poo brand
why?
I had a 65 inch qled , it lasted 4 years, not economical viable to replace the led panel , 2 years in the android tv board stopped working, I paid $2300.00 for the tcl , replaced with a LG, the quality is chalk and cheese , the remote is quality , the tcl was not, the overall LG software is far more advanced than tcl , LG was also 1k cheaper, software upgrades on the tcl were via emailing a link to a file to install via USB after a long wait on the phone LG is via OTA , I wouldn't buy a TCL again .
I got a cheap TCL P8M 50 4K was $500 back then, 4-5 years old now, and haven't had an issue. The software runs a bit slow but that's normal on cheap TVs
@johnilakoni: Same TV as well, still going strong.
HDMI ARC is a bit patchy but could be my JBL soundbar.
I use a nvidia shield pro on mine
When is LG cheaper than TCL of similar size?
It reads like a 4 year newer LG cost you $1k cheaper and better. Of course it's chalk and cheese.
Yeah why?
People love jumping on the "crap brand" bandwagon, but almost never seem to back it up.
in around 2013
I think that's your problem. You're judging a 2022 flagship model based on a 32" from almost 10 years ago!
@stuckster: guess op really donotknowwhy
Is this /s?
@alidli: I wish it were :(
Did you know TCL was the second-largest television manufacturer by market share in 2019?
You don't achieve that by pumping out rubbish.
You don't achieve that by pumping out rubbish.
I just assumed most people don't care about input latency on the remote or accurate color
"this company's lowest tier product a decade ago was horrible. therefore their current flagship products must also be horrible"
to be clear i'm not saying this is actually a decent product, but that line of reasoning just doesn't check out.
@xrailgun: Well speaking of low tier, even the $149 DSE branded CRT TV I bought around 2006 had a MUCH better picture, faster remote menu navigation, and much better sound than the $499 piece of shit of a TCL screen which replaced it. Hell even those Palsonic tvs were better than the TCL.
that line of reasoning just doesn't check out.
It works for me.
The $5 Sony headphones (arguably their lowest tier product) you can sometimes buy on Ebay still sound good. Happy to buy a Sony TV.
The random LG headphones which came with my LG V40 sound great! Happy to buy an LG TV as well.
No matter how low tier, I've never had a shitty product from Sony, LG, Panasonic, or any other brand name. Just TCL.
This person grudges.
@The Value: Also very biased. Very Trumpie
@Jamesx: Downvoted, reported, blocked, credit card details hacked!
Seems attractive, but the review is quite mixed.
Incredible deal
If you want to buy 8k tv, this year is the best ever to get one. Got HDMI2.1 so its full function 60hz. 2023 Euro standards will prevent good 8k TVs from being produced due to power consumption limits.
ESG is the biggest scam after covid
Climate scam says hi.
" requirements apply to “standard” video mode — TVs may have higher consumption in other modes that are set manually."
Most of the power consumption applies to direct lit local dimming tv. Yes dolby vision bright mode takes up more but we are talking about affects to the standard mode.
the question is then where to get 8k content?
I am sure there's a hub for this kind of content
Upscaled or natural?
I think they upscale content
WTF does one watch in 8K? Are there even proper demos available, let alone real content?
Especially for an 8k tv, it's a bit disappointing for the best wifi standard to be 802.11n (at least there's 5ghz, unlike my free Samsung TV from CommBank, 2.4ghz makes all the smart apps pretty painful)
$300 cashback from TCL
https://www.tcl.com/au/en/big-screen-gift-card-offer.html?ut…
This really needs to be put into the description, I reckon it's a steal with the $300 back. TCL make the best bang for the buck TVs imo
I have this TV. My comment from last year:
I bought this exact TV 3 weeks ago from Appliance Central for ~$3,000 ($3,270 + $300 cashback promo via redemption from TCL). It's a great TV that's fantastic value (…just not sure at a $4k price point).
The good:
- The Google TV OS is fantastic, you link your streaming services and it pulls recommendations from all services and serves it to you in the one dashboard. Plus no ads unlike Samsung (and I'm sure other brands too).
- The display is insanely good: colours pop and the display gets plenty bright….i have mine around 40% and that more than enough with direct sunlight coming into the room right next to the TV. Sure there's no 8K content outside of YouTube demo reels but the upscaling of 4K is great and the HDR is as good as any other TV. There are also some additional nice to haves like an IMAX Enhanced certification which should play nicely with the Marvel IMAX cuts dropping on Disney+. I believe there are very few TVs that have this certification.
- Sound quality is far better compared to other TVs thanks to the integrated soundbar and a proper sub-woofer at the back. I'd still invest in a decent soundbar if you can, but the sound quality is definitely adequate. It also gets offensively loud without too much distortion at higher volumes. 50% volume is my upper limit to what I'd consider comfortable.
- HDMI 2.1 and all the bells and whistles when it comes to I/O.
- The included camera is a nice little bonus too. The gestures controls are a bit gimmicky but being able to use Google Duo to chat to family and friends is great. The camera and mic quality itself is great: I'd put it roughly on par with Facebook Portal devices.
- Settings menus are nicely laid out for quick access and navigation in general is quite painless
- The TV doubles as a Google Assistant/Google Home as well using the soundbar
The bad:
- Low dimming zones. The TV has 240 dimming zones (160 on the 65" I believe), so blooming is noticeable. I'm coming from a 10 year old LCD TV so this doesn't really phase me. Blacks everywhere outside of the blooming areas are effectively OLED level blacks.
- The OS can be a bit buggy and tends to freeze every now and then. It's not crippling but annoying to have to deal with every now and then. I'm sure this can be fixed with future software/firmware updates
- It took me a little while to tinker with picture settings to get it just right. The preset modes took me 40-50% there but I needed to fine tune it.
- Not sure about other TVs this size, but this is a chunky boy.
- Took me a little while to find the HDMI CEC settings to enable volume control for my soundbar via my TV remote
Thanks for that. The C835 has 360 dimming zones, so it would be better to hold out for this at 75 because imo the 8K thing is not useful right now.
The 835 is not that much more at JB Hi Fi with the $200 gift card?
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tcl-c835-75-4k-full-array…
I think a good price for the 75 C835 is around 1800 given the sudden and extreme drop in prices. 2700 isn't a great deal IMO. You can get it from billy guatts for 2400 right now with the $200 rebate.
@Cirrus123: Good to know! I'll keep an eye out on Black Friday! Need a new TV to replace my 7yr old Samsung
@Zacsik: Get JB to price match billy guyetts. Then pay via discounted gift cards
Am I crazy thinking that running a 8K 75" screen at 4K would look the same as a 4K 75" screen? (But you have the option to go 8K native when you actually have the right content)
It'll be the same I guess. The upscaling engine really is quite good (at least compared to a 2020 Samsung QLED).
Not crazy at all. If you get a non-TCL 4K screen it would look even better than this ;)
I think the dimmable areas just dimmed to black, they are not switched off. So not really OLED black.
They are, but Mini LEDs means the diodes are packed a lot closer together the blacks are noticeably darker than QLED or LED LCD TV. It's not fully black but good enough for me (at the price point I bought it at) especially when the trade off is a super bright and vibrant display which is more beneficial as my TV is right next to a floor to ceiling window.
That is fine. But not effectively OLED blacks. A big stretch there.
Am impressed with the darkness in the C835 and C935 though
Does anyone have experience with the METZ OLEDs?
I saw one in store and IMO it was better than the top of the line Sony.
Just found out no 120hz VRR. Might try and find a C1.
8k normal or 4k oled
4k non-TCL ;)
I have the previous model, and I'm pretty satisfied with it. Its very bright, if that's what you need. Great blacks. No bleed on mine. Well implemented Mini LED easily beats QLED and anything except OLED, I believe. I saw a review where they said the non-HDR picture quality of these was actually better than an LG OLED. I understand Mini LED generally is better for gaming in some circumstances as well. TCL shipped more TVs globally in 2021 than any brand except Samsung, I believe.
I got the 65" of this X925 last year.
Paid approx $2450. Then got $200 cup carnival cashbak from TCL.
Sound bar is good.
Google TV software not too slow
Can install CinemaHd apk
Nice and bright in a bright lounge room.
Take out any USB keys before u turn on the TV helps with faster bootup. [Its an extra 20secs approx when I have a 32gb usb stick plugged in]
No complaints at $2250 end price.
No complaints or the image blows your mind?
2160P web rips looks damn amazing.
"Mind blasted. Blasted my mind"
I have this one, it’s awesome, much better than their 75x915 model.
The Android is much faster, amazing picture.
Absolutely nothing wrong TCL.
This is an absolute steal at this price.
I would buy TCL a million times over before I walked near a shitbox Hisense, that's for certain.
Oh, and people comparing it with Sony/LG/Samsung are clowns.
Are you saying not to compare it to those brands? Been looking at the TCL C835, but just a bit worried about support and quality control. Seems great performance wise, though.
835 is a 2022 release so a few more goodies minus the 8k . All in all in the next two years arguably C835 would be a better buy. I'd say wait for Black Friday ..sub 2000 would be a better price for either. The blacks on C825 and ongoing..C835/935 is pretty close to OLED standard..blooming is an issue with white subs on black backgrounds.. but a way better price to value proposition. Of course longetivity is an unknown quantity since 825 came out last year. Historically TCL has had a lot of complaints with quality which is why I am guessing so many negatives .. but thats how Hisense went from being a fav out here to a pariah ..which is again why I am guessing so many would rather buy Sony/LG/Samsung ..well IMHO C825 is a an excellent TV so is the current gen ..so if you get it for sub 2000 get it ..the next gen may not be the same :-D
Current gen being 835?
835/935/X925 pro
I'm in agreement. The 935 is supposed to have like 1000 zones, so the jump from last year to this year is significant. But again, I think the 835 is probably the best value you're going to get. I think it will look better than the 925 minus the 8K, which I certainly couldn't care less about at this point. In fact, I think it is a detractor as I'd rather not rely on upscaling algorithms for the quality of my image.
TCL quality is hit and miss. Own 3 various sizes all entry model. Latest one lasted 2 months minimal use. Replaced mother board after painful lengthy warranty claim. Another had audio lag which I can't adjust. Remotes are crap.
Gross weight with packaging 58.5kg :)
I have the 75” C825 which I got on a ridiculous deal when TCL stuffed up on inventory ($1400 I think). The one thing the TV seems to struggle with a lower bitrate content. Some of the older streaming movies don’t look good at all. A great example is lock stock and 2 smoking barrels. It’s a movie that was filmed to look grainy but is pretty much unwatchable on the TCL.
On the flip side, quality FHD or 4K content looks amazing, easily the best image from a TV or projector I’ve owned. I upgraded mine to Google TV but use it with a 4K Apple TV so can’t comment on (and don’t really care about) the OS, apps etc.
As long as you remember “rubbish in, rubbish out” you’ll be fine.
Wow. That's a steal. I'm hoping black friday will have some great deals.
Ain't no way. I'm new here but has 8K ever been this cheap at this size?
