Best Espresso Machine < $400

Please recommend me the best deal on an espresso machine under $400. I'm replacing a Sunbeam EM4300S that simply stopped turning on while under warranty.

I don't want one of those that heat milk in a plastic container (yuck!), and least of all a capsule machine. I prefer a stainless steel finish to plastic, and value resilience and reliability. While I'm no coffee buff, I could become one and then… I'd end up having to buy another one bc a cheapo just won't cut it šŸ˜…

What would you recommend of current deals out there? (Remember: under $400!)

    spewing I missed the ECAM22.110.B $389.40 yesterday

    • Better than the EC9155 (not to mention the aforementioned Sunbeam's and Breville's)?

        damn! spewing even more lol

        • What about Aldi's? Ryd Jeavons, FWIW, says it's the best value money can get you for A$300 (referring to the model without the attached grinder).

Don't buy any of these. Get a second hand Gaggia classic.

      • Good deal. Yes that use full size portafilter. Easier to repair in case if needed. I had Dedica > Gaggia Classic > Rancilio > Lelit

        • Is that ">" "this then that" or "better than"?

    Delonghi dedica

  • How about taking a walk on the wild side of lesser known brands, like this one for $129 on eBay ($119 with Plus), which claims to include an Italian 20 bar pump? I've noticed the standard is 15. More bars the merrier?

More bars is commonly seen in cheaper machines with restricted baskets…the higher pressure can give a more impressive crema (though not necessarily better).

The commercial machines are commonly 9 bar, but often the department store type machines are 15 bar, with a double walled basket (like a normal basket on the inside, but with an exterior skin with just one or few holes in it to create back pressure).

15 bar may have an issue with channeling. We usually adjust to get 9 bar pressure on Gaggia classic or Rancilio Silvia.
