I dont think this is back order???

It states they have stock in WA - click and collect or postage will secure live stock… not sure where the edit was from

    • I think just sold out in WA as well hence the edit

  • +7

Isn't this the cheapest ever posted?
Why would anyone upgrade to AM5 when they can get this.

    • +6

Cos 13600 is better and cheaper

      • +21

Unless you already have an am4 board. Then it makes a ton of sense.

        • +14

And there are a lot of AM4 users out there turned off at the price of new gen motherboards. Bang this sucker in and amazing performance straight up.

      • +2

Not cheaper for someone like me with an AM4 mb…

        • -3

You can buy an lga1700 board for 150 and a 13600k for 450 which is still cheaper than this 5800x3d…

          • +7

            @Toffcuz: I can get an itx z690/z790 board (I have an x570) for $150? Do tell…

            • +1

@scud70: Why does it have to be itx? And why does it have to be z690? lmao, there are many b660 boards for under 150

              • +7

@Toffcuz: Because that's what I already have and itx is my preference, why would I buy other crap like another case and a cheap B660 then put a K sku cpu on it? When I can just get 5800X3D…

      • +4

What if I want to spite Intel

        • +4

This right here is the argument scud70 should have used. Makes more sense

    • +2

Think it dipped down to $519 at PLE about a week ago, only momentarily, someone one here grabbed one.

    • Probably very strong competition from 13600f and 13700f. AM5 7000 series need to price down to stay competitive as well.

  • Hmmm now the 13600k is out this does seem a little less attractive then before, still good price tho

    • -1

According to userbenchmark? Must be true then

      • +2

Lol user bench the openly biased site against AMD that's banned but every reddit page including the bloody Intel one.

      • +3

Enough reputable outlets have released detailed reviews of AMD and Intel's current-gen lineups - that largely agree with each other - that reliable conclusions can be drawn.

  • +3

Best Gaming CPU for AM4 m/b?
For new gaming pc, probably 13600f/13700f?

  • +5

    Needs to go lower.

    • +3

Yea, ideally the $499 mark. That's what I'm holding out for if I grab one of these to upgrade my 3700x, though I've contemplated just getting a 5800x as I multitask/video edit a fair bit and 5800x can be had for under $400 on sale.

      • +4

        Lower

        • +3

          $449

          • +2

            @xrailgun: Lower

In all seriousness, the 13600K destroys this for a new system build, they can't use the DDR5 cost delta to justify this given the productivity gains.

      • I'd say the 5900x would be the way to go for mutitasking and video editing at these kinds of prices if coming from the 3700x.

EDIT: speak of the devil https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/732655

        • Damn, that was a good flashsale price! Over in under 2 hours.
I don't edit particularly much, just the few personal or friend group holiday projects, so I've always thought of the 3/5/7900x as overkill for my setup, but might have to consider it if sales like that pop up again. My Dark Rock Pro 4 is well up to the task…

          • +1

@TheBargainDog: As someone that has both a 3700x and 5900x, the performance jump isn't all that noticeable unless I'm encoding. The 3700x is still damned capable.

  • +3

Thing is if you are holding out on a 5800X3D to drop to $499 whilst already on an old gen AMD CPU, you'll lose out on the further depreciation on that too.

    • the depreciation doesn't drop anywhere near as fast in absolute $ terms.

    • Perhaps, but that also depends if you plan on selling your old CPU, which I'm unsure of at this stage, might use for a secondary PC later on. I'd probably be hardpressed to get $250 AUD for my 3700x right now anyway.
Also, given 3000 series is a few years old already, I'd imagine initial depreciation on these newer CPUs will outpace the further depreciation on last last gen, but I could be wrong.
Black Friday is coming up in a month too, so here's hoping we see some better deals then.

  • +2

Typical. Like 2 weeks after I got mine for $698 ha ha

    • +1

Thats over the launch price of $649 + postage

  • +2

ill upgrade to one of these for $200 2-3 years from now when i feel like my 5700X needs to be replaced. :)

    • +1

Or sell your 5700x now for $350 and spend the same money????

      • So it wont turn out to be a Intel i7 7700k issue where that CPU went up in price due to demand and the discontinued production.

        • Not sure what that means?

      • +2

The 5700x sells for $369 new .. how would i get $350.. also i did say if it needs to be replaced so i may change my mind and want to upgrade to the 7800X3D or the 8800X3D Zen5 .. who knows. 3 years is a long time in tech

        • +1

You do you haha. Each to their own

  • +2

Competition is nice, thanks intel 13th gen that’s bring amd cpu price down. Hope amd can do the same on GPU for nvidia.

  • +2

Wonder if we can get down to $500ish come Black Friday? I am so tempted to bite this coming from a 3700x.

  • Give us a 5600G deal under $200 delivered please.

  • Lame, ordered one from BPC tech like 36 hours ago and it's already shipped. feelsbadman

  • Thanks OP, back ordered one for delivery. Should be a nice upgrade to the R5 3600.

    • +3

      I'm on a 3600 too and everytime I see a new 5800X3D deal I think about pulling the trigger…

      • 3700x. Just bit the bullet on this.

        • How much do you guys reckon you can sell the 3700x for on the used market?
          Around 200?

          • +1

@Handymancan: $225-$250 AUD I'd say, based on sellers asking $300+ still online which they probably don't sell for.

            • -1

@TheBargainDog: Just wondering why anyone would pay this price for a secondhand 3700x?

              • @yobeets: Reread my comment, it was based on sellers asking 300+ for used 3700x most places I found. You may or may not get over $200, that depends on the buyer.

            • -1

@TheBargainDog: Sure…. because people would definitely pay $225 for a used CPU that is worse in every way compared to a brand new $219 one (5600X). Where do you guys find all these buyers? Wait… do you live next to sn00kered that can sell a second hand CPU with $20 less than a brand new one?

              • @misu p: Hey dont bring me into it - i was only talking in jest!

              • @misu p: As i said in my comment, it was just based on sellers asking $300+ for used 3700x most places I found. You may or may not get over $200, that depends on the buyer. No need for the toxicity!
Also, yes the 5600x is faster for gaming and many other tasks due to higher IPC and cache, but the 3700x has 2 more cores/4 more threads, and averages 5-10% more performance in many raw multithreaded workloads, so it's still a good CPU. Overclock the snot out of it with a good cooler and who knows what it could do.

        • Bugger it, bought it on the backorder for the Vic warehouse delivery tomorrow @ $549

      • +2

I'm on a 2600X and am on standby for sub $500 prices lol

    • +1

Thats what I upgraded from too! No complaints so far

    • Also on a 3600, missed this one this time.

  • +1

    9% Faster on average @ 1440p

Vs. a 5800X, I guess that's in 'unworthy upgrade' territory.

    • +1

It improves 1% lows for a smoother experience

    • +4

Averages don't do this one justice. Some games like Assetto Corsa Competitzione, Borderlands 3, Factorio, Stellaris, and a bunch of MMOs absolutely love this processor. 1% lows can be dramatically better as well.

It's basically as fast as it gets on AM4 for gaming (competitive with a 12900K/13600K/7600X on average), with the advantage of not needing to replace motherboard/RAM/cooler if you're someone who's already an AM4 user.

I was able to upgrade to one on my 5 year old X370 board with no issues to speak of (after AMD finally relented on unlocking BIOS support).

It won't be worth it for everyone compared to a 5600/5600X for example, but if you play games that really like V-Cache, I think it's absolutely worth it if you're intending to stick with AM4 for a few more years.

  • Getting tempting… Anyone know of games where I'm bottlenecking the 5600 non-X at 1440p with a 3080? 165Hz display

    • +2

It's not an exhaustive list but TechPowerUp's review of the 13600K used an RTX 3080 at a few resolutions, and the 5600 and 5800X3D are included.

Scroll through the actual game graphs to get an idea: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i5-13600k/19.h…

Note that this is average framerate, no percentiles (1%, 0.1% lows).

      • Appreciate that, some big jumps in certain titles but probably not worth it to me

        • +2

No worries. It's very much game dependent. A 5600 does a reasonable job of keeping up with an RTX 3080 at 1440p generally speaking. Titles that are very CPU heavy or single-thread bound tend to be the ones that'll see the largest difference.

The other scenario you'd see improvements is in titles where the balance of performance is right on the edge between your CPU and GPU - you might not see a massive improvement to average performance, but your percentile figures can improve a reasonable amount (i.e. less stuttering, keeping you closer to your upper refresh rate limit, resulting in a smoother experience).

I upgraded to a 5800X3D from a 3900X and the difference was night and day in some games. If I were on a Ryzen 5000 chip though? It'd be a harder sell for sure. You can always sell-on your current chip to reduce the cost of upgrading but it's still a reasonably significant cost for mixed improvements, depending on what you're playing.

    • +1

Spiderman, Cyberpunk, MSFS 2020… anything you can think of that notoriously CPU heavy, this CPU would allow your 3080 some extra room to stretch it's legs.

      • Looking at the TechPowerUp review posted above, Cyberpunk is totally GPU limited at 1440p. Definitely a few games that it gives a big jump to though

  • Thanks Got one, replacing my r5 3600 and pairing the 5800x3d with 3060ti. Hope to get more frames on star citizen and other cpu intensive games

    • I have the same rig (3600 + 3060ti) and the cpu is not a bottleneck in my case. It's the gpu.

      • I went 5700X $379 with Asus Tuf RX6800 $670 both new and on sale at the time.. not sure i need an upgrade for a while.

      • Depends on what you're playing. There are certainly some games that'll see benefit - some small, others quite large, and then some will see none at all. It also depends on what resolution you're playing at.

  • +1

    price showing $559 for me

    • +1

ya they seemed to have increased it.

    • +1

Yep locked my in for $549. They must have realised deal too good for now

  • +2

    Same price at pcbyte now

    • +2

picked one up from pcbyte for $558 inc shipping.. Thanks for the heads up

  • Ive been looking to jump on this to stay am4, but with intel releasing ive thought about upgrading.

If you had a am4 or a new i tel mobo already, which would you go for to have the best gaming experience?

Im not up with Intel gear at all.

    Cheers.

    • +1

5800X3D can beat even 13th gen Intel in some games but others it falls behind. If you're gaming at 1440p or 4K then I'd just grab a 5800X3D. Save the money for a GPU upgrade in the future. If you need your CPU for more than gaming then it may be worth going for Intel, but you need to factor in a new motherboard too.

    • +1

someone post this link above, 5800x3D staying quite close to 13600 in gaming. If your PC just for gaming (if you need pc for productivity as well then difference story), you could save yourself a new motherboad. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i5-13600k/19.h…
You never know 14th or 15th still using same m/b, so i wouldn't worry about future saving ect. I probably choose to save now than later.

      • I currently run a 5900x and 3090

        • +1

I will not pay $200 for just few fps from 5900x to 5800x3d.

          • @stevelo: I switched to the 5800x3d from the 5900x - and it has totally been worth it. I run a 3090 and with the 5900x would get 80-100 FPS on Tarkov with my 3840x1600 38inch monitor, with the 5800x3d I am getting minimum 110FPS - 170FPS give or take.

So - if you only game, and want a bump in performance similar to a GPU swap, for $200 bucks out of pocket might be worth it.

    • If you’ve got the am4 board already 5800x3d is the best option, I personally only recommend new gen if people also have to upgrade mobo anyway

  • +1

I bought one of these for $609 + ~$23 express shipping on 29/9 (from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727525) but even though it showed as in stock when I bought it, I somehow missed out and was told it was backordered. It wasn't actually dispatched until 10/10 and I didn't receive it until the 14/10. I can't see anything on PLE's FAQ about it, but does anyone know if they do price difference refunds or anything like that?

I feel double gypped because I see the Uncharted bundle only applies to purchases after 11/10.

insert Bad Luck Brian meme here

  • PLE now says back in stock on the 30/11/22. That's a long wait. Scorptec has stock returning tomorrow but I wonder if their date will be extended as well…

    • They just extended to 11/11
