This disk is usually for storage purpose instead of OS installation. For OS, M.2 is better.
I mean, not only are there cheaper storage drives, if you need more than 2tb, might be time to get a NAS.

NAS is too expensive. use retired old desktops to work as NAS is a better choice.
For file server, nothing to talk about. File share or FTP is easy.
For media server, install jellyfin.

Big difference in power consumption between a NAS and a desktop configured as one.
@dtorr: Haha correct, but hundreds of dollars can support the old desktop computer to run for a lot of years. Without a monitor, a normal gaming desktop only costs you less than 5 dollars a month if you run it 24x7.
@dtorr: And 1 gigabit ethernet is 100mb, so 1/5th the sata ssd speeds. By the time you add decent ethernet cards at both ends, never mind your household switch that won't be capable of it, you're back into decent NAS territory, but without warranty.

I'm in the same boat. I have plenty of 3.5" mechanical for bulk storage, but really holding out for a 4tb 2.5" SSD purely for games.
