Went to my local today and saw this on special for My Dan’s members. It’s finished in a Japanese whisky cask to give it a smooth, sweet finish. I’ve tried it and found that it’s really quite nice for a blend, a very tasty drop.

Japanese whisky is so expensive, they just make Japanese whisky in Scotland instead.
Except this is Scotch Whisky, Made in Scotland…
It happens to be matured in Japanese Mizunara casks…
I guess you might also say, then, that a Whisky matured in an Olorosso Sherry Cask, is therefore Spanish Whisky?
I think you've had a few too many, if you believe what you say🥃
Yeah I understand it is made in Scotland.. That is why I said it was made in Scotland. I understand that this isn't actually Japanese Whisky.
Look at the branding on the bottle. It is clear they are making this product because there is so much demand for Japanese Whisky. It is a business decision and I am not saying it is a bad thing.
You are right
This is borderline like what Chinese knife manufacturers do like saying "Japanese steel" but it means nothing, because steel is steel.
Whiskey is more multi-faceted though, like region and technique actually makes a difference even if they use Japanese mizunara casks. I'll probably give this a try.
Does that mean the balvenie Carribbean cask is a Caribbean whiskey? O.o
The price though mainly lies in the expense of the mizunara wood, which is considered one of the rarest and most expensive trees, so you can't just randomly chop one down.
People consuming the whisky faster than they can grow mizunara oak and craft the barrels.
Whisky Vault on Youtube reviewed this last week - pretty positive review, much better than the base white label. These guys are a bit of fun if you want to research some whisk(e)ys. Also recommend Scotch Test Dummies, Scotch4Dummies and of course Ralfydotcom.
I don't know what this one is like, but the Chivas Mizunara (same type of cask) was a nice drop, especially when it was in the $60-80 price range.
