Can someone please dumb it down for me and provide the minimum cost to acquire these 2 phones and then early terminate?

    • I'm curious too

    • 1050 for pixel 7

      • +11

        Pixel 7 pro on 12-month plan- $157.24(phone and sim) x1 month x $108.24 ( phone only) x 11 months=$1347.48 for both phones.

    • +1

From my understanding, it would be the minimum cost stated on the page after you select a plan.

Selecting the lowest-priced plan, for example, at $49 per month, it would be $1,047.64 (roughly the device cost $999 + one month of the plan). (This would be assuming you cancel within the first billing cycle, and Optus remembers to send you the bill for the remaining device cost.)

      As stated in the T&C's:

When you sign up to a month to month SIM plan with a device payment plan, your min. cost is the cost of your device in full plus one month of your SIM plan fee.

      • So basically you're getting both phones for $1,047?

        • Yes.

        • Yes just did this yesterday. If you're a current Optus customer you might be able to try ask them for a discount on your current plan as well.

Of course each to their own re data leak/breach etc. I've had to renew a licence (expired anyways when the breach happened) so had a new one altogether.

          • @Slytherin87: @Slytherin87 Just to be clear, could you leave with both phones, scot free, after you've paid for 1 month of SIM card bills (along with the monthly phone payments)?

            • @DogeConomy: That's what I confirmed with the Optus person over the phone and based on the T&c I read before signing the agreement ie re minimum cost that applies.

Jump on a call with one of the optus sales personnel and they will send you the full t&c contract to sign (which you can also go through it before signing)

  • I still haven't been billed for the S22 offer they had recently with Harvey Norman. According to chat my account is closed and no outstanding payments required. Fingers crossed.

    • if you jumped on the deal early like me and then cancelled then said 1 month from joining so maybe next first 10 days of this month

the plan even disappeared from the Optus App

or maybe yes it's free *hi five

      • I've sold the phone but kept the cash for now in case I get a bill at some stage. It'll be spent come Black Friday though as I actually need a phone, just not an s22.

        • how much you sell for and what platform?

          • @Poor Ass: Sold on FB. $850 for 256gb s22 unopened box. I listed for $850 and was overwhelmed with messages all offerring 700 or so. Just didn't respond.

I'd aim for 900 or 950 now that the jb sale is over.

            • @Gowrie29: What city?

I got $850 minus postage for 128gb s22 on eBay as they were doing free selling fees last month

        • What phone do you plan on getting?
IOS or Android? If Android, any recommendations?

          • @Lord Ra: I'm still on an S8 so any phone i see instore feels like the future. I need a decent battery for work which is why the s22 was suitable. Unsure in short.

      Pixel 7 Pro 128GB (+ Pixel 6a) $1,347.88
      Pixel 7 Pro 256GB (+ Pixel 6a) $1,497.64
  • Hi Team

Trying to wrap my head around this too.

So Buy the Phone with the $49 plan. Wait to receive the phones then cancel the plan, as its month to month. And effectively only pay $1047.64 for the two phones?

    • +1

Yes, and the handset payment are spread over a period so your not paying the it all at once. Correct me if I'm wrong on the handset payments.

      • +4

I think as soon as you cancel the plan, you have to pay off the phones right away.

        • +1

          Thats correct.
But it says "eligible Optus SIM plan"
Can't seem to find the definition of eligible Optus SIM plan for this offer. May be that doesn't include month to month plans.

    • Yes correct. Did this yesterday is for the cheapest 49 plan. If youre already an exisitng customer worth a shot asking for a cheaper plan to see if they can do anything for you.

  • +4

there will be heaps of cheap 6a on the market soon

    • I shall be on the lookout wink wink

  • Also note if you have the postpaid plan for 60 days (ie 2 months), you can get $55 cashback from cashrewards.

    • These are pre-paid plans so it's just 8.5% cashback.

      • Your wrong, this is a postpaid plan as the prepaid plans are called epic and flex. I think you're confusing month to month as prepaid as the phone companies tended to have lock in contracts for postpaid and month to month for prepaid but now are mostly doing postpaid as month to month.

        • Yes, I'm certainly confused.
          From the CIS:

You will be automatically charged via your selected credit, debit or charge card at the start of each payment cycle for recurring charges.

  • Buy both for ~$1300
    Sell pixel 6a for ~$500-$550
Acquire Pixel 7 pro for ~$800.

Not too shabby, now if only you didn't have to take out a plan with them as well.

    • Would anyone buy a pixel 6a for $500-550 given for other couple hunda can get Pixel 7 on sale.

      • It's the going rate on marketplace at the moment.
But admittedly it would likely fall into the $400's pretty soon.

    • +3

they never lock these days unless it's a prepaid phone

  • -1

better than the JB fake trade in deal

    Pixel 6a - $499
    Pixel 7 - $699
    total $1198

but if you count the bonuses and freebies on the JB Pixel 7 then not

  • +1

If you sell both phones, all is profit - the first month am I right? $76.74?
And as mentioned earlier if you use the cash rewards $21. 74?

  • Will JB hi-fi match this offer? I seem to remember they do with Telstra as these big telco have a shop front? Could be good for those people who got gift cards for those mobile plans that were advertised recently

  • +1

Does it show the 6a in the cart? I can't see it.

    • Yeah it doesn't show. Don't know why.

  • New trap to get your data and sell it on the web.

    • +1

      "SELL" lol

  • Since Optus already gave my sensitive data to cyber criminals and made my data public, I am considering taking this up.
I will apply for the new ID documents afterwards.
I locked down my credit with credit savvy and am wondering if this will cause problems if they attempt a credit check on me?

    • They will do a credit check when you will proceed with purchasing it even if online. Try and check.

    • Actually, I was thinking the same. Maybe I should jump on to this and then change my licence later.

    • Maybe I should ask to change my DOB as well…..

      • +2

Let me know once you figure out how to get this done…haha

  • +3

Don't worry, Gladys is in charge of data protection.

    • +3

      Boy am I Glad

  • confuse here, if I quit the mobile plan after 3 months, any difference for the min. cost please? anyone could help?

    • It says "eligible Optus SIM plan"
Can't seem to find the definition of eligible Optus SIM plan for this offer. Not sure if month to month plans are eligible.

      • Optus only offers month to month plans*

(exception being flybuys and Qantas plans maybe, but you usually can't add a handset repayment to those plans anyway)

        • If thats the case then it makes sense. Thanks for the clarification

      • You can't get this without choosing one of the plans they offer in the purchase process.

  • -1

come on Optus give us a Apple offer with two iPhones so I and wife can be happy 😃

    • -1

Then pass your personal info to black market.

      • It’s ready out there for everyone 😢

  • Why would you cancel the deal if paying and using it for 12 month (and keeping the phones) costs the same as keeping the phones and cancelling? Or am I not understanding it correctly? I guess my point is, why wouldn't you keep the plan until maturity?

    • Because even the cheapest plan here is $49/month. That's 3 times what I pay currently.

      • +2

Oh I realise now that $49 is extra payment that I have to make. Make sense.

  • +1

Sneaky for Optus to not clearly state what eligible plan is…

  • +1

I think there should be an extra comment in the email, similar to the previous A8 deal once you sign up. ($44.04*x12=$496.94, samsung a8 RRP)

'You are eligible for a device discount as a $44.04 per month credit for up to 12 months on service number 04xx xxx xxx. To receive this device credit you
must maintain an active mobile service on an eligible plan with Optus for the 12 months. If you terminate, port out or change to an ineligible rate plan
any remaining device credits will be forfeited and you will need to pay out in full any remaining device charges.'

  • The bonus Pixel 6a offer doesn't show up anywhere in the checkout process? Even at the very end after putting in payment details.

    • It's on the initial selection screen, if worried just take a screenshot of that screen and you should be covered if there is an issue.

      • Yeah, I went extra worried mode and ordered through online chat confirming Pixel 6a.

  • Does the plan start at the time you order or Sim activation? Planning to port my number after Xmas. TIA

    • Was scrolling through their terms & conditions while ordering through live chat, and saw this:

      Payments:
The change in your plan will happen within 4hrs of Optus being advised your service has been delivered, and you will notice the changes on your next payment.

For New Customers: You will be charged on activation of your service automatically via your automatic payment method for plan, device and applicable add-on charges.

For Existing Customers - New Service, Rate Plan Change or Recontract: You will be charged on the next payment cycle date via your automatic payment method for your plan, device and applicable add-on charges.

Edit: Okay the live chat guy confirmed and said:
Your service will be activated within 4 hrs of Optus being advised your service has been delivered. The automatic payment for your new service will be taken within 24 hours of activation.

So when the P7 was released I worked out that getting a P7 Pro and a 6A using up all the available 10% discounts, G Store $300 credit and Google One Subscription credit works out to $1427.20 for the two phones.

    Going on this plan for a Pixel 7 Pro 128GB + Pixel 6a = $1,347.88

Not bad if you missed out on the Google store deals at launch.

Although at this point I might wait and use the credits towards a 7a

    • Thanks for the calculations.
What about those student 10% off discounts, do they stack with the other discounts?
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/728951
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/728950

      • You can only use one discount at a time. So either the Google 10% off which was available back then or now the student beans one.
You can use as many store credits as you have, they are separate to the voucher codes and the only thing that stacks

I'm hoping the black friday sales will drop the 6a down to $499 again like it was just after launch, and the One Subscription which we're all waiting for is applied by then.
Then I should be able to get the 6a for ~$150 with all the credits 🤞

  • How does the Pixel 7 Pro compare to Samsung s21? My current plan with optus, which was 24 months and got the S21 free with Optus on $65 monthly plan (which work pays for) ends in February 2023.

I wonder could/ should I switch to this phone / plan now considering they leaked my details and if the Pixel 7 Pro would be an upgrade on the samsung s21?

    • +2

I've owned Pixel 7 pro for the past couple of weeks. Depends on what you consider an upgrade. Camera wise would be an upgrade but not by much, I feel most reviewers really overhyped the camera quality of Pixel 7. If you're really looking for a good camera phone, iPhone 14 pro still wins in my opinion.

Performance and efficiency also a bit dissapointing with Tensor chip, most apps will run smoothly but not good for heavy gaming app. Also with 5000mah and stock android I thought that the battery life is gonna be amazing but I was so wrong. I could only get 4-5 hours SOT with moderate usage from 9am-9pm with mix of wifi and mobile network.

Did I regret buying it? No, I am still really satisfied with the phone. I'd consider P7P a sub $1000 phone (definitely not worth to buy at RRP price) which does a really fantastic job competing with phones that cost $1500 or more.

    • I am on the same boat. I have s21 and just loooking that I should buy 7 pro or not.

  • +2

Forgive me but I'm not up on eSIM yet. The 7 appears to have 1 of each. Can you have 1 number on eSIM AND 1 on standard SIM, and therefore essentially dual SIM? And/Or does the eSIM allow for multiple numbers in itself?

    • and therefore essentially dual SIM

      Yes.

  • i hope they offer a iphone 13 if i get a iphone 14

  • Optus = no thanks. They can rot in hell

    • did you have to stand in line in the transport office?

      • They did not pay me for replacement of passport and licence. They just denied. Optus is shit.

        • Well it's free to replace licence if the number got leaked

But you have to stand in line

  • +1

Good deal for getting the physical phones.

But having Optus manage your personal data is bad deal.

If you look at the technical details, they clearly never took security of customer data seriously.

  • But it's optus..

  • +3

Now that they've been hacked, it's much less likely they'll be hacked again.

    • Lol. There is always an exploit

      • You can say that about every single carrier.

  • Disappointed I missed the HN S22 deal… sad times. Are those HN samsung deals like once a year or 18 months or something?

    • +2

There could be Samsung deal on Black Friday sales.

      • +1

It's a phone which hasn't sold well. Expect it again.

  • Thanks OP. They already have my data….I'm due for a new phone after 4 years with the xiaomi 9T. Dad also needs a new phone.

  • now that is pure silly
imagine how those who have bought the 6A when it was released t like 699 or was it 799
oh and their customer service is rock bottom from bad to worse - arrogance, rude no respect. Treats people like animals actually that's being too nice I treat dogs and cats better than Optus treats me. More like treats people like lettuce.
Destined to be always behind telstra - always and likely behind Vodafone as well.

    • +1

      lettuce was expensive

      • not always andy you see it splattered all over rubbish bin at fast foods joint

        • I said was

  • +1

I really wish I had of taken advantage of some of the preorder offers with this phone. Much regret.

    • 1900 Telstra points + $744 for the pixel 7
