[VIC] Philips 65" 4K OLED Android Ambilight TV $2,499 (C&C / In-Store Only) @ Harvey Norman

260

For anyone holding out for a discounted OLED, this is not quite as good as the Amazon Prime day deal but still a great discount (was previously nearly $4000) compared to something like an LG OLED 65", or even a 55". Only thing is in-store C&C only (no Sydney stores, some in Melbourne), and… Gerry.

It's a fantastic-looking TV running Android 9 using the LG CX panel from 2020. Ambilight really does make movies more immersive and a soundbar isn't needed in my experience. Keep in mind the motion and colour settings might need some adjustment to suit your tastes, and pretty much any OLED older than this year's models are more suited to movie watching as the screen dims noticeably in bright TV broadcast scenes to protect itself.

  • 4K120HZ?

It's limited to 60Hz at 4K but the panel does support 120Hz. I should've added that there's no HDMI 2.1 so it's not optimal for next-gen console gaming. Here's a couple good reviews: 1, 2

      • +6

not worth it then, for that price you should be getting 120hz and 2 hdmi 2.1s

        • +2

Umm no because a lot of people that perhaps aren't on OzBargain don't game (on the latest consoles) and just watch TV and movies with their OLEDs. Myself included, I just have a Switch not a PS5 or Xbox. I find great value in a fast Android OLED TV with Ambilight and don't need anything more. I'd say you're SOOL scrounging around for a 65" LG OLED for anything less than $2800.

@Techie4066: Paying $2500 for a 2.5 year old panel is just insane and you defending this old tech is even more ridiculous, we are half way through the yearly cycle black friday or boxing day should get close to those prices again and at least you have future proofed yourself, but then again each to their own

            • -1

@solidussnake: Hard disagree because something like a brand new LG CX or C1 (very similar - check out Rtings please) is all I need and Ambilight is a bonus. Sometimes the OzBargain spirit of having the latest and greatest is unnecessary, obviously I'm not forcing anyone to buy. Keep in mind this model arrived on our shores late last year to HN and early this year to Amazon - not long.

              • @Techie4066: Just because it uses an older panel from LG doesn't mean it has a good processor, upscaling, motion the way it processes colour etc we are up to C2 so at this price it still doesn't make sense ,I feel your trying to justify your purchase because it's slightly cheaper than LG or Sony but each to their own

                • -1

@solidussnake: jUsT bEcAuSe you haven't read the reviews or watched HDTV's test. Go away.

@solidussnake: You must be top tog then "bro", bow down to our LG 77" OLED-owning lord! Must've dropped some big bucks for that one guys!!!

                          • @Techie4066: Nah just like to pay for quality

                            • @solidussnake: The quality of

good processor, upscaling, motion the way it processes colour

Can drop many grand on a TV but can't evidence his assertions or do the most minimal background research before making a claim about another product…

Hope you're feeling really good about paying a premium for the same panel and very similar processing.

Has the Philips TV brand name been sold off to a Chinese company like the Toshiba, JVC etc brand names have?

      https://www.afr.com/work-and-careers/leaders/why-philips-got…

Yes. Along with Loewe, Blaupunkt, Akai and many others

    55" is $1599 @ Amazon

    • Worth posting but 5 left so it's a limited quantity deal

      • +3

got my 55' c1 for $1800… hard to justify this deal…

        • Not sure a $1800 55" OLED with an LG or Samsung panel will be achievable this year, nor has it been for many months. The past deal's 48 upvotes isn't something to scoff at for a Philips TV keeping in mind it has a CX panel only one year older than your C1's. Maybe it's not the 55OLED804 $1119 fire sale but it's good value.

@Techie4066: I got mine late june. We should be able to find similar deals this boxing day/cyber day… not far away

            • -1

@HD9990: True but what you're getting in essence is the same for 200 bucks less in the Philips, plus Ambilight which is a total boon imo

…not sure why the negs, it has an LG CX panel but you do you LG loyalists!

    Unofficial OzBargain OLED tier list

    Reputable - LG, Sony, Samsung
    Probably OK - Philips
    Probably BS - Hisense
    BS pricing - Loewe
Never heard of them - Metz 65" for $1.7K
    Get stuffed Australia - Panasonic

    • does Hisense even have OLEDs for sell here?

      • +1

They have two- the X8H and the X9H. Both use the Vidaa OS. Know nothing about it but I would prefer Android/Google OS. No reviews on it as Hisense give Australia the nerfed versions of their TV's so all of the reviews are based on the superior US versions.

        • -2

Both use the Vidaa OS. Know nothing about it but I would prefer Android/Google OS.

Just get the one with the best panel and drive it off a Nvidia shield pro.

        • +1

Had a Hisense running VIDAA. Complete sh*te. Slow and glitchy. Returned it and got a Sony with Google TV. Works a treat.

        • +1

Vidaa sucks. Slow, ancient apps, apps t that don’t use available decoding, etc. Regretful purchase.

    • +1

This list is pretty spot on. I won't go any lower than a Philips for a budget TV buy.
I find Philips menu navigation precision matches my expectations better than all the other lower tier brands.

  • Showing OOS on website, but some Melbourne stores including Preston and Fountain Gate have limited stock.
