  • Do the grips still peel off these eventually?

    • +4

If it's like the current series 2 then the grips aren't stuck on. They are moulded.

      • +1

I thought they were moulded as well, but somehow my series 2 grip has started peeling right next to the LB button.

    • Unsure about series 2, but it was a super easy to replace those parts with some I grabbed on Amazon or Ebay when my Gen 1 grips began to peel.

      • Oh really? I can't find any guides/parts on how to fix, this is my second elite with the problem on gen1.

        • Might be cheaper options, this is the first I found, but something like this will do the trick if that’s the part peeling for you as it was on my controller.

          https://www.amazon.com.au/eXtremeRate-Rubberized-Xbox-One-El…

From memory when I was buying a few years ago there was kits with both sides as well as some places selling just left or right if you only need half.

          • @Smigit: Oh I see, it's like the whole thing! That's cool.

Yeah I need it on both sides, as well as on the inside side if that makes sense (this looks like it's only the outer half?)

            Thanks for the link!

  • So this doesn’t come with different thumb sticks or a case. Does it even come with the paddles on the back of it for the extra buttons?

    • +1

No paddles or Dpad. Hence the name "Core". But it should be compatible with all the accessories from the Gen 1 Elite Controller.

      • +2

I believe the paddles and dpads are transferrable from the Elite V1 to the V2/Core, but the thumb sticks from the V1 to the V2/Core aren't unless I'm mistaken

        • +1

I've read that before too, I believe you're correct on the thumbsticks.

  • Isn't this the cheaper version that everyone clowned on last time it was posted on ozbargain?

  • +6

elite controller without the paddles, so basically a normal controller.

    • +1

Paddles are rather cheap to acquire though, which makes the Core a better option than $250ish for a Series 2.

    • Can you change the colour of the illuminated Xbox logo on a normal controller?

  • +6

Not too sure how a warranty works with it being a direct import, you get a two year warranty if you purchase from the MS Store though. Could be worth the $20 difference to some.

    • +7

Stackssss of quality control issue posts about these on Reddit etc. I’d make sure you have warranty coverage you’re comfortable with just in case.

      • Yeh I'd be keen to see actual numbers they're getting returned etc, I'm sure there are a lot of people without problems, and no doubt there will always be more posts about people with issues than without, but not a day goes by I don't see a post or two about the issues online. When it works as intended I think it's a brilliant piece of equipment and we are pretty "lucky" in Australia with our warranties and refund processes, I feel for those in countries who only get 90 days / 6 months etc.

If you're picking one of these up I'd absolutely be paying the $20 extra to get it from the MS Store / locally.

      • I returned my elite series 2 like 3 times. They basically sent me a new/refurbed one that looked brand new each time.

Annoying that it needed warranty, but the support was excellent and easy.

Had stick drift, a shoulder button that would occasionally get stuck down and a b button that only registered when fully pressed so different issues each time

    • Yep, I returned 1 of the original models with a button that wasn't registering every so often.

I'm not rough at all with them, and definitely don't overuse them.

In Australia you automatically get warranty under the ACL regardless of which storefront you buy it from.

      • +1

Yeh but as this is mentioned to be a direct import doesn't that muddy the waters a little? Any controller that I buy here in Aus has a two year warranty attached to it when looking up the serial number, however a controller I got sent over from the US only had 90 days of warranty attached to it.

At the same time obviously showing warranty on my Microsoft Devices page isn't the same as the ACL coverage, just will be a little less seamless one would imagine.

        • -1

The warranty is based on where the purchaser is located, and therefore where the company is doing business. It's a common misconception that overseas companies are able to avoid the laws of Australia. The contract is with the seller and the buyer, not any other third party.

Also, companies impose their own warranties as an attempt to curb the rights of the consumer under the ACL. You can't however reduce a warranty, you can only extend it.

          • @Fuego: If the seller is say some small business overseas, while true they are meant to abide by the laws here, good luck getting that enforced.

ACCC may take on someone like Valve but its a very different case if you were talking about a $100 sale from some tiny business in China. You might as well say they can avoid the laws, they do all the time.

In this case the seller is apparently "f digital". No idea who or where they are.

            • -1

@Duff5000: Then just do a credit card chargeback. Problem solved.

I see the misconception "the law exists but isn't enforced" thrown around a lot. It's not the ACCC that is enforcing these laws for minor purchases.

              • @Fuego:

Then just do a credit card chargeback. Problem solved.

that doesn't help you after 120 days.

It's not the ACCC that is enforcing these laws for minor purchases.

Then who is? Its fine to say "It's a common misconception that overseas companies are able to avoid the laws of Australia" but if it is unenforceable then how is it a misconception?

                • -1

@Duff5000: You can request chargebacks after the 120 day period. It's just that the bank 'may' reject it. If they reject it then I'm off to AFCA to appeal.

As I said, people not understanding how to actually enforce the laws in Australia does not mean they cannot be easily enforced. From all the comments I always read here, OzBargain seems to have a lot of trouble with financial and legal literacy.

Feel free to read on the ACCC page where they clearly state that they DO NOT resolve individual disputes and are instead present to educate:

Have you had that work after 120 days or are you just assuming it might? Either way i wouldn't say that is as easy as you are making out.

Turn the smug BS down. I essentially said they didn't and gave an example of what they will go after. I only mentioned ACCC as you didnt bother to mention how you were asserting this "easy" process of enforcing ACL was going to happen.

Do you always come across like this?

    F

  • nowhere in the add it says its brand new.

dont do it, my deal flogs 2nds and returns

    • You wouldn't think many used new models would be around though?

  • +1

    Aesthetically pleasing

    • Can do even better as it was added to the Xbox Design Labs this last week or so too.

      • Yeah but there are 15 less colours to choose from for the body, back, dpad's for the elite controller compared to a regular. I'll probably get one of each when I get around to it since some of the colours I want for the elite are only available for the regular.

  • +1

Hunk of junk. If you're not 100% on the warranty I'd avoid this.

I've never broken an X-Box controller EXCEPT this one.. three times.

    • Since when do xbox controllers come with a warranty? Ive been through so many 😪 always ends up pointing up or down permanently on the joystick. Been through at least 8-10 xb1/series1 controllers.

      • If you've been through that many normal controllers, I wouldn't go anywhere these ones. They'll probably break with you just looking at them.

And yes, a controller should last a 'reasonable' amount of time without breaking (statutory warranty).

        • True, I am also sick of buying recharging kits and or AA's.

          We'll see…

I wasn't aware core unit was available until I saw this on Mydeal.

      • In Australia everything you purchase from a store is covered under warranty as per the ACL.

      • Still have the faulty ones? They are not hard to fix at all.

You can buy the piece for next to nothing or just use one as a donor to fix another 3.

First time may take 15-20 min but once you have done it once you can do it again in probably 5 min.

I do, have three still with this issue.

May do this or at least try.

          Thanks for the info!

  • "Re-engineered components" Nope. It has identical internals to the extremely poorly made S2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWstlSbOIWA

Eb Games are selling this at $149 with trade in of an xbox one or series controller, not including eb world bonus. Ie. Price goes down further with % bonus

Normal trade in value of xbox one (not series) is like $23.

I got one and it had a faulty Y button and effortlessly had it replaced with another. Ie walked in and swapped over with staff.

    Hopefully it's just a one time return/experience.

  • FWIW… I have a S1 Elite and the rubber grips were peeling off so ended up getting this cover… https://www.amazon.com.au/eXtremeRate-Anti-Slip-Silicone-Con…
