  • If this was an SSD then sure it would be great (amazing even) but this is meh for just a normal hdd imo

  • +8

    A 4tb hdd for $230? Isn't that atrocious?

  • Aye it’s 209 at scorptec?

    https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/hard-drives-&-ssds/exter…

    229 mwave

And a 5tb option for similar money at umart …

    • This is the new 3.1 type C model

      • I’ll revoke the neg as I can’t find anyone else with the 3.1 version - interesting…

      • Only benefit from this model on a portable hard drive is if you really needed a USB-C connection on both ends of the cable. Performance wise you'll be lucky to get 120MB/s from the drive. Otherwise unless you absolutely need a USB-C connection on the drive then it's a bit of a gimmick on a portable hard drive.

  • OP forgot that this is not an SSD.

  • Username doesn't check out.

  • You can buy a 2TB ssd at this price

  • 2tb portable drives wouldn't be much to get excited about unless maximum $150. Probably closer to $120 anyway.

Regardless of the connection, which makes no real difference anyway.

  • So, why exactly is this getting upvotes if it's not even the cheapest this low-value drive is currently selling for?

  • I got 2x USB C 4tb HDD from JB hi-fi for $99 each on different occasions. The rugged part is just a rubber cover which is bulky but you can always wrapping something soft on the normal drive to achieve the same result. After all, no body can guarantee the data safety in any drives.

  • Ii was going to downvote, but the USB 3.1 version is a lot more expensive elsewhere.

Whether this is a good deal or not, it's a good price for the product it seems.

  • This is a normal sata drive?
    Not a SSD?

    • +1

Yes it's just a SATA hard drive. It's got a normal 2.5" SATA 4TB hard drive inside of the enclosure. So it's basically a 2.5" SATA 4TB HDD inside of an external 2.5" USB-C enclosure with some kind of rubber wrapped over the enclosure to give it extra durability for those people who often throw it inside of bags and stuff. I would think that it's more made for content creators who often travel with it inside of of a travel bag. Is probably the reason for the higher price because the manufacturer knows that they can get away with the price markup.

      • SATA hahaha
No way I'm going close to this for that price.

      • It makes even less sense when you realise that anyone looking for rugged durability is only going to be looking for an SSD - fragile mechanical drives won't be a consideration.
