Had to comment. I still ride an original 1998 Rift Zone, purchased in Marin County when I lived over there back in 1998.
Still works well to this day and gets the occasional run down the Oaks Trail (used to be up too…). It's my most used bike. Given I'm approaching 60 that's not too bad but I am seriously considering making it into an eBike just "because".
Frame, swing arm all as per 98, even the bearings. Forks and Rear Suspension upgraded to about 125mm travel and still uses original Avid V-Brakes that work fine in Aus. Gears now 9-spd Shimano XT with an "old man" 11-34 crawler cassette.
They built them well back in those days… I've tried more recent bikes, and indeed own a couple, but to me it's a case of diminishing returns.
