Bluesolar isn't the same as there isn't built in bluetooth. You can add a module to it, to add BT - albeit for an additional cost.

      • Ah didn’t see that cheers!

  • Is this for PV > (this unit) > battery ? As in not tied to an inverter?

  • I have the 75 | 15 which is called "Bluesolar" and does have built in BT (unlike the 100 | 20 Bluesolar go figure). I've thrown 270+ watts at it (nominal max at 15A is 250 watts) and it keeps its cool.

Only weakness is the app - if there's a firmware update, you can't access the parameters of the controller until the update is completed. Not very useful when you're out bush with poor or no reception. Controller still works though.

The firmware updates are released with the app, so if you're forced to update you can do so without internet.

Sounds like you have the SmartSolar 75/15 as BlueSolar definitely don't have Bluetooth built in.

      • Made me look :) - yes you're right, I have the "Smart Solar" 75 | 15. My update experience happened when there was really marginal coverage, and the update couldn't be downloaded. YMMV…

        • bamzero is correct about the update. Also, the 75/15 mppt maxes out at approx 220w for a 12v lfp, 440w for a 24v lfp. Over provisioning the pv is a good idea

Why does something like this need updates? Can't manufacturers test the bloody things before release?

          • @dreamscene: Sometimes it's bug fixes, sometimes improvements

One of the recent updates adds a nice feature of live data broadcast where you have to option to see the stats on the device list page without connecting directly to the device. If you have multiple controllers it's great as you can see the info from all of them on the one page.

Not all updates are mandatory in that you still view the live data, but if you want to change settings then you are forced to update. Some are deemed critical and are forced regardless.

        • The forced Victron updates are very frustrating. I've got 3 bits of gear and reckon something needs an update every time I try to connect. .
