fake internet points anway, sure as hell doesnt pay my bills.

    • username checks out

    • If you are Chinese AND a true bargainer, you would only say yes when it is 666, or wait for an error pricing 168 😜

      • +1

Nobody will price merchandise at 666 or 444. They will price to $668 or 669.95.
Many retailers prefer pricing digits ended with 5, 8, 9 or 0.
The retailers knew that even Judeo-Christian and Asians are sensitive to such pricing or numbers.
Just observe how Amazon, Big W, Target, K-Mart, Myer, David Jones etc do their RRP$.

        • Nobody will price merchandise at 666

Random keyword search on eBay 😜
          https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_nkw=electronics&_udlo=66…

But anyway my comment was in jest, base on Chinese belief 666 is a lucky number. Not to be taken seriously 😉

          • @Buy2Much: 666 in the western and Judeo-Christian belief represent evil or Satan but in Asia it is not an unlucky number.
8, 88, 888 represent prosperity in Cantonese cos the 8 pronunciation is very similar to prosperity.
4 sounded like death in Cantonese and Mandarin and represent bad omen or evil.
But not all Chinese believe in that superstition anymore except those older generations age group.

      • +3

        Chinese AND a true bargainer,

actually i (as a chinese descent ozbargainer) would say, no, i dont need playstation and god of war, i got playstation and god of war at home already

scene cuts away to original ps2 and god of war 2, covered in dust and cobweb

    • +2

As an Asian, I’m practically obliged to say yes at this price

As an ozbargainer, I’m practically obliged to say NO at this price

      • It’s okay to say ‘no’ mate, didn’t you see those advertisements by the government?

  • Will it finally be in stock on store shelves before xmas? Insane that it's been sold out for two years.

    • -1

so they can keep the RRP up there.

      • +1

Funny how Nintendo did this on purpose for years to drive demand and keep the prices high

    • Walked in and picked on up from JB on release day of god of war because I’d been waiting to play it. Paid $900 but cancelled my back order with Harvey Norman who couldn’t even guarantee a date at all. For the few extra bucks it was worth it to me to skip the queues etc.

  • Get this or wait for Boxing Day ?

    • +2

Boxing Day discount only for not popular items

      • Not true. Black Friday/Prime Day/Boxing Day Sales also discounted selected popular items and games. I had bought PS4 Pro Console (in 2020), Sony PSVR, Nintendo Switch Console for big discount. Popular Switch games such as Animal Crossing, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Luigi Mansion 3, Super Mario Odyssey for under $40 in the last 3 years. I also bought Nintendo Switch Pro Controller last year for $69.

        • +1

ah yeah maybe. but PS5 is different level always out of stock and some people bought PS5 3months ago still waiting. Do you think they are going to put PS5 on black friday sale too?

          • @javawoo: Then you are right, cos PS5 & XBX are always OOS for over 2 years. Remember the price hoardings by some buyers by doubling the price?

  • +7

I'm not saying the ps5 is bad a console it's a great one. But I've had my ps5 for 2 years and I only turn it on to play exclusives after that it collects spiderwebs and dust. I play my pc and switch 99% of the time. If you ask me the PS5 is a little overhyped/overrated

    • +7

Not everyone has a pc a switch and a PlayStation

      • +3

If I was in a situation that I could only pick one console because financial reasons I would pick Xbox series X because the huge value you get from gamespass, at the moment neither Sony or Nintendo can even come close to that

        • +7

Ps has the exclusives that I want to play and I don’t own any other consoles or a pc that can play games, so it makes sense to my personal situation.
I upgraded from OG ps4 so it was nice to finally have 4K support etc and be able to continue to play my PS4 games.

If you had no reason to buy it and you are a pc gamer then that seems like poor decision making on your part and nothing to do with the hype around ps5. Your advice to pick up the Xbox is also biased by the games you play as I personally find the ps games better.

I would tell people to research what they want out of it and pick the game system that supports it, regardless of Ps/Xbox/Pc/switch or whatever.

          • -1

@DamagedDingo: Some of the PS exclusives are pretty good. Xbox all the way for value , game pass plus super cheap game codes (cheaper than PC codes even, somehow)

          • -1

@DamagedDingo: Most games on PS are on Xbox now. Besides the select sony exclusives.

            • +3

@Griffindinho: Which are the ones I personally play. My point is that the value one gets from a console is dependent on personal factors such as the games they play or perhaps a requirement to play games with friends. With Christmas around the corner I wanted to ensure that people consider what a kid wants to do with a system rather then what’s cheaper or even better value.
Using myself as a example I didn’t see value in Xbox even though it’s cheaper. My library is almost exclusively PS exclusives. Horizon, GoW, Ratchet and clank, last of us, ghost of Tsushima etc are the games I am playing now and from memory are all ps only except horizon which is also pc now.

              • +2

@DamagedDingo: Ok so you only play a handful of games. Fair enough. If you only play Sony exclusives then that would be better for your needs. But an Xbox series x would be better value if you tend to play multiplat games. I have both consoles and I tend to play my Series X a lot more. It’s a better machine for multiplats.

        • Gamepass isn't free. PC is though.

    • Just curious do you mean actual spiderweb?

      • Yes. Real life wildlife webs.

        • Spiderwebs mean bugs nearby? I have heard PS4 was a great place for cockroaches to live in but unsure how good is a PS5.

    • That summed up gaming though… It's become all about exclusives/ first party content. Might've always been. Eg Goldeneye etc built the 64

      • No 3d and a controller with a stick made N64, there was nothing like it before.

        • Nah, it was content.

          • @pensionday: Yeah which was 3D and hadn't been done before. The 3D was a main selling point. If it was 2d content it wouldn't have worked as well, certainly no golden eye in 2d so yeah it was 3D that made it.

    • +1

I have all 3 and my PC, with its constant driver updates, game issues, and occasional OS issues gets parked. My switch does nothing. And the PS5 simply gets abused.

Personally PC gaming is so overpriced for the difference. $000s for better looking light effect or something. I have the money, I just don’t see the value AT ALL

      • Fair enough. Everyone has a right to their own opinion.

    • +1

Thought most people buy PS5 because of the first party exclusives. I did. Anyway, thanks to OZB, I took the EB games deal and traded in my PS4 Pro and old games, only paid $50 out of my pocket for the console. So I am fine with it collecting dust.

    • +1

I hardly use mine too, and I have the top tier of PS+. It's nice to have though, if I didn't have the PS5 then I'd feel bad about missing out.

    • -1

      I own a $5000 (in 2019) gaming PC, a PS5 and an Xbox Series X.

PS5 only gets used for brand new exclusives and the odd free game from Plus that I don't have on PC. It was worth the cost just for the exclusives. I firmly believe Sony's first party studios are the best devs in the industry and it's crazy there's people out there who call themselves 'gamers' and can't experience the pinnacle of single player experiences. There's no part of me that believes I wasted money on it, or that it's overhyped, even though it only gets a few games a year played on it.

Before someone argues that Sony has started publishing on PC (which I think is great), there's no part of me that would ever wait for it's games to come to PC years after release so that means literally zero to me personally.

The Xbox Series X is the only waste of space thing I've bought, as the PC has full access to the Xbox platform (and my PC is also connected to my OLED with GSync and I have a wireless controller so the experience is no different to an actual Xbox when I wish it to be). I should get around to selling it.

      • +1

        Take that Microsoft!

        • That's not what I was aiming for…

Game Pass on PC is incredible.

I'm not saying Xbox is terrible, just that in my circumstance with a really good PC, it was a pointless purchase I regret because I have zero need for it as the PC serves the exact same purpose.

If you don't have a PC, Xbox makes a tonne of sense. If you do, there's literally zero logical reason to own one.

    • +2

I own those too, but maybe I am getting old.
Switch games just doesn't do it for me.
I always fell asleep playing switch games.
It's great for the road, and short plays.
But for playing at home, nothing beats ps5 exclusives at the moment.

      • +1

Well for me I no longer get the time sitting in the lounge. So switch makes sense and it's portable.

    • agreed on the ps5, until a Rockstar or naughty dog title comes out

  • Out of curiosity, is this disc or digital?

    • +6

Click on the link to see the item and check the description.

Console is disc version, game is digital version.

  • Ill be buying amazon gift cards at upcoming aldi sale to buy the bundle for $815.40

    • +2

It might be sold out by then.

  • +1

Thanks Op, i think the $10 excludes games and gaming consoles. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. 👍

    • +1

      You are correct

  • When is the next PS5 model coming!?!

    • +2

      Few years before PS7
