I'm back on the market for an espresso machine after our Sunbeam EM4300S simply stopped turning on after only 4 months of use. Is this any good? And is this a good price for it?

  • Low Pressure Pre-Infusion - Gently delivers water pressure to ensure balanced flavours are drawn from all grinds
  • Thermoblock/Thermocoil - Cold water passes through the pathway within what is essentially a block of heated metal
Purge Function - Flushes the over heated water required for steaming back to the optimal espresso extraction temp
  • 220V - 240V
  • 1700W power

Original Coupon Deal

UPDATE: Upon inspection, not the best of the better deals:
* CCC shows it went for as low as $217 on Amazon just a little over 2 years ago.
* OzB shows it went for $255 at BigW (via eBay) this past June.

UPDATE 2: eBay+ subscribers get $25 off when buying from BigW via eBay.

I got mine roughly a year and a half to two years ago. I'd still pay that much for this. I don't buy coffee anymore so this was a solid investment! In saying that off memory i don't believe this is the lowest price.

Did a quick search and it seems to have gone down to about $225 previously— probs still decent if you need a coffee machine.

        • +2

Correct, not historical low. But i'd pay what i paid previously which is deffs more then this in a heatbeat. Great machine.

    Sunbeam should guarantee your machine?
My Sunbeam leaked water/steam inside and it wouldn't switch off from the panel.
Got it replaced at the retailer a couple of years ago.

    • They offered replacement or return. Can't complain about the service thus, but we're leaning towards return, and replacing it with another brand, given the problem. We recently replaced a Kenwood food processor, with a newer model even, only to find it faced the exact same problem.

Why aren't you using your rights under Aus consumer law & making a warranty claim?

    • I am. They offered to return it.

Ok cool, so you might want to wait to see if they repair, replace or refund.

If you’re in no hurry (unlike the OP), they might have a repeat of this deal closer to Christmas?

Similar price for a somewhat better machine (I think)…

I bought from Hardly at this price. Been back for repair twice, and this process alerted me to the fact that there were a lot of Breville coffee machines waiting for repair, and this model had a common flaw where internal bolts came loose causing the head seal to blow. Buyer beware.

    • somewhat better machine (I think)

Matches the model numbering and pricing. What's better about it, though?

I've had this machine for over 7 years. It's been used and abused a lot since then but it is still going strong.

The only downfall for it is that the extraction is now even. The water favours the right side of the puck, which can lead to a bit of a channel formed.

But that is only a complaint of a coffee snob. It's been amazing to me and I highly recommend

Recommend this machine without any hesitation. Converted from nespresso 6months ago and this machine can make coffee as good as any $700 range machines

Bought mine from Big W in June, love it.

Started making decent coffees right away, then got a little fussy and started weighing coffee in/water out and started making great coffees.

Remember that there's aftermarket group heads/tampers/filter tabs etc. that'll fit it.

    • Does the aftermarket group head make a difference, where did you buy it & the filter tabs?

  • +1

I highly recommend this machine if you're getting into coffee. Mine is 3 years old and going strong. It has a few really nice features like auto-purge (drops the temperature to brewing temp after steaming) and PID temp control. The build quality is great. I use the smart grinder, coffee scale, timer, and palm tamp. You won't go back to regular coffee. Latte art is still a mystery to me though. :-) The water does come from the right side so extraction can be uneven - I guess this is the difference between a starter machine and those costing more than double.
