  • Use ExpressVPN and connect to India via Singapore. Sign up and use the 30 Day Money Back Guarantee to get a refund

Don't you need an Indian CC if you subs via India?
It does not like any of my oz, revolt, wise CCs last time I tried

    • Anyone try Ubank?

      • I've been using ubank for over a year now

    • +4

No need for an Indian CC, I have been using my Coles Mastercard to pay INR189/month for this for almost 2 years now.

      • Hmmm, not having any luck signing up with my Coles Mastercard.

    • +5

      I’m using 28 Degrees

  • -3

    Just don't mention the WEF…

    • why not

      • A lot of conspiracy theorists have been overreacting the past 2 years to this plan on their website called 'The Great Reset'.
They are busy scaring themselves with ghost stories when most of it appears to be sustainability policies, carpooling, public transport, renewable energy.
Also it's been on their website for like the past 5-8 years now so it's a bit late to complain about it now.

        • Agreed. Just another knot in the knickers of the conspiratorial, paranoid fringe.

        • -1

If you cannot see the bigger picture by now your probably scheduled for Myocarditis soon anyways. Ignorance is bliss until it grabs you by the short and curlys and opens your eyes.

  • I really don't want to give YT any money but I despise all those ads so much and they just keep getting worse. I really started considering getting Premium.

    • Totally worth it if you watch a lot of YouTube

I’m paying $20 a month but still happy

      • +6

Not to mention free YouTube Music which allows you to upload your own music into their cloud if it's missing from the Library which is an absolute clutch feature depending on how deep your music library is.

      • +2

        Do you even Ozbargain?

      • +1

Yeah I do watch it more than anything else. And the ads pop up always at the worst possible time

      • +3

I can’t stand ads, but $20 is too much in my humble opinion.

        • +2

Yeah, waaay too much for content they didn't even create.

      • +1

What is ads? Oh.. I’ve been with YT premium I totally forgot about YouTube having ads.. worth every cents IMHO

      • +1

Had a look at NewPipe for Android yet? Seems pretty good for what it does (offline play, no ads etc).

        • Thanks Abaddon! I've been looking for an alternative to Vanced for my NVIDIA Shield TV, and this works perfectly. No more ads!

    • +2

especially my little one to to young to press skip. it is so much pain with ads

      • That sucks. They learn your ad tolerance over time. So the kids not skipping can make you suffer through more as well.

    • +4

I just use Adblock & I don't get any ads

    • me, too for the longest time.
but my cheap ass been waiting for those free 3mths+ offers

    • +4

SmartTube Next is a must if you have any kind of Android Box/TV.

Great YouTube alternative which removes all the ads and even skips sponsored ads in the middle of a video.
      https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTubeNext

Youtube Vanced is still working for Android phones if you want ad-free YouTube.

      • +1

        +1
Have been using both for years. Unfortunately Vanced is starting to now show ads scrolling through the Homepage, however nothing yet during playback of videos… yet.

I've recently installed Revanced and it's been ok so far. Although it's still in development.

    • Please just download the Adblocker extension on your PC or the Adblocker browser on your phone. I'm genuinely concerned for y'all

I wish I had the know how to get this and Netflix from another country up and running. Have tried following instructions posted here on these but don’t seem to have the aptitude for it! I’m paying $24 a month for Netflix.
Would pay someone to help me get this sorted start to finish

    • -1

You need a credit card in the country you have your Netflix account. You can use VPN to access content from other countries, but what defines your main region is the credit card you use to pay the subscription.

      • +1

How does one go about getting an Indian or Argentinian credit card?
        Thanks

        • -1

Not sure but I assume you'd have to be a citizen or legal resident.

        • +1

You could look for gift cards (online) for these services in the currency of the country you wish to be a new citizen. Like Turkey or Argentina.

        • +1

You don't need it. Here's what worked for me:
          - sign up for a local Netflix account
          - add a local credit card
          - cancel the account
          - buy a Turkish Netflix card from G2A.com, or similar
          - VPN to Turkey
          - log in with your old Netflix account
          - sign up to a plan using the Turkish gift card

when the Turkish gift card expires it will go back to the stored (AU) credit card

      • +1

No you don't! Going through Turkey for the premium plan and pay $9 per month using a Bankwest Breeze mastercard

        • Mmmm ok cause if I try to use my AU CC in another country it won't let me

          • @thepurist: Actually i lie.

$9 is for Netflix through Turkey.

Youtube Premium costs me $1.89 through Argentina. I used this guide and it worked the first time. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/705847

            Proof: https://imgur.com/a/1yeIhu3

          • +2

@thepurist: Use a gift card first, and then add your cc as an alternative payment method afterwards. When the gift card balance is finished it will deduct from your cc automatically.

I also couldn’t get it to accept my cc at first but worked with this method.

            • @BangkokBreakfast: Cheers mate

              • @thepurist: +1 for the gift card method.

All you have to do is cancel your current subscription. Wait for it to run out. Change country to Turkey (with vpn). Pay using a Turkish netflix gift card. When the money on the gift card runs out, it defaults back to your credit card that you already had on file with them and it works.

    • For an existing account, let the plan, use VPN, access Netflix and reactivate account. Or try other suggestions in previous Netflix deals. TRY gift cards are also pretty easy to find

    • Buy a visa or mastercard gift card from said region for Netflix to work.

I did it before Netflix started requiring local credit / debit cards so it works with my commbank one but this obviously isn't possible anymore.

    • Easiest way to get turkey netflix is with a Turk netflix gift card from www.g2a.com and Turkey vpn for the sign up. I could never get my credit card working.

  • ive been using the ios web version of youtube, get less ads than the app but the UI sucks.

  • I had this for several years, paying $2.50 for YT premium through India, until my card expired and when I tried to renew, YT didn't let me. Had to switch the address to Australia and now I'm paying $15/ month. Still worth it in my opinion if you watch a lot of youtube.

    • You need to follow the above process to renew it on a new card.

  • +1

Do you need to wait until current subscription expires, still on Argentina

    • Yes I would like to know too!

      • I cancelled argentian, which was set to renew 25 Oct

I then purchased indian 12 month prepaid, which commences 26 Oct.

I then tried to purchase the subscription with a commencement date of Oct 2023 but my card will have expired by then so it didn't go through

  • -6

are you gonna ever stop exploiting india?

  • I'm probably going to stick to Argentina unless they increase it further, it's currently only $1.50 more than India per month.

    • increase incoming

      • They already increased it by 3.3x

    • 3 times from now beginning on the 21 of Nov

  • +1

use an ad blocker on youtube its free and no ads.

    • +1

There's exclusive content on Youtube, bunch of features on the official mobile app (if you use it) and chromecast doesn't have ads (you can't adblock that), there's also Google music.

You get a lot for $2.50.

      • +1

You can use the older Vanced apps for both video and music (separate apps). Casting kind of works if you cast the whole mobile screen.

        • Casting the mobile screen doesn't work in a lot of situations, I've had people come over and cast videos to the screen and we sit through several ads before each video, really kills the vibe, asking them to cast their mobile screen would just be terror.

You can certainly use Vanced etc. and I think if you don't use Google Music anyway you can avoid needing the official app features for sure, but having it all for around $3 is not a bad deal.

          Personally I don't use Spotify.

    • how on mobile app?

      • Use dns.adguard.com as your secure/private DNS.

      • The "Brave" mobile app seems to work pretty well.

    • Any method to avoid YouTube ads without a premium subscription is flaky at best and unreliable in the long run. This is coming from someone that used to use vanced. $20 a year for premium saves a lot of hassle if u use YouTube heaps, want to use the app on a smart TV etc

    • +2

you know nothing of international law.

    • +3

      financial gain

Save a bit of money but failed to make profit. Wait, did you want to join my family plan?

    • +3

No worries mate, thanks for subsidising my cost by paying full price xoxoxo

    • +1

Be a customer of Medibank and Optus and you provide real address, real personal info and details to hackers for further financial loss.

I don’t get how the world works.

  • I couldn't get India to work so used Turkey (TRY 29.99 / AUD$2.50)

Note: they may not have put their prices up yet either.

    • +1

that's the updated (new) price already

    • +2

Yep went from 16.99 to 29.99 TL
      a month
      Still worth it

    • I've been using Turkey family plan (since I'm subscribed to Turkey's Google One) and got the same email. TRY 25.99 to TRY 59.99 (~$5.14). More than 100% increase. Ouch

  • +1

Was wondering do I need a new account or can I just change my current Argentinian account to an indian address and pay as per normal with vpn etc etc.

  • +1

Do you guys on the Indian YouTube get Indian music recommendations now?

    • You may get them initially, until it picks up the music you like and starts populating in place of the Indian music.

    • +2

I got recommended Punjabi MC but that tracks a banger so all good

  • Hmmm on Surfshark to India and it is show 11.99 UKP?

    • Do you mean GBP?

  • +2

Is this likely to get your account/email nuked or is it without risks? Is it better to have a burner primary email and add yourself as a family member?

I'm a pleb and haven't relocated to Argentina or abroad previously although I have the tickets to do so.

    • Same, would like to know this as well.

    • You subscribed with your Australian credit card whilst staying at an AirBNB in Argentina, and you haven't change it back yet, so what?

    • Youtube make you prove your address or something, which you won't be able to do, then they cancel the premium.
I think that is the worst that actually happens. I know technically they can ban your google account but haven't heard that happening

    • I have been on this trick for a while now. No issues for YouTube or Netflix.

    • Just use a burner email… Why even link it to your real account as a family member? Is it that important to have YouTube premium linked with your real email? If it's your watch history your worried about, just start watching the stuff u normally do and the algorithm will pick it up

  • i get £11.99/month

going on turkey vpn, says it's 23.99 PLN? what am i doing wrong? :(

    • turkey vpn, says it's 23.99 PLN

$2.04 AU / month. Sounds about right.

      • Google conversion says $7.80

    • Try incognito mode. With the vpn. If still doesn’t work you need a different vpn

  • ING card not working for me anymore, I was on India family plan on same ING card before jumping on to ARG

  • I have an argentinia acc and the setting up of making one takes so much of your time, it is such a hassle. Is the price raised that significant enough to warrant a change? How much is the difference? If I am correct it's 119 ARS right? to 389ARS

There are new laws in India that limits you from successfully using the VPN for this purpose which is why you've noticed little to no VPN connections to India. I would've thought this would be the case across all VPN including Express?

Another problem, making a gmail account has gotten much harder. Require your mobile number FROM that country,

    • You'd be saving around $18 AUD a year switching over to India, or $23 if you go with the annual plan.

      • What about their India laws around VPN if anyone knows? Isn't it difficult to circumvent that?

That was one of the reason why I gave up with india account. Other is Google gmail requiring your mobile

  • I had only just signed up for the Argentinian one. I think I’m still in the first month of the free access. Lol. I didn’t go with the Indian one because nord stopped their service. Might have to get express vpn too.
