30% of a pushbike for only $2199? Ken Oath mate, might as well get 2 so I've got spares.

    • +5

No - this is the bits to go on a bike. You still need to have a frame.

    • +2

might as well get 2 so I've got spares.

      Nah build a tandem.

    • Old mate Ken Oath

        Yes?

It gets cheaper during the 20-25% off clearance, most recently a few weeks ago

    • How often do they happen?

    • its not included in the current 25% off clearance.

Is this similar to buying a deconstructed burger?

    • +5

Yes, if the burger had only one chainring.

      • And no bun

        • No lettuce

  • Where does the Sram Force rank as compared to Ultegra, 105 etc? I forget!

    • +5

Probably Ultegra; being the one below Red

      • +1

Cool, thanks. Sorry, I should have just used the googles.

    • +3

Should be Ultegra. See table - https://i.imgur.com/ehyxubj.png

    • +2

Closest most to Ultegra. But it's 1x, so more CX orientated.

  • +11

What RAM timing should i be running this on? Also would upping the voltage help?

    • +1

      Is SRAM better than DRAM?

      • I recall SDRAM was, not sure about SRAM or what RAM technology is up to now.

      • It's better, but less economical - you would still expect a fair bit for $2199! :)

its right there is the name.

  • +1

Wow, That gear ratio range is limiting, don't think about climbing hills.

    • +1

      Yes, a 50T chainring is big for a 1x

      • Yes need a slightly smaller chainring AND a much wider cassette.

    • 50/36 is equivalent to 39/28 or 36/26. That is ok for hills. People used to run 39/21 or 23 on race bikes.

      • That's what the old school pros ran. I'm a mere mortal, I struggle with 34/28. I live in a hilly area, 20% grade just to get home.

        • +1

39/25 Standard crank setup here! Did Amy's Gran Fondo this year on it. On an old Colnago. I know people say spinning is grinning/winning but gotta grind it out sometimes. More that I'm just too cheap to upgrade.

  • +1

If the pros are moving away from SRAM is this really a deal for the average jo

    • +1

Jumbo are switching to SRAM (probably getting paid to though)

      • Yes, money speaks unfortunately

        • Not always. Sky famously switched from their sponsored tyres after Richie Porte was sliding out on them at the back of the peloton.

1x? My Big W Repco bike with Shimano SIS 27 speed has more gears!

    • +5

And my 1983 Ford Laser has more gears than a Tesla Model S.
And we all know more is better!

      • +1

Was only joking! Yes 1x is good although I’d still stick with a front derailleur for road bike so you have more range. This might be good for a gravel setup or a quick commuter though.

        • +1

Ditto on the 2x front being my preference.

Although I agree on the 1x being perfect for a commuter (I have a 40km round trip to the office) but $2k is a lotta groupset for a daily.

          • @henno: Agree - I’d be way too nervous leaving a commuter that fancy out, even in the lock cage at work.

Another advantage of the Repco bike - no worries if it gets stolen!

            • +1

@bulletbill88: We've had multiple bikes and scooters stolen from our very fancy lock cage at work.
I have a chain and lock that stays there and is embarrassingly large, but one bike was stolen with a cordless grinder so what are you gonna do. The building has very good footage on the CCTV cameras but honestly, the police are far to busy with other stuff to even be interested in a pesky stolen bike.

              Repco BSO FTW!

(I didn't neg your original comment, btw. In case that wasn't clear. Jokes are fun.)

    • +1

It’s 1x11 so you have the same number of cogs front and rear and you technically have more combinations although probably not really much different ratios but this is way better than yours

  • +1

Tempting, but I'm looking for something with a larger torque capacitor and flange extension bearings.

    • Careful. Today’s modern push bike enthusiasts are as serious about their high-end groupsets as they are their Strava KOMs! No jokes allowed

      • You're right, I best be careful. I was banned for life from WP for making a light hearted joke about cyclists. Clearly they're an odd bunch.

  • Not a bad build tbh if you're looking to stick to a budget.

  • experts - reccomended frame/remaining parts for this?

    • +3

This build kit is for the 3T Strada, which was quite a unique road bike, and one of very few to have a single chainring. The gearing is not only quite high (ie designed for high speeds) but quite a limited range; designed for high speed racing or at least for flat areas. If you have any hills in your area you'd want to be very strong.

Saying that, they're quality components, and could be put on almost any modern road frame as nothing is proprietary. Just need a frame compatible with flat mount brakes. Seems the bottom bracket is BB386EVO which isn't particularly common, but not a big deal finding the compatible bottom bracket for your frame.

Other than a frameset there isn't anything you'd need.

    15% off today.

    • And extended for an extra day for today. I checked last night and to deliver to me in SA, $90 delivery. So under $2k delivered. Tempting but just wish it was 2x.

      • It wouldn't be that price if it was 2x
