So this or $20 more for Samsung 870 evo at shopping express. I have no experience with Crucial ssd. Anyone recommend.

my understanding is that the 870 EVO and the MX500's are pretty much on a par.

      • +5

Pretty sure 870 EVO has better write endurance (1200TBW)

    • You got free shipping code?

  • Thanks bought another one.

Available at local retail stores for $225 + delivery, in stock shipped from Australia.

So trade-off is, this deal is cheaper but longer wait times for shipping and less warranty certainty. if it was $200 delivered from UK, I'd give it big thumbs up. As it is, this is a lukewarm deal.

    • $225 at MSY but OOS and below average warranty reputation.

      • Yeah I’d be careful with MSY (unless they’ve significantly improved). I remember the ACCC got involved, got fined and then they had a court order up on MSY’s website for quite a while

MSY are pretty good these days tbh

Though the tellers trying to be friendly now weirds me out

This is the drive where i stash all the free games I get off Ozbargain, and never play waiting for retirement to play them all.

Waiting for GB pound to be pounded after freezing EU winter ;)
M.2 gen 5.0 will be many times faster (gen 6.0 is coming next year with crazy fast speeds).
Will try to reuse old SSDs for older gear & gradually switch to M.2

2TB is a bit not enough. Still waiting for black friday deal for a 4TB one.
This disk is usually for storage purpose instead of OS installation. For OS, M.2 is better.

    • I mean, not only are there cheaper storage drives, if you need more than 2tb, might be time to get a NAS.

      • +1

These drives are for game installations

      • NAS is too expensive. use retired old desktops to work as NAS is a better choice.
For file server, nothing to talk about. File share or FTP is easy.
        For media server, install jellyfin.

Big difference in power consumption between a NAS and a desktop configured as one.

          • @dtorr: Haha correct, but hundreds of dollars can support the old desktop computer to run for a lot of years. Without a monitor, a normal gaming desktop only costs you less than 5 dollars a month if you run it 24x7.

          • @dtorr: And 1 gigabit ethernet is 100mb, so 1/5th the sata ssd speeds. By the time you add decent ethernet cards at both ends, never mind your household switch that won't be capable of it, you're back into decent NAS territory, but without warranty.

        • Well, I just that a rasp pi lol.

    • I don't think the 4tb mx500 has a dram cache

    • I'm in the same boat. I have plenty of 3.5" mechanical for bulk storage, but really holding out for a 4tb 2.5" SSD purely for games.

      • Why not 2×2Tb like this one?

The higher capacity the rarer the deals
