  • I can't decide between the Ryzen 7 5700X and the Intel i5-12600K. Ryzen comes up for me with shipping at $283 versus the Intel at $369.

Intel is only 6 p-core versus 8 but single thread performance is important to me but worth the extra $86?

      Probably not.
They're not that different in performance unless you're running a 3080 at 1080p or something.
And for photoshop and code compilation the 12600k is only slightly faster.
      https://youtu.be/Kr5V1lgctYw?t=455
Probably better off saving the money to put towards a GPU.

      • Thanks

It's going to be a HTPC build for the TV in the lounge so gaming at 4K once I decide what I'm going to do with the GPU. Only gaming though yeah.

I guess 4K gaming is mainly GPU dependent so they'll perform very similar at that res but we'll be using it for high end emulation too so better single thread performance is important. Not sure if that makes a difference at 4K though.

If you're going small form factor the 5700X might be a better option in general because the 12600k consumes about twice as much power to run that bit faster.
Probably not enough of a difference to change what PSU you can get away with, it's only about 60watts less, but with limited cooling the 12600k might end up slower than the 5700x in some scenarios.
          Don't know for sure though.

          • @Lief: Very true. Actually going a slim standing tower which takes MATX but still, don't think airflow is great in the case I'm using so definitely a consideration.

            Thanks

5600 seems to be jacked by $10 now

    • +1

yeah just saw that, the B550 PRO and B550 APRO also both got jacked up 10$

      • Yes, it got jacked up. Good thing I haven't purchased.

    • It's still displayed as $219, but when you add it to the cart it becomes $229.

What's the redemption process for uncharted?

    • +1

Not 100% sure, but from the scarce info I've seen, I think it's something along the lines of signing up at the AMD rewards site, claiming the game, they scan the system hardware to see if the CPU matches, and it adds the code to your Steam library.

By all accounts it seems you'll NEED to install the CPU before you can claim the game?

      What?

  • This is tempting, but then I'd be tempted to build a whole new rig.

    No stock 5700x?

  • haven't been following recently, currently have the AMD Ryzen 5 2600 - which one should i look to upgrade to for best value?

    • Best value is the 2600 because that's $0
Anything else depends on how much you value money vs performance.
The 5600 is about 15-20% faster than the 5500, is that worth $50 more?
It is to me, might not be to you.
It also depends on what you want it to do. If you want it to play games faster, it wont unless you have a CPU bottleneck right now, like a 3060@1080p or something.
But getting some CPU headroom now means when you do upgrade the GPU, you can get more out of it. Though you might have been better off picking up a cheaper or faster future CPU in that scenario
The 5600 is substantially faster at everything though so if you do heavy creativity stuff you'll see a benefit immediately.

Got a 5600G but had to pay $21 shipping. 170 total.

  • Wished I had waited before upgrading from the 2600 to 5600 at centrecom.

Hope the 5800x3d goes on sale too soon

  • Man I'm bummed on missing this. Had my stuff in the cart and and took too long deciding on what mobo to get :(

  • Wow Ryzen 5600 for $164.91, grats to those that managed to buy it.

For reference I bought the 5600 + B550M Pro for $294.30 from shopping express just 2 weeks ago…

Happy it's over, no more torment to upgrade for a little while longer

Happy to report the deal is back on lmao… Shipping for me was an extra $20 which was a bit rough, but $290 for a Ryzen 7 is still a solid deal.

      • Why you do dis… Lol

  • Has anyone got a tracking number yet? Mine is still at the 'picking' phase.

  • Does anyone know the steps to redeem uncharted? The link in description is just a landing page
